98 told it straight copper is far superior to lead bullets they stay together, they almost always pass through both sides two holes are better than one the animal bleeds out faster, they crunch bones and still stay together and they are accurate and you get no lead in your meat, that was the big deal for me I got tired of poorly constructed bullets leaving lead in my steaks...

First and foremost I am a hunter I have been hunting in Idaho for almost 40 years we have both thick cover and wide open spaces with little to no cover I settled on the Barnes bullets back in 1990or around that time I have shot them mostly in 7mm STW but the last 5 years I have shot them in my LR308 16 inch barrel I shoot the TTSX168 for everything! I have killed 5 elk and numerous deer with them they are like a light switch you plug one in a elk the lights go out and they shoot for me sub 1 inch at 100 and I have killed with them over 400 if you hunt ground hogs then you must be back east that load will do anything you want in the USA. good luck and that is a nice looking rifle

I have a PMR 30 it goes everywhere I go in the woods hunting fishing snowmobiling along with a 300 BLK pistol weighs nothing 11 oz shoots forever 30 rds great little pistol

I like a two stage trigger for hunting I like the fact you can ease the gun up while you are waiting for the shot having that wall at the end of the first stage is a great way to settle in before breaking the shot especially if their is some distance involved...also there is not much kick to a 308 but their is a lot of Boom at the business end and a can makes life much more enjoyable I can tell you from experience my 68 year old worn out ears love not ringing and I have full blown tinnitus so it is a must for me as I shoot a lot... so having ear protection is a must for range shooting if you do not own a can I like the AAC 7.62 SDN-6 I was where you are now when I came to this site these are the best of the best and they speak from experience listen to them you will learn some good info.... and a laugh or three...BUT do not volunteer for anything!!!!!!.....lol

I agree with all that is said above 16 inches is all you need for a hunting gun and ethical shots and My cutoff is about 500 to 6oo yards I shoot my creedmore way further at steel but not at animals but the 308 loaded with not good bullets but great bullets like Barnes TTSX simple pole axes elk at 400 and I am sure it would at 500 as well I have just not shot one with 308 at that distance I have made longer kills with 7mmSTW but that is another beast all together weight is the key for a hunting gun a range gun or steel gun can weigh whatever you want but when you lug that Bitch all day you want every OZ. off of her carcass that you can go 16.....

with scope loaded mag and bipod you are talking 15 + lbs that barrel is your biggest negative you do not need more than 16 inches to hunt and shoot to 500 yards which I feel is about as far as a ethical shot should be no matter how good you are ....get a pencil barrel for hunting hell you will not fire more than 3 or 4 rds anyway....get a micro gas block a good 3 to 9 scope or 2 to 7 a 5 rd mag and I carry my suppressor on my belt and add it as needed when hunting shoot I68 Barnes TTSX and you can kill anything in North America and the gun will weigh about 8 and 1/2 Pic 1 358 yards Pic 2 40 yards pic 3 376 yards pic 4 right at 400 yards This Bitch gets it done nothing fancy but she is accurate and reliable

Now you are thinking I can tell you from first hand experience that every ounce you can shave off DO IT! I have been packing one of these for over 5 years now in elk country and every ounce helps I have been looking for another caliber to build and I think it will be 6.5 PRC and I am going to start with a DPMS gen 2 they are the lightest and I am going to shave off every grain I can.... BTW I hunt with a suppressor you should look into it it will solve all of your muzzle brake issues and it is a joy to shoot....
-
It is only money and any money that allows you to get Elk and Deer is money well spent, you are going to need a 308 and a 6.5 creedmoor a couple of really good triggers and scopes and a Acc 7.62SDN-6 to go on them and then a Gator forend and well I will think of more later ... think Light then shave every living OZ. you can you will smile later.. then you will be doing the happy dance...

For 25 years I carried a 45 ACP at first it was a Sig p220 then for the last 10 a 1911 Wilson combat holster and mags, now i carry a sig P320 /M17 with thumb safety pretty much feels like a 1911 but lighter in the 3 oclock postion, when summer gets here I will drop the works into a compact frame, I use a IWB clinger kydex leather combo...again 2 mags wolf hunting I carry a FNH 45 tactical with a Trijicon RMR on the front of my Day pack when I am on the snowmobile... P.S. the ONLY reason I switched to 9mm I can buy 1000 rds for 180 buck 45 over 400 I like to shoot to stay in practice.

The world has gone mad...people are disconnected, people do not live in reality anymore, there are very few of us left that can still see the world the way it is....... If all the beasts were gone, men would die from great loneliness of spirit, since whatever happens to the beasts also happens to the man. All things are connected. Whatever befalls the earth befalls the sons of the earth. Chief Seattle, 1855
