  1. Man find a nice untended mountain top in Arizona, and go carve these rules in stone. And then get a make over to look like Charlton Heston as Moses. I guarantee you would make millions on the tourist draw, more if you also build a gun range next to it. Got a kick out of reading these.
  2. 150 feet down.
  3. Oh yeah!
  4. Good one Hemi. Good one. Were the strategically placed vines on the saddlebags?
  5. And Right now I am getting hungry for something and it ain't potato chips!
  6. It is gonna boil down to what you want to spend. Any target models will probably be more picky on ammo. If you wouldn't mind proprietary magazines which I think you would, CDNN has incredible deals on Armalite "B" model rifles right now. The only 308 AR's I own are Armalites so I can't comment on the others. I handled the DPMS but liked the Armalite better, but that was before the new light weight DPMS model, which would be tempting. Set your budget and see what fits from the advice above.
  7. I wouldn't write off the Armalite. First, their A models which use the P Mags are becoming their standard of manufacture. Second, their customer service is excellent. Third they have spent a lot of time and effort refining their design. If you are looking for six hundred yard accuracy, you will be talking 1 to 1.5 MOA , which the standard AR10 A4 delivers with the 20 inch barrel, while still not being a heavy weight.Even their standard barrel is double lapped. Also you can get their National Match trigger, if you don't want to mess with an aftermarket like the Gesseile (mispelled that). Which you will want for consistent 600 yard accuracy. Armalite is certainly not being phased out, My advice: find a way to shoot a DPMS, Armalite, and a KAC and whatever else you think might fill the bill. If you can find a firearms acadamy that will let you run a live fire action course with all three, do it. It would be money well spent. Until then it is difficult to tell what would be best for you in terms of human engineering, carry and balance. Good luck.
  8. Wow! It is not only the AR10T. They have a ton of Armalite rifles at great prices. Never see these again.
  9. Update: My son is back from college and decided to snowshoe along a local river about 3 miles from the house. An hour upstream he came across a fresh kill. A doe was about 3/4 eaten with a lot of tracks around , fresh since yesterdays snowfall. As he didn't have a firearm with, he got out of there.
  10. In Wisc. You can only trap one a year, but after reading Idaho Fish and Games report I understand why they are on a crash program to reduce the Wolf population. Any chance they will provide financial assistance to bring the population down? I checked with Jim and he said to start small and set up in an area that shows consistent sign. He went to a farmer who had had some livestock killed, and the guy gave him carte blanche for all his property. I don't know trapper etiquette in Idaho, but if the wolves are feeding off any regular trappers kill and ruining the pelts, he might not mind sharing some space for your traps.
  11. Suggestion: if it is legal in Idaho, trap them. A friend of mine does it here, and it is a lot more effective and they actually trap pretty easy. Do the right time of the year and you will have some nice skins.
  12. It has been verified by DNA testing. I think they have even isolated it down to where it happened by DNA signatures of The animals. Your right, a pack of wolves will kill any coyotes they run across, which has selected out for vey smart coyotes. But if you have ever seen a dog in heat? They are not too picky about partners. Any port in a storm, so to speak. Up here there are reports every few years of someone being bitten by their "domesticated" coyote/dog or Wolf/dog mix they have had for years. Dogs have an aplastic gene, unlike cats, which means different species can interbreed quite easy. A female wolf that goes off on her own, like recently happened on Isle Royale, will search for a mate to start a new pack. She was shot by a pellet gun, which nicked her heart and killed her, but she had traveled 28 miles over the ice to the mainland after the Alpha female of the pack on Isle Royale had driven her away, and nearly killed her. What the wildlife biologists like to forget, even though they know better, is that any newly introduced species population curve is like a pendulum. It starts low, expands exponentially to overpopulation, and declines a bit after they have exhausted food resources, due to starvation and disease. Sounds like that is where they are in Idaho, is still expanding fast. Rather than meddle with nature, they should leave alone and let nature fill any voids. It always does. And the system tends to be more stable that way. They have basically introduced an invasive species.
  13. A friend was out with his dogs when a coyote went after their small beagle(at night). A 22 WM solved that issue with that coyote permanently.
  14. I need to drop 40 pounds minimum, but I also am more active than most 65 year olds. It sounds strange, but I think I will need to cut back a little on exercise and go on a strict diet so I lose both fat and some muscle mass. I have too much of both.
  15. My family and I have seen three cougars in the last ten years. They are like a needle in a haystack. If you see one, you know there are a lot more.
  16. Blondie locks, Oh Yeah!!!
  17. Shepp, you can do more with that size boat than any other. I was out at Isle Royale years ago, 20 miles from the mainland, and there was a 14 footer with three guys on it. I wouldn't recommend it on Superior, but it can be done. Crestliners are nice, used to have a 17'. Now I run a 20' Lund Alaskan with a 115 hp Mercury Outboard, with full canvas for the rainy days. Use it for the big and small lakes. On boat number 6 right now.
  18. I think we are starting to see some evolutionary changes in both wolf and coyote behavior in this area. I know that they have found that the recent migration of coyotes eastward from Michigan Wisconsin and Minnesota into the Eastern seaboard states is actually a Coyote/Wolf hybrid that is quite a bit larger than western coyotes, and shares behavior characteristics of both wolves and coyotes. They are larger, less afraid of humans, and preying on domestic animals as well as wild ones. Coyotes have been traditionally considered smarter and more adaptable than wolves to living in populated areas, but that seems to be changing. Combine the smarts of the coyote with the physical tools of a timber wolf, and you are changing the rules of the game entirely. When I see wolves around here, sometimes they are wary and take off, sometimes they just look at me and go around their business. The only time I see them lately is from a car, so I don't know what their response would be if I was on foot. Don't really want to find out, unless I have my AR or my 357 with me.
  19. Got my carpal tunnel fixed up last year in both hands as well. Too many hours on the chain saw the Doc said. A lot better now, but after a bit of hard work my palms start to hurt. Still have some numbness from neck arthritis, but it's tolerable, and the weight lifting seems to help it. Just spent the last hour digging out two days of wood for the boiler ( about 400 pounds) to get ready for the 15 inches of snow we are supposed to get today and tomorrow. When you heat with wood you are going to get a lot of exercise, especially in the North Woods. As far as back surgery, always get a second opinion, and do as a last resort. It is among the least predictable of all surgeries as far as beneficial outcome. My Docs have always talked me out of it despite having three bulged discs, and they have been right. If you have residual nerve damage from a back injury, then consider it. If no nerve damage, I wouldn't.
  20. I want to grow my own food but I can't find any bacon seeds.
  21. 6'1" 250 lbs. Doc said if I took my gut away, I would be in better shape than any other 65 year old he knows. Lift weights and or haul 400 pounds of wood every day. Do either a 3 mile walk or an hour elliptical four times a week. Last I checked my biceps were 19". My chest is down to 50". Trouble is I like to cook and I am good at it. Have pretty much removed processed food from my diet. I feel good, just wish I could drop 40 more pounds. Damn waist won't go smaller than 40".
  22. My all time favorite SI swim suit model. How dare you? i thought I was the only one!
  23. Elle MacPherson turns 50 today. Life is, indeed, not fair.
  24. Sisco

    Hog Laker

Wasn't mine. My biggest was 26 pounds.
  25. Sisco

    Hog Laker

Thing was over 40 pounds. Caught in Ontario on the Minnesota border this winter. Unfortunately it was confiscated over a misunderstanding on the regulations, So no world line record.
