Great point that could save a lot of lives. When covered with snow those little shelters at the base of evergreens also retain heat very well. Ask any one who has ever used FLIR in that environment. Very tough to spot a heat signature if someone is holed up underneath one. Also if a long term survival situation, can ward off scurvy by boiling some of those spruce boughs in water and drinking the tea. The remains of the leader of the MacKenzie expedition, most of who died of scurvy, was found with his back against a black spruce. If he had known, salvation was right there.

Unfortunately my wife does not like guns and will have nothing to do with them. I have tried for 30+ years to get her to try shooting, and she absolutely refuses to. But she doesn't raise a ruckus about my shooting. It is something I would like to share with her, but it isn't gonna happen. She has so many other positive traits, I am not going to let that get in our way. She comes from a family with a strong hunting tradition, so it is a bit of a surprise.

I have shot a Colt AR15 National Match HBAR since 1993. Not once in over 3,000 rounds have I even had a jam. Now Colt might have declined since then, I couldn't say, but based on my experience with that rifle, I would have to see considerable proof that they have problems, before I would bad mouth them. LWRC I believe just got a big contract to supply 6.8 mm AR' type weapons to Saudi Arabia. It is the biggest foreign contract of its kind ever. That makes them very attractive to buy out. Also, this might be the start of a type standardization of a piston system in AR type rifles. If Colt adopts LWRC's system in widespread usage, It may eventually become an industry standard. Then you could build piston type AR's like you build DI AR's, mix and match.
