  1. By the way, with a diet of fish and roadkill, when an Eagle decides to poop on your truck, you need an industrial strength car wash.
  2. It's 40 degrees up on Lake Superior today and sunny. Like every Febuary, about the 15 of the month, the Eagles who have a nest about 200 feet from our house start breaking off branches and fixing up their nest for mating season. You will be outside and hear CRACK! And an eagle flies over your head with a six foot tree branch! Tried to get a picture today, but their vision is just too good. They see me from literally a mile away and circle around.

    Ice fishing ?

Superior where I live has strong currents. Shepp everything you and Sharkey said are true in spades. My friend was an experienced guide and just made a mistake one day that was compounded by other small mistakes. And yes, that is a Laker. Tom would be the guy to go out with if you ever want to try it up here. Jim the guy who went through was a friend/partner of his.
  4. Second unforgiven on that. The can on the end brings it from good looking to centerfold status.

    Ice fishing ?

Nice job Shepp. I quit going out last year after a fellow I know went through the ice and drowned. I am getting the itch again though. The link below is a couple of his friends who are still guiding. Take a look, that is what we catch around here on Superior. http://www.beyondthecatch.com/hard-water/ This is one Tom posted in the local paper the other day.
  6. Welcome from Wisconsin CK.

    Ice Caves

Last ice cave post. Here is NBC 's nightly news film clip on them. Had to cancel, link did not work.
  8. My wife had a career designing those types of systems for the medical industry. She was on the national committee that originally standardized barcodes. She has tons of horror stories of companies who got in over their heads.
  9. Welcome from the land of cheese and ice.

    Ice Caves

    Glad you like em guys.
  11. Not to totally move this thread off topic, but this is a picture of my invention for a combination pistol case and shooting rest. I am taking orders. Also useful if your range has no facilities.
  12. I suppose you will charge a premium for the "Mark 2 Mod 6 all weather waxed cardboard rifle stand"?
  13. Those grips are something. Nice can.

    Heinlein

I read that one. Pretty amazing." In "the moon is a harsh mistress" He predicted Space borne mass driver kinetic energy weapons. Makes me think we better revisit the moon when the Chinese do.
  15. Needs are possible mount for an ACog or Trujicon also possible night vision down the road. Plus a bipod. Like the thought of one that has a partial hand guard underneath instead of straight rail.
  16. Yep he's a horned owl. We also get the Artic grays and the snow owls up here when the lemming population crashes by the arctic circle. But more horned owls than anything. He gets bigger he will take out feral cats as well.
  17. Will keep the mice and squirrels under control.

    Heinlein

He wrote Starship Troopers in the 1950's, when the technology to do it wasn't even on the horizon. Now it is close to becoming reality. Amazing foresight.

    Heinlein

Heinlein gave me the bug for science fiction. He could use it to make commentary on our society that no one else was making back then. And he had one overriding theme. If you value freedom, you need to be tough, and stand up for it.

    Ice Caves

You might have seen the ice caves of Lake Superior on National TV lately. They are not far from where I live. They form every year, but only 1 in 15 years has safe enough ice to walk out an see them. Attached are a couple of pictures I took the other day.
  24. That's similar to the recipe for Eelpout. Clean and butterfly it and stake it to a board. Lean the board up in front of a roaring fire. When the fish is cooked, throw it away and eat the board. Funny thing, Eelpout is a freshwater cod, and actually is quite good. It just looks kind of snakey and slimey. Which is how they got their nickname "Lawyers". With apologies to any members who are also a member of the Bar.
  25. I am starting to do research on railed free floating handguards for the AR10 A4 flat top rifle. Any thoughts, experiences and preferences?
