I have a wrench that I'll let you borrow. You'd be surprised at how little force you need with it anyways. Get all your parts together first and PM me when you're ready.

I came across this video recently and thought it could potentially be helpful to many that don't want the circumsized 10 rounders for PMags but need the 10 round cap limit. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=PMHNa70NcdU&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DPMHNa70NcdU# This place is one of the sites mentioned in the video: http://www.sacramentoblackrifle.com/products/magblocks-pmag-10-30-magazine-block Sorry for not posting the video instead of the link. I need to brush up on my youtube knowledge. I'm sure a member can help out with that.

R, maybe you can give him some lessons on how buying all this stuff is done... I enjoy hearing from you, you make me feel a little less compulsive lol.

You came to the right place, welcome. They're like candy, you can't stop now....you'll need more than one if the cutoff is October. Entry level or not, you'll get a lot of enjoyment out of it. There are so many options for upgrading so there should be no rush on the little things. Have fun shooting.

Screw Zero Hour Arms, that business is a ripoff. They wanted something like $95 to pin my brake. I found someone that did a top notch job for less than half that. They weren't that helpful answering a few questions over the phone either. A mouse may not be able to squeeze a fart into C&F but they're helpful and won't hassle you about BS. If they can bring it into the state then they will. The two owners are little strange but most gun store owners are a bit odd near us anyways. As far as out-of-state transfers go, that's just plain lazy. Apparently Zero Hour doesn't know its own state laws and doesn't like money.

It's always very emotional to think about those sacrifices that were made by so many and are continued to be made all around the world.

Well, sounds like a plan. I already know you have good taste by going to C&F. It's a closet of a gun store but I use them too. Great guys that go the extra mile to bring ammo to the Southeast, when no one else has any.

It's a nice gun. The shield come out a matter of weeks after I bought my M&P 9 compact.

The good old days. Well, maybe not good but it was worth it.

I would have bought an AR-15 one awhile ago if it weren't for the buttstock portion. I'm just not a fan of the look of it. You'd think the companies that make them would have more than just a few styles.

Holy sh!t. Can we clone her?

Great video. I've been trained from the beginning of my career with the 21 ft rule but knife wielding attackers are no joke. Even with that distance, a person would be lucky to get a kill shot in to drop a determined attacker in time.

Just..., your link was broken so I'm not sure what Brownells has it listed as. It's not a deluxe which should be the shelf grip. Mine has the spacer and you need a spacer for many of the grips today because of the larger receiver size for the 308. I've seen it listed under 3 different names. The palm shelf is more a precision rifle grip for mostly stationary shooting. At least that's the only reason that I would use a grip wih a palm shelf for. Good luck with your selection.

The below pics are of the Ergo Tactical I have on my AR-308. Keep in mind that the flash washed out the black look in the second one and that's why it's gray. As you can see, it will fill out most larger hands. The look grows on you quickly. It's very nice but I enjoy giving other products a chance as well. I will likely have a Magpul MIAD and a Mako grip on my next two. Hogue is a classic grip. Anyone that likes Hogue will almost certainly enjoy an Ergo grip.

Robo has a nice recommendation with the Wilson product. KAC needs no introduction...also very nice. I dug up a pic of what I was referring to with the Precision and the full length top rail, which would really strengthen the upper...I believe it's an AR-15 but you get the point.
-
I'm not too sure what your looking for beyond the recommendations. There are single rail on top designs, quad, ultra light tube style, etc. You said you like the mono design and precision reflex can be built to meet that type of rail and tricked out for a number of variations...very nice products. Keep in mind that you can slap a rail attachment on this to run the length of the receiver and forearm. http://www.precisionreflex.com/Detail.aspx?PROD=186640&CAT=4820 ...or you can get on this email list below for Rainier and just buy the mono from Mega. They will restock but you'll likely wait months or longer since they are highly sought after. http://www.rainierarms.com/?page=shop/detail&product_id=3477

I'm all about the sleek look. I went with the Troy TRX http://troyind.com/%20/anew-products/troy-battlerail-trx-308-13-8

Welcome, Haystack. The forward assist was also an issue for me when I first began looking for a receiver group for an AR-308. One brand that caught my eye over and over again was the Mega MATEN. This is ultimately what I built off of and haven't been let down. The billet design and reputation sold me. However, the forward assist provides a few advantages that most will not need. The assist is (IMO) primarily used to properly lock the bolt completely forward when the environment might have led to a dirty rifle that could jam or the need to ride the bolt forward slowly and lock it into place. Hitting the bolt catch, as we all know, is loud and doing this when silence is key could be a problem. I'm sure a few of our more knowledgeable members can add to this. A gunsmith I trust also added that, with the .308, the ammo quality and receiver machining has advanced so much that the forward assist is not as necessary as it used to be. This is a bit simply stated but it has its merits. Personally, I would never go to war with an AR that didn't have a forward assist. Key term: war. I doubt many of us need it for that purpose so I would tell you not to worry. Your rifle will largely be a bench/target rifle. You mentioned you do take down hogs and the forward assist would still be unnecessary for this. Well....as long as your not too close to your target. I say go for it. I still reach for my imaginary forward assist on my Mega out of habit though.

Always a boost to the confidence level lol. I really enjoy the Ergo grip because of it's overall size and it helps me maintain a great hold on my AR. It's the most comfortable grip I've ever used. I just bought a Magpul MIAD so I'm looking forward to shooting with that as well...also a very nice grip.

Never seen it before but now I love it!
