First of all I would like to thank Springfield Armory for making a great little pistol and also thank and blame 98Z for his support of my recent purchase(s). So I walk into the local gun store on my day off and started contemplating a back up gun / summer carry gun. For those of you who don't know I love 1911's period. I had shot a 3 inch officers model in a specific brand that I won't mention to avoid hurt feelings and or brand bashing. I wasn't crazy about it mainly due to the feeding problems and lack of reliability. I carry a Springfield Champion Operator with an aluminum frame as an off duty gun and I have its big brother the full rail / dust cover (FBI/HRT) TRP Operator with a Harris rear sight. So with this in mind I had seen and held a XDS . 45 and liked but cant find one.I also read up on 98Z's and a few others that have them. So I picked up a M&P Shield in .40 and I walked into the back receiving area / store room area with the shield. I asked if by any chance if they has an XDS in any caliber that I could compare the two against. On eof my buds said yea this is a transfer so it cant go past here but you can handle both of them. I really liked the way the XDS felt in my hands vs. the Shield. Nothing wrong with the Shield just in my hands it didn't fit correct regardless of the size of the interchangeable back strap / grip. So after comparing the two I walked back out, put the Shield away and was about to order the XDS .45. So my bud comes out of the back and said hey, that XDS was a used gun that came in for a trade in or consignment and its for sale. I looked it over and it had maybe 100 rounds through it and had the barrel / hood wear that would support it. The rest of the weapon was flawless full case paperwork ect. So at a price of $425.00 <lmao> I bought it, cleaned it and shot it. At 10 yds I had no problem keeping a box of 50 in the 10 ring on a blue man qual target. Good enough for govmt. work lol. The only thing I noticed was as a right hand shooter I needed to keep my thumb in the grove of the frame. That gun to me being 6'5'' and 245 lbs had very manageable recoil for such a small frame. I even located an extended 7 rnd mag with the polymer grip extension. So now that I have my summer carry gun / back up gun I need to find a way to attach it to my vest carrier. My P.D. allows us to use the external vest carries that look like your uniform shirt. Any suggestions fellas?

I gotta show this one at work <lmao>

Interesting, I wonder if the Navy Marine Corp. Leauge can track it. I have a Marine recruiting office in my area. Ill stop by and ask. His name and DOB and rank are on there I would hope it isn't that hard to find.

Because gun control works so well.

I would still stick with a 1:10 / 1:11 twist. If I remember correctly say on a 1:10 every 10 inches the bullet and made 1 full 360 degree rotation so on a 20" rotation the bullets has made 2 complete rotations. The 24" inch will be heavy but will give you good accuracy with match grade ammo and give you a little bit extra velocity. Just remember that too long of a barrel can also give you excessive barrel whip depending on the barrel contour......

ya know I am really looking into that Springfield XDS in .45 acp...... Its all Tom's fault just saying.......

I carry a Glock 21 with 3 13 round mags on duty. This story was the first I have ever read where a .45 didn't knock the guys dic in the dirt. Makes me think very seriously about carrying a back up. We wear the external uniform Kevlar carriers. They are so comfortable and I should be able to have room to sneak one in there.......

Look into Lilja barrels also

Vortex Razor vs Bushnell vs SWFA SS
Zebra644 replied to Gregrachelle's topic in Optics & Mounts, BUIS,Sights
Yep the SWFA Super Sniper HD's are very nice and also FFP. You will have a difficult time matching a FFP scope with that kind of glass clarity and quality at that price point. SWFA will also take good care of you if for some unknown reason you have a problem. -
So maybe some of you old timers can help me on this one lol. I just so happened to come across a full box of Twin Cities Arsenal ball M1911 ammo lot number 18433. It was given to me and the box is imaculate however the steel cased ammo, not so much. I have done some research and I think its 1948 maybe? If this ammo box could talk I would love to know its year of manufacture. I dare not shoot it becasue, well its a full box and makes one heck of a conversation piece and two, the ammo looks horrible and I don't know how stable it is. Thought I would share.

308 Trigger suggestion
Zebra644 replied to Mr Mistoffelees's topic in DPMS Panther Arms LR-308 | Bushmaster 308
How do you like the SSA vs the SSA-E ? -
Have you tried a place like South West Ammo out of Texas? They are pretty reasonable and usually have it in stock.

Wilson combat dpms 308 rail

Which height are you referring ? I know that DPMS has 1 upper with a high top and no dust cover or forward assist. Those are the ones you usually see on the LR models with the heavy stainless barrel and circular free float tube. They also have another with the the forward assist ect and it set about 1/8 or so lower than the first one I mentioned. Troy makes the TX and the MRF that fit both receiver heights. -
LR308 upper w/sight problems

I have felt a few triggers that are like dragging a cinder block over asphalt. That was one of the first things to go and get replaced. -
The wife had to work, so I went to the range and shot my 1911 then I rode my Harley. After that I grilled some burgers for the wife so she would have dinner when she came home. I drank some Red Stag and coke zero lol. Then I said a little prayer in thanks for the great day I had because of other vets that weren't as lucky as me. Then I watched John Wayne movies The Green Beret's and The Flying Leathernecks. The wife and I are DINK's Dual Income (thank you Lord) No Kids. But if we did you better bet they'd be watching it with me and not that other crap on tv.

LOL yeah when you move to a better ammo I am sure those groups will tighten up for you

I use the Harris Swivel 6-9 notched bench model. I then changed the feet on the bi-pod to the interchangeable pod claws and pod feet from Phoenix tactical. http://phoenixtactical.com I tried the Atlas and Casey makes great stuff, but I like my Harris.

Magpul customer service not so great (RESOLVED)
Zebra644 replied to 392heminut's topic in General Discussion
Wow I wouldn't dig that either. I wonder if it has anything to do with them moving out of that poor misguided state and shutting various equipment down and in process of moving or others that cant or wont move with Magpul that will be loosing their jobs?
