Ya, the scope is pretty badass...and barely legal in Cali! That's not the biggest pineapple I've bagged, got a 36 point 1200 pounder late last year... ?

The Punisher (because of the logo on the lower), The Tank (because of all the accessories and how much the friggin' thing weighs), The Intimidator (because of the way it looks) in that order...always seem to end up putting some kind of nickname on them.

Agreed Blue, don't remember what I paid for my UBR but it wasn't full retail. I have a real problem paying full boat on anything, luckily I'm patient and find some pretty good deals by shopping around. I just picked up my PRS stock for my 308 build for $188 brand new saving about $70 over retail, now if I cold just find some mags... ??? Regards, Paul

Local Gun Shops That Stand Out - Good to Go
arcangel167 replied to imschur's topic in General Discussion
Got to give a shout out to my boys (and girl) at Nice Shot indoor range here in Redding. These guys hook me up all the time, sound advice, free swag and great service. If you're ever in the area and want to get your "full auto" on, stop by and let Jeff, Andy, Ryan, and Julie take care of you...you're the best! Paul -
What made you decide to move to the 308 AR/AR-10 Platform?

Hydraulic buffer for DPMS LR 308?
arcangel167 replied to gnatshooter's topic in DPMS Panther Arms LR-308 | Bushmaster 308
I run a hydraulic buffer on one of my AR15's (the one pictured in my avatar) from Enidine and have had no issues with it. I noticed the difference after installation, mostly that it shot smoother and got back on target quicker. I'll be running one on my 308 build and hope for the same results, but realize that the difference between a 223 round and 308 will definitely have an impact (no pun intended) on it's performance. Regards, Paul -
Thanks guys, I know you've answered my question, I hope Dinan got some good info too. Pretty certain I'm going to save my pennies for the NF... Regards, Paul

Dinan, I'm researching this too and will put my 2 cents in...So far I've looked at Millett, Vortex, NF, and Trijicon. I've physically been able to handle the Trijicon T22-2G, this is a great scope, 2.5-10x56 with nice glass and light weight. Even though I could get a smokin' deal on this scope ($850 vs $1056MSRP) I just felt something was missing...I would love to get the NF NXS 3.5-15x56 with the Velocity 1000 reticle. Price is a few hundred more then the Trijicon,($1449 and up) but I feel like you get alot more scope for the money. On the opposite end the Millett 6-25x56 LRS-1 is only about $479 but has alot of great features and would seem to be a great deal...so too the Vortex Viper 6.5-20x50PA with BDC reticle, it's an affordable scope ($459) with all the right stats and a great name behind it, but I'm reminded of the old adage "you get what you pay for". Not having had the chance to handle these scopes I'm not able to comment on the build quality, so don't misunderstand my previous comment. Millett and Vortex obviously make great scopes, I'm merely asking what separates these scopes from each other by so much monetarily when the numbers seem to favor the less expensive scopes? Glass? Quality of materials? Options? Hopefully the experienced members here can help us understand these questions and even answer a few for us... Regards, Paul

Nice job guys, let me know if you need someone for R & D! Regards, Paul

Hey guys, looked before I posted this and didn't see anybody else had mentioned it yet, Brownells has one 308 barrel in stock and several others available for pre-order. Looks like the only one they had in stock was the 20" medium contour 1-10 twist barrel. Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but I stumbled across it tonight and thought it might be of interest. Regards, Paul

Pappy don't know if you're interested but I know of some Black Rain Ordnance 5.56 barrels in 20" & 24". The 20's a heavy profile with straight fluting on it. Let me know if you're interested, Regards, Paul

Thanks guys, the top 2 are mine, the bottom one is my sons. He doesn't like all the bells & whistles I do so he kept his pretty simple. I on the other hand... :D Top one was my last build, it was the culmination of what I felt I wanted on an AR, it's a Spikes Tactical lower with a YHM complete upper 16" fluted barrel with a Diamond Specter length free float hand guard. Wilson Tactical trigger and a liberal sprinkling of Magpul parts. Weaver Kaspa scope, Kryptonyte green laser and YHM BUIS sites on GG&G 45 degree mounts. Middle one is more CQB oriented, LRB lower, DEL-TON upper and a bucket full of Magpul parts and accessories. Aimpoint PRO optic with a flip to side 7x magnifier from Primary Arms. Here's a pic of #2 with my "fake can" on it and my Eotech configuration. It'd be a toss up between #1 & #2 if I had to grab just one going out the door, let's hope I never have to make up my mind... Regards, Paul

Celebrated yesterday due to family having to work today, but it's the thought not the date that counts. Gave my Pop a shooting rest he's been eyeballing and helped him set it up last night...least I could do for the man that taught me how to shoot. I made out pretty good myself, mailman dropped off my Black Rain upper to go with my lower so I'm one step/part closer to completing my build! Happy Fathers Day guys! Regards, Paul

Shepp, Colby was pretty instrumental in getting the "drama" cut out of the show. I've been following him on twitter since the series started, he tweets live while the show is on, and after season 2/3 started the down hill slide for the show, alot of people were complaining about the show turning into another reality show disaster. He even took the time to respond to a couple of my tweets about giving up watching if something didn't change. Had it not been for his "heads up" about hanging in there because change was coming, I would have quit watching after season 3. He's a gun guy himself and has a big ranch in Texas called Texas Triggers where they have a lot of the Top Shot show challenges set up for guests of the ranch to try. His latest is a video of Ryan Cleckner hitting a 1000 yard shot standing up with the Barrett M107 you can see it on You Tube, just look up Texas Triggers 1000 yard shot. I tried to paste the link here... Oh, and Kelly is my pick too! Regards, Paul

Tracking Point long range system
arcangel167 replied to Goofball310's topic in Firearm Industry News and Gossip
This story popped back up on Yahoo today. Apparently the system runs from $22,500-$27,500 and works off of a system that "wires" the trigger to the scope so the weapon can only be fired when the target is locked into place. It apparently does all the calculations for the shooter (distance, wind measurement, gravity, etc.) and all you have to do is wait for the system to give you the green light to shoot. Seems like it would take the fun and skill out of it for the dedicated shooter... -
Thanks guys, been busy the last couple days so just now catching up. Bubba I get down that way regularly, I'm thinking we're going to have to set a date once I get my 308 completed and get all us "Norcal" guys or anyone else who wants to attend together for a shoot. I can't think of a better way to christen the big bore than with a day at the range with a bunch of other "enthusiasts" <thumbsup> Jon, thanks for the welcome. Hope to pass through your beautiful state on my way to Texas if/when I can arrange a trip to visit a friend of mine living outside of Fort Worth. BLKSheep, thanks, the Mosin was my first real attempt to "modify" (see cut/grind/drill) a firearm. Building AR's and bolting/changing out parts on my Glock and 870 has been fun, but the Mosin was a "well, can't go back once I do this" moment. I've built cars and motorcycles over the years from the ground up so it was only natural to want to put power tools to a gun. The Mosins are cheap and unless you're a dyed in the wool purist they're alot of fun to modernize & accurize. People think I'm crazy for spending any money on it at all when I could just go buy a Rem 700 and start shooting, but I've always been a "build it vs buy it" kind of guy. I get more enjoyment out of putting something together with my own hands then having someone else do it. Guess that's why this site appealed to me so much, seems like alot of people here are of the same mindset. Regards, Paul

DNP, I agree...on both counts. Give me a shout if you ever get up my way, plenty of places to shoot outdoors and a buddy owns an indoor range where we can fire full auto MP5's and other "toys". Regards, Paul

Thanks Robo, and I'm totally on board for a get together in the Sac area. Read several other posts today stating there's a nice range there somewhere in or around Sacramento, would like to get the toys out there and let them stretch their legs :)) I get down there regularly for business and my daughter lives there as well so doing a weekend would be easy. Thanks again for your help and I'll be sure to pack the 870 <thumbsup> Paul

All, I'd like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to the community here at 308AR.com. My name is Paul (arcangel167) and I'm new to the 308 caliber of AR's. A bit of background on me, born and raised in Santa Clara until the age of 16 when my folks decided to move to Corning California (can you say "culture shock") now reside in Redding California where I landed after highschool and never left. My Dad had all of us kids shooting since the time we could stand up and I've been an avid shooter/outdoor enthusiast all my life. Started building AR's about 3 years ago and haven't been able to kick the habit since. Have 3 AR's currently built on 5.56 platforms in various configurations (CQB, mid range, light weight) and am now venturing into the larger bore rifles in the hopes of reaching out to longer ranges, testing both my shooting abilities and bank account worthiness. I've either built or modified all of the firearms I own in one way or another and am looking forward to building a 308 to add to the family. Hope to gain some valuable insight and assistance here as I begin this new phase of my firearms adventures. Regards, Paul Current firearms owned: 3 AR's built on 5.56 platforms Customized 870 Customized Glock Model 22 Sporterized Mosin Nagant

LOL, definitely funny. I laugh only because I've witnessed these conversations taking place at my local range...I carry a .40 and had previously carried a .45 and have had to answer multiple "why" questions about my switch. I'll just point people to this video now when they ask! Regards, Paul

Hi Medic, I'm interested in this upper but have a few questions. Can you PM or email me? Regards, Paul
