  1. Friends, I thought I would finish this thread off the right way, with a list of what I ordered. Interestingly, some Forward Assist parts come from the LR 308 portion of the DPMS online store, and some come from the .223/5.56 section of their online store. I called DPMS on the phone to confirm that this is indeed correct and that these parts do indeed go together. I think you'll agree that I got a good deal from DPMS. 308-FTT-EA .308 A3 Receiver (Stripped) $169.95 308-UR-07 .308 Forward Assist Spring $1.75 UR-06 Forward Assist Pin $0.75 UR-08-RA Forward Assist (Round) $13.95 Taxes: $13.07 Shipping: free on orders over $50 TOTAL: $199.47 I did not get an ejection port cover, because most people on the 'net say it's either in the way, or breaks/bends easy, or both. DPMS offers a port cover for this receiver.
  2. Consider the phrase "DPMS pattern", and that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
  3. Awareness is good. Caught on cam: Clumsy robbers bump into each other, fire shots in lingerie store - KHOU 11 News - April 30, 2014 http://www.khou.com/news/local/HPD-releases-surveillance-video-of-suspects-firing-shots-inside-Houston-lingerie-store-257319261.html [excerpted] Police say two of the men had weapons. The suspect with the revolver apparently bumped into the suspect with the rifle, causing the rifle to discharge. “Which then spooked both the suspects,” Officer Brieden said. Both men began shooting, and police believe they thought they were being fired upon. Nearly a dozen rounds were discharged. In reality, all the gunfire was coming from them. No customers were inside at the time. Two workers hid and were not harmed.
  4. Obviously a stealth 'copter. I couldn't spot the gun ports or missile launchers at all.
  5. Reading the thread at would give you some good background on the upper.
  6. I went back and looked, yes, you're right. Funny thing though, the .308 and 5.56 uppers have the same part number.
  7. Even the Naval Yard shooting didn't get much play. A shotgun there, too. And a pistol lifted off a guard.
  8. You're right! My upper is not pictured in that pic -- the portion of the upper above the charging handle on my rifle measures 0.535". How'd you know that? Now, how do I know which version of the A3 I would get if I ordered the upper DPMS has here for only $125? Would that be the 'low A3' or the 'lower A3'? I'd be wanting to go as low as they get. If I ask DPMS I'll probably get the same response from them as I got earlier on a similar question: "You're over-thinking this."
  9. That link redirects to http://762ar.com/303_error.htm and gives me the error message "Forbidden action"
  10. This shoot-up is not getting much news coverage. Could it be because there's no 'assault' rifle involved?
  11. Friends, I'm on the brink of ordering a new low-profile upper for my DPMS LR-308 but before I do that, I'd like to make sure I really have the high-profile upper. Could one of you with a DPMS low-profile upper put a calipers on it briefly? Just release the pivot pin and measure from the bottom of the upper receiver to the top of the rail, and get back to me. Doing that measurement on my current upper -- accused of being high-profile -- gives me 2.375". Thanks!
  12. Every retail ammo guy I've spoken to about the ammo shortage says that the .22 disappears within a half hour of delivery. And these guys also all say they're getting way less .22 delivered than they got before the shortage hit. And when I ask these guys how the hoarders get to the .22 before delivery -- after all, something is cutting into the usual size of the deliveries -- these guys don't know. Something is reducing the amount of ammo available to retailers and their hoarders. It's been a while since I asked, but at the time, the same was true of 9mm. I'm starting to see 9mm on the shelf now and then, though still mostly not.

  14. The news on this continues, and the journalists don't seem to notice that a rifle is not a shotgun. Or maybe they figure that an assault rifle typically makes shotgun-type wounds. Who knows what thoughts fester in the squalid minds of libtard journalists? Father of FedEx shooter: ‘We’re dealing with our own loss’ - WSB Radio - April 29, 2014 http://www.wsbradio.com/news/news/crime-law/three-of-six-fedex-workplace-shooting-in-critical-/nfkXr/ “I looked to my left, I saw him standing there and the knife was on the ground,” Aiken said. “He dropped his knife. He had an assault rifle." "Two victims underwent surgery for life-threatening injuries at WellStar Kennestone Hospital. They are a 28-year-old man and 52-year-old woman, both with multiple close-range wounds that appeared to be from a shotgun"
  15. Nobody's caught the government buying .22lr ammo. Yet.
  16. Not only purchase the ammo, but also pay to have it destroyed.
  17. Awesome!
  18. Those photos helped. Unfortunately, I just can't get used to shooting with a rear aperture -- I grew up with a notched rear leaf. The sight I'm working with now comes with a notched rear leaf and I had to have a machinist cut a leaf for me with a smaller notch. AFAIK I have the only fully adjustable rear leaf on the market for an AR-type rifle, with a notch compatible with a longer sight radius, so to get that rear sight lower my only option is to get a different upper receiver. I have been unable to find a dovetail riser to work with the Lipski barrel band on the front.
  19. Coyotak Pictures has lots of hot babes, but makes a lot of really weird shots. http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=coyotak&qs=n&form=QBIR&pq=coyotak&sc=0-0&sp=-1&sk= Here's one that's a girl with a gun -- but really whacked: http://ppcdn.500px.org/44092814/1c53f88199d55cb9d511b4b28bd0fa90c2a78ac5/5.jpg
  20. Yeah, and then the government gets it, puts it in warehouses, and then destroys it instead of selling it as surplus. From that standpoint, the government's game is pretty obvious. http://www.stripes.com/report-pentagon-to-destroy-1b-in-ammunition-1.280372
  21. It's a darn shame those critters don't taste better. There would be a lot fewer of them. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_gLGOsirSkHc/TKEucDCtX_I/AAAAAAAANbs/9mGbavSqUMY/s1600/cooked+bacon.jpg
  22. Heavy thunderstorms + tornado warnings here in Iowa. Even so, it's better than winter IMHO.
