  1. Wash, "senior moment" LOL I'm getting a little taste of that myself as I hit 49 this year and I think it's pretty much downhill from here! Try sending EasyEJL a PM to see if he can give you an approximate lead time and if it's unacceptable see if he can help cancel the order.
  2. I'm not planning on buying the Aero BCG - I'm checking it out because I'm trying to why the forward assist on their ".308" upper doesn't appear like any other .308 upper that i've seen (that has a F/A provision) - it looks nearly identical to every AR15 upper that I've seen (once again, that has a F/A provision) and as pretty much everyone here knows, the DPMS type 308 bolt carrier doesn't have the serrations for the F/A to engage with they use a step down in the diameter to create a "ledge"for the F/A to work against. I've actually had a Shadow Ops BCG on order since the end of March, I'm hoping to see it around the end of August
  3. I've never been a fan of google and made it a point to avoid using their services since I found out about their rampant construction of massive datacenters many years ago to archive ALL search query's and details such as related I-P addresses - I know there's really no privacy on the internet but I don't like the idea of willingly feeding these guys info that they just turn around and profit from. Now, this censor B/S - screw em!
  4. Correct but, it does show the absence of the step down in diameter that the F/A engages with on all of the DPMS type .308 carriers I've seen.
  5. Hmmm, Just checked out the .308 BCG on Aero's website : http://aeroprecisionusa.com/spare-parts/aero-precision-complete-308-bolt-carrier-group.html Sure looks like an AR15/M16 type setup? Could this thing be for a 7.62 x 39 config? I don't see a step on the carrier like every other .308 carrier I've seen. I may have to call them to get this clarified. Update - They revised the webpage to show a standard DPMS type BCG but, it still won't match the F/A on their upper.
  6. Thanks, Seems the angle is more shallow and the F/A assembly looks like it is set back closer to the stock, like it's little brother? Compare this: http://si-defense.com/product/si-defense-308-upper/ to this: http://aeroprecisionusa.com/upper-receivers/m5-stripped-upper-receiver.html On the Aero Precision model, the F/A is much further from the ejection port/brass deflector and on the SI model it's incorporated into the brass deflector like several other brands are. I'm considering picking the M5 up and wanted to confirm that all the standard DPMS type stuff will work with it (even though I'll prolly never need the F/A)
  7. Anyone know what's up with the F/A on these uppers? They look like the type on a M16/AR15 that use a serrated bolt?
  8. Of Course!! These things are like potato chips!
  9. LOL, I already ordered and paid for a Shadow Ops BCG back at the end of March but, they have had some trouble keeping up with demand so, I decided to buy a "temporary" BCG to allow me to finish my build sooner - I was curious about what bolt material is a more popular choice and if any of the more experienced guys had any advice/suggestions on that subject. I'm leaning toward a keymod type handguard, perhaps the Midwest Industries or maybe the new Fortis, I do like the stuff that Ranier has for the AR15's if they were only available for the high profile DPMS I'd go for it
  10. Decided to play it safe and bought a standard DPMS phosphate BCG from midway - they have them on clearance for $159.?? They use a C158 bolt that should be fine to get things going until the shadow ops unit arrives, Now to decide on a handguard/rail
  11. OK, Thanks for confirming my suspicions, it's a combination of proper design, material type and quality, and proper heat treating - the last being critical to preventing a premature failure! I have some experience with exotic steel alloys, for example I use 300M (originally developed for landing gear on carrier based aircraft) for pivot pins on a large piece of mining equipment I manufacture and have found that for my application a hardness of 45-47 on the Rockwell "C" scale is optimum, if I go much higher the pins become too brittle and break, much lower and they will bend! So proper heat treat for the material and application" is key to preventing failure Also I've noticed that some "manufacturers" don't actually manufacture the parts themselves (becomes apparent when they indicate they are waiting for the next "batch" to come in) The ones that do may not be willing to divulge the specifics on their manufacturing process. What a can of worms! I am curious to know what you guys prefer and perhaps the reason for your choice? Thanks again!
  12. I have been partial to the Carpenter 158 material for bolts but, there are quite a few available in 9310 I know 9310 alloy steel is very strong (they make differential ring and pinion gears for professional class drag racing cars from it!) but on the M16/M4 the mil-spec is C158 - what is the preferred material for the .308 platform? any epic failure stories? Looks like I may have to find a temporary BCG since Shadow ops won't have mine out the door till at least late August.
  13. I've bought several cosmetic blem 5.56/.223 Nickel Boron Stripped Bolt Carriers from them lately - Great deal, nice quality! They were selling on ebay but, now they are selling directly from their website: http://www.rockymountaindefense.net/ They are a small manufacturer in montana and have impressed me so far with the quality/value of their offerings I've inquired as to if they will be getting into the .308 stuff - hopefully they will be interested
  14. Interesting, Looks like RRA might use proprietary dimensions on their components - they have notices all over their website: http://www.rockriverarms.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_id=379 You should make the call to find out about compatibility, besides the diameter, it's possible the tube length may be specific to their design Hope you get to try your new stock - looks like a good concept!
  15. Looks like they have .308 uppers back in stock! http://www.tacticalmachining.com/
  16. Awesome Company!! Got the phone call friday from Mr Barker to confirm compatibility with my upper, Yesterday the handle arrived! You guys were on it! This thing is BAD A$$!!
  17. These guys must be really backed up or ran into issues with their supplier? I'm still waiting on that BCG, it's now passed the 3 month point - I can get custom built $10,000. hydraulic pumps from Parker Hannifin in less time! This is the main thing holding me up on my build, hopefully I'll be able to get some rounds through it before summer is over!
  18. Damn, I knew I shouldn't have skipped that second page!
  19. Just ordered the .308 model this afternoon - smokin price, Thanks!
  20. Then there's this: http://www.surplusammo.com/aero-precision-ghost-gun-g15-stripped-ar15-lower-receiver/ Gotta love it!
  21. Thanks, forgot to mention, I received the July issue of American Rifleman today and it has it nice write up on the Ruger SR-762.
  22. I can answer that for you, The upper uses an Armalite AR 10 type barrel nut but, you can use either Armalite type Barrel, Gas tube, BCG, and Lower parts kit or the DPMS type Barrel, Gas tube, BCG, and I'm suspecting a DPMS type Lower parts kit. You just can't mix parts between the two sets of standards - either Armalite or DPMS. The mating of the upper and lower is cut like the Armalite units. Here is a link to one of His gunbroker listing it has lots of info/pics: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=412712313
  23. I've seen your listings on Gunbroker and by the time I had the extra $ they were no longer available - I'm somewhat interested, is anyone else? Perhaps a group buy could be put together! Thanks
  24. @pewpew.308, You should contact your friend and and get him involved over here, from the thread he has at CALGUNS it looks like he has been asking for suggestions for his new .308 upper and lower set - I think this would be a great forum to help debut his new design! http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=931750
