  1. At this point they are only proposed rules but, certain individuals such as kevin de leon have a major hard on to serialize/register 80% ers - this year is his second or third? attempt to regulate them - I remember last time Gov Brown Vetoed his bill and went on to explain that he felt requiring registration on homemade firearms wouldn't significantly affect gun related crimes
  2. Oh those knuckleheads in Sacramento came up with a bunch new proposals after the San Bernadino shootings to make things more difficult for gun owners here in california - here is a list of what's in the works: AB 1663 closes the “bullet button” loophole. This loophole enables a firearm owner to use a bullet or other pointed object to quickly detach and replace a weapon’s ammunition magazine, converting a rifle into a semi-automatic assault weapon. An individual can switch magazines on a gun with a bullet button within seconds. This bill would expand the classification of assault weapons to include all semi-automatic center fire rifles, which are capable of accepting detachable magazines. AB 1664 will prohibit the use of a “bullet button” or other tool that allows for easily changeable magazines on all military-style assault weapons. Guns equipped with a bullet button are functionally the same as illegal assault weapons, but they are sold legally in California. This kind of assault rifle was used in the San Bernardino mass shooting last month and a shooting at Los Angeles International Airport in 2013. AB 2510 eliminates uniformity for CCW permits, putting permit holders and law enforcement at greater risk. AB 2607 expands "gun violence restraining orders" so that your boss, coworker, or college professor can legally strip away your gun rights. SB 880 immediately bans and forces the registration of millions of magazine fed semi-automatic centerfire weapons in common use. SB 894 mandates lost and stolen reporting within five days and penalizes individuals for reports that are turned in even a day late. SB 1006 allows the University of California to conduct biased gun violence research. SB 1037 extends the statute of limitations on certain non-violent firearms related crimes, mostly having to do with paperwork. SB 1235 is a measure that we believe will eventually include mandatory ammo tracking and purchase permits. SB 1407 is De Leon's new version of the "Ghost Gun" ban. SB 1446 bans all "standard" capacity magazines that hold more than 10 rounds - no "grandfather" exceptions!! To say the least, we got a real mess on our hands out here!! - OP, have your buddy go through the attached "flowchart" to determine current california legality - it pretty well covers all the current requirements. flowchart.pdf
  3. @Mongoose333777 - Whereabouts in So Cal are you? I'm in the Santaclarita valley and work in Chatsworth and have all 3 gauges.
  4. On that note, they're about to release a rope gun conversion complete with a 4 hook grappler - pretty cool!
  5. Looks like it's back!!! but, I'm sure the idiots in Sacremento that run things here in Cali will find a reason to ban them like everything else that's either cool or practical https://www.gunsamerica.com/blog/can-cannons-triumphant-return/?utm_source=email&utm_medium=20160422_FridayDigest_26&utm_campaign=/blog/can-cannons-triumphant-return/
  6. Well, it was fun while it lasted, all 3 of my local wallyworlds have removed the tag that designates the spot on the shelf in the ammo case for the ZQI 7.62 x 51 (they haven't had the SS109 5.56 stuff since all the "green tip" ban threats) looks like it's over at wall mart - bummer
  7. $182.74 @ Lanbo's https://lanbosarmory.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=107&products_id=973
  8. I would go along with that if the U.S. headquarters for ZQI didn't have any available but, they show it as available for $11.20/box or $352/Case of 640 rounds - http://zqiammo.com/
  9. Anyone else noticing a shortage of this at wallyworld? The three stores near me haven't had any for 1 - 2 Months and the guys that work in sporting goods report that the distribution centers have no inventory - could the gravy train have come to an end?
  10. Yea, I miss the old layout - and 98! on another note, with the exception of Lucky Gunner the advertisers on the right side of the home page all seem to link to Brownells even Tactical Machining - I know that used to link directly to TM's website (obviously the Brownells & Sinclair should go to their respective pages) also Slashes Buffers, ATC, BAD and Hiperfire also links to Brownells - anyone know if this is intended to be that way?
  11. Got one on all AR's except my 9mm pistol - better to have and not need than need and not have!
  12. Good lookin set! Made by SI-Defense, Well respected name in the 308 AR game! http://falkordefense.com/shop/receivers/308-ambi-receiver-set/ http://falkordefense.com/shop/receivers/falkor-308-ambi-matched-set-with-forward-assist-black/
  13. As I mentioned elsewhere I got the BCG from my FFL Friend John's store ( http://www.vcdefense.com/ ) And it lines up perfectly with the F/A on the Matrix upper and Headspaced correctly with my new ARES 16" barrel, can't wait to get it out to the range to see how it behaves - I'll keep this thread updated as i progress - if anyone is interested in this BCG, give John a call or send him an email and he'll be glad to get you hooked up - the bolt that is currently provided is a "dual ejector" design I spoke with John about the possibility of having them available with a more conventional single ejector bolt and he said he would have to check with his supplier. I'll post a mini review on the performance of the "dual ejector" after I run some rounds through it and get it broken in.
  14. My shooting buddy put one of those AIM Surplus BCG's in his Matrix build along with a 16" Ares Armor (now American Weapons Components) Barrel The combo shoots well, Cycles smooth with no issues whatsoever, I have to say it went together surprisingly trouble free - even the forward assist worked properly (standard generic AR15 F/A) we did however install the F/A with a 2.5mm dia roll pin.
  15. SLR Rifleworks: http://slrrifleworks.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=66_107_113
  16. Sarco has these listed for $9.95 ea - like the ones SS posted pics of: http://www.e-sarcoinc.com/m14magpouch.aspx
  17. BCM Trigger arrived yesterday, looks nice - installed without a hitch, feels crisp, pull seems about the same as an OE type setup - hammer spring is pretty strong, hammer hit's hard enough that there shouldn't be any problems with mil surplus ammo - probably a good choice for a 7.62 x 39 AR (just may find it's eventual home in one!) For now it's in my 18" barreled 308 - I'm waiting on an inexpensive trigger scale to arrive, then I'll post some test results. http://www.natchezss.com/wheeler-trigger-pull-scale.html
  18. Just ordered one! Now to decide on the platform on which to test it? Stay Tuned
  19. Nice Work! Looks like you did a great job! Awesome little mill you picked up - looks like those guys aren't far from where I live, I'll have to pay them a visit and see their showroom!
  20. I hear ya, there's no "cheap" way to really do this - even "bottom of the barrel" parts are gonna cost several hundred $ to obtain unless someone he known donates an upper and other misc parts. If he cuts too many corners I'm afraid someone will likely get hurt firing this thing - if he hasn't already put some rounds through a 308AR he probably should so he will know what kind of forces his project will have to contain - the thought of a BCG, buffer and tube getting launched into ones shoulder sends a chill up my back.
  21. On the subject of the buffer tube, there is a spring and detent that retains the buffer/spring combo that is retained by the end of the buffer tube, I guess you could weld the tube in after installing the detent/spring - if you ever had a spring break (springs can break) you'd have to cut the buffer tube loose to repair it and then re-weld it - another option might be to recess a castle nut into the hole in the receiver that would otherwise be threaded and carefully weld it into place (this is where the finesse of a TIG welder would be a big advantage - either way alignment of the buffer tube is critical since the BCG has to be able to travel back into it without getting bound or hung up from mis-alignment - I think I'd stick with a factory made buffer tube FWIW
  22. The answers to questions #b & c are here: http://forum.308ar.com/topic/597-buffer-tube-buffer-and-buffer-spring/ To answer your first question, DPMS 308's normally use the same buffer tubes as AR15's - BUT, you can use the Armalite buffer system AS LONG AS you use ALL Armalite components - Buffer Tube, Buffer, and Spring - just don't mix parts from the two (Armalite & DPMS Type) or Carbine and Rifle length
  23. Interesting, I do a lot of metalworking/fabricating in my line of work, I noticed you referred to flux core MIG welding - seems that gas shielded would be a better choice? if it were me, I'd find access to a TIG welder for this project (before you ask, yes I own one, a Miller Synchrowave 250) That would give you much more control of the process to minimize warpage. I was also noticing that you have to drill the holes for the detents/springs that can be a little tricky unless you have a jig or are using a mill - just sayin One last detail that I saw on the website you linked, the mounting for the buffer tube is unthreaded and they mention something about welding a castle nut to the rear of the receiver to attach the buffer tube - hmmmm I have seen the correct tap on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-3-16-16-High-Quality-Taper-Tap-Gunsmithing-Others-New/151075274968?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D33876%26meid%3D55dd864c7f9d4c9387c600d04e8d831f%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D281625392253 I know it's not exactly "cheap" but it really would be the correct way to do the buffer tube threads. One last thing, Wash really is a great guy, he's been doing the 308 stuff for quite some time, pretty mechanically inclined and contrary to what you might think can be very helpful with getting the bugs out of these builds and trust me, it's quite a challenge to make one of these builds work properly the first time out.
  24. I've got some of their stuff and it works great! With the upper block I turned a piece of Delrin to fit where the BCG go's to support the upper from crushing when torquing the barrel nut - here's a better link: http://www.plastixrevolution.net/collections/ar15-vise-blocks/products/308-upper-receiver-vise-block-ar10-sr25-lr308
  25. Great Article! Thanks for posting, I'm going to look into this book to improve my knowledge of reloading - Thanks Again!
