  1. Windham Weaponry. Been researching all day and it seems to be what I am looking for. Maybe a couple hundred $ more, But the reviews are way up there. So, saving my milk and egg money and picking up a few more cans along the side of the road.
  2. I bet Clinton scarfed them up!
  3. The offer button is not on this rifle. I called and he said it depended on who they received the rifle from. I guess some jobbers just jack their prices. Maybe later they will get a batch in at the lower price.
  4. I found this piece a very good read. Starts on page 20. http://fmgpublications.ipaperus.com/FMGPublications/GUNS/GUNS0315/
  5. OK, let me see. To me, the original is the best. Everything else is just a copy. OEM parts for your car is a pretty good example. But that's just me. At 65, I'm pretty set in my ways and don't figure I have enough time to reprogram myself. Being an old fart has it's limitations. I am choosing Armalite over Sig, Ruger and all the others because they were first, so that moves them to the top of my list. Again, that's just me. I own Remington, Winchester, Ruger Colt, Springfield and Weatherby rifles. All are shooters. Being a Gunners Mate in the NAVY, I learned how to accurize a weapon. I can pretty much make a rifle that comes out of the box printing 3-4" groups print under 1/2". The main reason for the Defender is money. I figure it is the best bang for my bucks. I might be wrong in my thinking, but that's just me. I have been fortunate in my life to have some very good jobs. I was building my nest egg in my later years. Then, at age 56, my world got put on it's ear. One day I could lift the front end of a Volkswagen and the next day I couldn't get out of my chair. Spent 5 weeks in the hospital before they found out I had liver failure. Agent Orange had finally hit me. The VA was absolutely no help, but I had good insurance. The first transplant was a failure. 6 months later I had my second transplant. But, my insurance dropped me and I was stuck owing about $250,000. I had to cash in all my stocks, bonds and savings, as well as mortaging my home, which was paid for. Now I live on SS Disability. That puts a pinch on my funds. But the wife and myself are happy. Speaking of my wife, the only constant in my life was that every time I woke up in the 8 months total I was in the hospital was she was always there right beside me. I will check into the target model, but I am really doing this for my grandchildren. They might not enjoy the same freedoms we have today. Sorry for the long post but maybe it gives some insight into why I am like I am. My dad always told me to buy the best and it will last a lifetime or buy the cheapest and buy 6 in your lifetime. And my dad was a smart man and my hero.
  6. So, after finding out I can't build an AR-10 on the cheap (I'm a former sniper so that makes me more than a little anal about accuracy), I found the Armalite Defender. Under $1000. Super cool. Checked Bud's and it was $903 last week. I'm thinking jump on it. Checked yesterday and it was $946. WTF? So, today I checked and it is $953! So now I am just pissed off. When I calm down (a couple or three days) I will continue my search. In the meantime, my trusty M1a will just get a workout. Look out steel targets and coyotes.
  7. Check your mags. They are what locks the bolt back.
  8. I had a '56 panhead on a '50 frame once. You could run over a dime and tell if it was heads or tails.
  9. I see a lot of barrel replacements in the future.
  10. Sounds to me like you need a heavier spring. But I am no expert on the AR-10.
  11. Oooooohhhhh!
  12. I've always heard it takes all kinds. I guess this kinda proves it.
  13. They still won't get it.
  14. Try not to laugh too hard! http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=cf4_1414026047
  15. Excellent article. I bought my wife a Flashbang holster. She says it is just not comfortable. So, I got her a concealed carry purse. I has a seperate zippered pocket for her pistol. She likes it but it does make me a little nervous. I don't want someone snatching her purse but she is very careful.
  16. The female is easy on the eyes. Wonder if she delivers?
  17. I was a sniper and he was in the National Guard. He said they only fired 10 rounds, probably just to see how many might be shell shocked from the noise! LOL So, I guess I will save my nickels and dimes. Maybe pick up some more cans along the road. I built my M1a and it is a under 1/2" shooter at 100 yards. He thinks his AR-10 will be better. I say no way.
  18. As I stated in an earlier post, my brother bought an Armalite from CDDN for just under $1,000. I was going to build one for much less just to show him up. After researching, I don't believe I can build a quality 308 platform rifle for much under, if any, than what he paid for his. I am a novice on the 308 platform, but was a Gunners Mate during the "police action" of Viet Nam, Republic of. I spent some time in the armory but most of my time was in the field, using the weapons. So, what is, in your best scientific and unabashed opinion, the best 308 platform? I am older and wiser now than I used to be. I used to give a poop, but I take a pill for that now.
  19. Good 'un!
  20. Get some Checkmate mags. Check with Greg Cote's site.
  21. Thanks! Had me worried there for a second. My brother just bought an Armalite and I need to build one that is just as good or better for half the cost. And I realize Armalite is the top dog in the pen.
  22. OK, what did I miss? I am thinking of going tomorrow and pick up an AP upper/lower set. Do I need to go elsewhere or is the AP good to go? Inquiring minds need to know!
