  1. General Dynamics raised the cyclic rate to make it appeal more to the military (I assume), but I read GD replaced the XM214 in their catalogue with the Iron Fist ADS in 2011, which Rafale and IMI are continuing development on as of last December
  2. I'd make sure how much it weighs first. I'm thinking about 6 1/2 to 7 oz would be a good place to start, and work up from there (for .308, anyways) I've got so much residual lead in my system, I'm sure a little more won't hurt lol I like the idea of using "waste" tungsten, I just wish I had a shop close by that'd let me "clean up a little". 98, did you shape the tungsten with a lathe, or did you just put it inside the existing buffer?
  3. Persistence is key lol
  4. Thanks, I get what you're saying. ANYWAYS, I'll let y'all know how it shoots :)
  5. It's a pretty good idea on paper, but for the cost, not to mention the price of the platform to put it on, 7.62 and up are much more effective in a broader range of situations. And unless you're shooting blanks like ol' Jessie was, the strongest man in the world couldn't handle the recoil of a man-portable version. I think the recoil on the 5.56 version was something like 500 lb/ft/sec or something
  6. I'll admit, I'm no expert, but I work so much I don't get much industry news anymore if it isn't something like the Ares Armor Raid. I do vaguely remember this rifle, but this is all I heard about it. Did NEMO ever sell it, or even test fire the thing? Edit: and yes, I DID just join this forum. Great place, helpful and knowledgeable folks
  7. I'm saying if I melt down some dense lead and fill a rifle length buffer to add mass, will I have any issues with function, carrier tilt, etc
  8. That sounds better, besides, I heard the M82A2 had all kinds of issues, anyways....
  9. Sorry 'bout the size, but you need one of these. Not sure who actually won the auction, though. Unless that was you....
  10. It's all good, bro, I'm just a "worst case scenario" kinda guy. Murphy's Law, right?
  11. What'd you name him?
  12. Seeing the price of some of their other guns, I don't think they're too worried about getting rid of this one. I will give them props, though, because it takes some skill to work that much Ti into a firearm that actually functions well. We won't know about that part until someone tests it out. I personally wanna see how well that Ti gas block and carrier work out....
  13. That'd be nice, if I had a mill/lathe to work with.... You know, I was thinking the same thing, but how would the buffer body hold up against molten lead? And would balancing be an issue?
  14. I've never had a whole lot of time to play with the idea, but before places like heavybuffers.com, how were you .308 AR guys adding mass to your buffers?
  15. http://aresarmor.com/store/Item/ar10_bcg_nickel_boron They've got 150 of them back in stock, and they're only $179.95. Be warned, though, the name is misleading, it IS A DPMS PATTERN BCG, NOT ARMALITE
  16. True, and hopefully it will stay that way. Business, that is, not everyone staying sold out. As the market flourishes, the platform advances.
  17. Not bad, I'll have to keep that in mind when I look for my next barrel. The only problem I have with buying a ready to order barrel (and this is nothing against any specific company) is you never know how long that barrel's been sitting on a shelf or in a crate somewhere. Now I know companies (the ones with any sense, anyways) use different methods of storage to prevent damage to the barrel, but the longer one sits, the more likely it is you'll have a slightly less accurate or even damaged barrel or bore. Plus you have to go with whatever happens to be available, which, granted, is usually a decent selection. When a company will make you a new barrel you're getting a brand new barrel, and a lot of times they'll make them to whatever specs you need. You usually have to wait forever, though. Pros and Cons
  18. Oh, I will. I'm just extremely impatient, so the next 6 weeks is going to feel like 6 years! But I've already got a "range" beside my house that goes out to roughly 1km, so I'll have more than a few variables to sort out before I can REALLY test it out...
  19. Just ordered my barrel yesterday. It's a BHW 20" 416R SS rifle length bbl (.936 gas block), 3 polygonal rifling 1x11 twist, threaded, no fluting, with a shot peened finish. I guess we'll see how it works out. In 6-12 weeks :(
  20. WHAT?!?!? Over here in southern Ga it's on basic cable!
  21. When does it come on? I always work so I miss all the good stuff.
  22. I guess if you just REALLY wanna burn up a barrel or two, or wanna turn an old pepsi machine into a colander XD
  23. 16" rifle length .308? I know where I'm going when I build my next upper....
  24. Really? I guess it makes sense seeing how they designed it after the AK47 thanks to Russia essentially cutting them off from their tech... So, yeah, there you go, bro
  25. That's a badass build, bro, bring her by the house when you get her finished up....
