  1. My son took his 8 point with one shot using a 168 grain Hornady AMax and dropped the animal in it's tracks. We couldn't eat the heart because it was blown to pieces at 240 yards. I had my doubts about using the AMax but no more.
  2. Just the opposite with me as I went from the Kimber Ultra Carry II that I carried for many years to the Delta Elite 10mm. I'm sticking with it.
  3. I never thought my little hijack of the thread about my Swartz device failure would start so many replies but it's brought a lot of information that I really enjoyed reading and learning from. My thanks and hats off to all who posted. I sure love the Delta Elite 10mm my best friend built on a Caspian/Foster lower as my daily carry gun. I carry it in remembrance of Randy who died 1 year 9 months ago and it functions perfectly.
  4. Whoops, I've been away for a while. The slide is a Colt Delta Elite on a Foster/Caspian lower. Randy built this gun several years ago and it still functions perfectly. It's my every day carry gun and whenever I've felt the need to put it and shoot it's functioned without a hitch. (shooting skunks, gophers and rattle snakes)
  5. Bingo, Why are there mil. spec AR-15s by hundreds of companies but I can't take the upper off my Windham AR.308 and put it on my Armalite AR-10T nor do the magazines from the Windham work in the Armalite or vice versa. Also dosen't Armalite have a different pattern AR-10 that won't fit the older guns like my 1998 AR-10T?
  6. Dittos I'm with you. They really blew it with the PBR and mixing shooting. I noticed that they were not proud enough of their add to allow comments.
  7. I went to college in Gunnison Colorado at Western State College. I learned to have a very healthy respect for the Crested Butte Hotshot just north of Gunnison. This was back in 1974 and they had a fire caused by Elk hunters south of Gunnison. A bunch of us college kids volunteered to help fight the fire when it got our of hand. Not to mention they said they were going to fly us in by chopper. It was an amazing experience and even though my father was a fireman at the Air Force Academy I learned a bunch and received a very healthy respect for the power of a topping out forest fire. The heat and roar of trees bursting into flames was shocking. I never worked so hard in my life to stay alive. You folks are in my prayers and please stay safe. Don't take chances with it. .
  8. My Delta Elite has a series 70 Forster lower therefore no Swarz safety.
  9. The wood laminate is mounted with a delta ring just like the original AR-10 or 15. But pardon I don't savy what you mean my Delta rail or engrave with logo? Pardon my ignorance.
  10. On that first link I noticed that there was a link to the Swartz firing pin safety Swartz firing pin safety mechanism (used in Kimber's pistols)and I wanted to bring up a story about my Kimber Ultra Carry II. I won my Kimber at a Friends of the NRA Banquet about 5 years ago and after shooting about 400 rounds through it, it became my everyday carry gun. About 2 years later I had the occasion to shoot a coon that was causing trouble at my house. I was heading out the front door about 10 PM and there was the problem coon that had been stealing dog food by taking the lid off the container we were storing it in on the front porch. I had Crimson Trace grips on it and a flash light in my pocket so I took up chase and he climbed a tree just on the south side of my house. I quickly spotted him with the flash light, put the red laser on him and pulled the trigger. I then heard the loudest click I've ever heard. The hammer fell on a factory round without setting it off. Upon taking the kimber apart when I had made sure it was not an ammo problem I discovered the Swartz firing pin safety was broken. I felt like a real dumb ass mainly because I had no idea how long I'd been carrying a disarmed pistol. I figure it must have broken at some point while I was putting the gun together and accidentally depressed the grip safety while reinstalling the slide. I called Kimber the next day and they promptly sent me a replacement part. I received it within two days and was pretty happy with their customer service. However upon further reflection I started wondering if that stamped out part could break again on me. So I took the replacement one set it on a industrial power hacksaw blade made out of tough high carbon steel and traced it out with a very small hardened steel awl. I then used my Foredom tool and several types of cutting wheels and diamond grinders to carve out an exact matching part. It took a while but after several tries I was able to get it fitted and working great. Now I know I've got a very hard tough part that is not going to brake at the first time I screw up putting the Kimber back together. Since then I've switched to a Colt Delta Elite 10mm that used to belong to my best friend that passed away 1.5 years ago and traded the Kimber off to a friend along with a couple of other guns for a Honda VTX1300C so I could spend time training my 14 year old son with his Motorcycle learners permit by riding along with him while he was driving his Yamaha V-Star 250. Here in Oklahoma 14 year olds can drive a 250 CC and under motorcycle on public roads if they have the proper license. We've put over 1500 miles on both bikes just before he got his license on the 10th of August and then started school on the 11th of August. .
  11. While I carry a Delta Elite 10mm my wife loves her Walther PPS in .40 S&W. It's a dandy concealable gun that suits her perfectly.
  12. 10mm and an AR-10 style .308? Heck, I'm all over that as they are two of my favorite guns. I've got two stories that go with it. It's been over a year and a half since my best friend and shooting buddy (Randy) passed away from complications from his cancer treatment. I sure miss him but I've been helping his widow (Linda) with the selling of some of the guns she didn't feel the need to keep. I really miss our shooting the 50 BMGs together. I'm now carrying Randy's 10mm Delta Elite. Linda sold it to an acquaintance and customer of mine. When she listed it she was perfectly honest about it listing it as a Foster Lower with a Colt Delta Elite upper custom handgun. The guy that purchased it decided after about 3 weeks he wanted his money back for it. Since it was not both Colt upper and lower. I told him that wow it was not cool to pull that and Linda was not a dealer and she was straight up front about the gun from the start. I ended up telling him that I would purchase it from him rather than have her have to give his $1000 back. I kind of figured he would get the point that you just didn't do that to a widow. Well I ended up trading my 300 Blackout for it but don't regret it one bit. It's my daily carry gun now, that shoots perfectly from the day we swapped. It's also something I'm proud to carry that Randy was proud of and in remembrance of him. Of course I love my Armalite AR-10T and it's among the top 5 guns I own but there is a story to one of my other favorite guns and it's pretty new. A couple of years ago I purchased a FNAR .308 with the 20” heavy barrel. While It was okay the trigger was not something that made me very happy and I couldn’t find a way to make it like I wanted. I never seemed to be able to get it group consistently below 1” to 1.5”as opposed to my Armalite AR-10T that gives me consistent .5 MOA groups with 168 grain A-Max bullets. So Tuesday the 28th of April I walked into the Yellow Rose a local range and gun shop run by a friend of mine and he had a Windham .308 Hunter with the wooden laminate nutmeg stock in the rack. There was something about it that turned me on and Wednesday I dropped off my FNAR to see if I could get any nibbles on it so I could make room for the Windham rifle. Well 3 hours later I got a call and it sold for what I had asked. I expected it to set on his shelf for two or three weeks so I was pretty tickled. On Thursday I had some time so I wandered down to the shop to make the deal the rifle. I've been working most of the evening on it getting it like I want it. I tried to get the trigger down to a reasonable weight the way I usually do by running a ¼”X28 tap up in the grip mounting hole and putting a 1/4 “ allen set screw to reduce the length of pull on the trigger however by doing that and putting lighter springs I still couldn’t bring the trigger pull down below 6 lbs. So in the long run I ended up putting a 1.5 lb Jard trigger in it and mounted a Burris XTR 3-12X50 Extreme Tactical scope on it that I originally had on the FN. So far I've not had the time to work up any loads for it but my Armalite AR10T load of 168 gr Hornady A-Max in a Federal case, CCI Magnum primer and Varget powder has given me 5/8 center to center group so far. I'm pretty pleased for it to perform this well without me tweaking the load so far and it only having an 18" barrel. fired it some more this weekend with my son in law and son along with my wife, daughter and grandson I was very surprised at the 300 yard accuracy. My son in law has a 24" Browning .308 built with a Winchester action and a Hoag overmolded stock. The Windham out shot it and grouped at what looked like about a 2" group. I didn't have the Rhino as we were all in the son in laws truck. However I'm as pleased as I can be. I was not even shooting from a bench but shooting out of a deer hunting hut window. Even my 13 year old son put three bullets touching at the 300 yard gong then a couple of flyers opened up the group but he called them. He however is not getting my Windham for a long time. While I really like my Armalite AR-10 the guys a Windham are putting some real quality into their rifles. I do believe this rifle is going to be my new deer rifle and hog hammer.
  13. It's been over a year and a half since my best friend and shooting buddy (Randy) passed away from complications from his cancer treatment. It's also something I'm proud to carry that Randy was proud of and in remembrance of him. Before I started carrying the Delta Elite I carried a Kimber Ultra Carry II .45 ACP in a Crossbreed holster. I loved it but the only problem I had was after 4 years of daily carry I had worn too much of the bluing off. Now with the stainless Delta Elite that is not a problem. Plus I just couldn't carry it in a hybrid plastic/leather holster and purchased a Milt Sparks VMII for it.
  14. I sure hope this country wises up and we elect someone that is really good for America. The last several years have sure sucked.
  15. I've been watching the up and down price on guns, reloading components and especially .22 ammo. I'm proud to be a small part of a forum that bans price gouging. These lowlife, mouth breathing neck beards that purchase .22 ammo at .04 to .06 cents a round and sell it at .16 cents a round frost my butt. When this all started with the crooked election of Obama I had just purchased one of those plastic ammo boxes of 1600 rounds of CCI round points and my son and his buddies got started dipping into it pretty quickly. I had to put the kibosh on that and slow them down right quick. I banned the use of semi auto for bolt action shooting at my front yard range and kid training area. Around that time one of my neighbors died and his English wife decided to move back to England and had an auction of all his guns and ammo. She thought he only had about 4 guns but when they started looking they found out he had 30 or 40 guns and over 30 bricks of .22 LR ammo. During the auction the price per brick got up to $84 a brick and when the auctioneer asked him how many he wanted at that price, he said all of them. Now he couldn't have been purchasing that much to gouge but it was a sad commentary on the conditions of ammo sales at the time. Two weeks later I was able to purchase 3, 525 bricks of .22 LR for .04 cents a round at $22 a box at Walmart. Of course I couldn't find any again at Walmart for for about a year. I've now worked up my supply enough to last me for quite a while or at least enough for my son and his buddies to keep the gongs dinging a bunch. I just wish I could find .22 short for a reasonable price.
  16. Already been there and done that. Before my son started on this journey he started with the 3 day motorcycle course at the local college. I was quite impressed with their training even with the amount of miles they put on the motorcycles during the course. I lot of hands on training. It's accreted enough so that he won't even have to drive with an Oklahoma Hwy Patrol License officer when his permit time is over.
  17. 98Z5V you are spot on about the V-Star 250. Had I realized it's short comings I probably would have talked my son into a water cooled 250 Street trail Honda. We tightened the chain today and also put on the engine guard. I will never understand why Yamaha let that model out of the factory with that clutch. At first I thought it was just his bike with the crazy 7/8 engagement clutch. I tried to adjust it to function differently and ended up with it not engaging at all and had to adjust it back to the way it came originally. The bike is now right at a little over 700 miles and I've got it scheduled for it's first maintenance appointment on Thursday. I am a little worried about the dealer maintenance though. When they sold it they told me it didn't come with a tool kit and when I asked about the oil filter the guy that spoke like he was the shop manager told me you had to split the case to get to the oil filter so it was a dealer service item. What a bunch of BS, it's on the right side of the engine under a cover with three bolts holding it on. Just like our old Kawasaki Bayou. The only reason I am taking it in is I'm not comfortable adjusting the valves but could probably figure it out. However I'm pretty busy with my company and time is an issue. This evening after we got done working on his 250 I decided to put a new set of saddlebags on the Honda 1300. I purchased a Jumbo Slant Saddlebag from J&P Cycles for $178 and I'm not impressed one bit with them. Instead of the throwever set like I have on it. These require me to drill two holes to mount them with the saddlebag guard on the inside. What a pain in the butt. Trying to line up the holes through the saddlebags, guard mount holes, back rest holes and the factory holes inside the crop on top of the rear fender is a big pain in the butt. AARRGG!!! Also the plastic closure locks suck. As my son opened one up for the first time the plastic backing that holds it in place came off. Not very high quality for that price.
  18. Thanks Shepp, my wife and I started over again at age 43 (her) and I was 45 when Scotty was born. He and my wife have had the 4H Jackson County Riding club ( horses) as a big part of their lives since he was about 8 years old. I keep my butt of horses and much prefer my Rhino and now the Honda VTR1300R. It's great that we can do this together and I'm having a ball with it trying to teach him what is right and what will get you hurt. His best friend is also on his motorcycle learners permit so I've been taking him out with us to learn the ropes so to speak. The night before last the three of us were on a two lane road doing about 65 MPH when a cattle truck passed us going the opposite direction and he was hauling butt with a powerful blast of air he was pushing. It startled me quite a bit and the first thing I did was to look in my rear view mirror to make sure it didn't knock my son or his friend off their bikes. Then we pulled over and talked about it. There are so many things a person need to watch for but if I can keep them from being run over it will be worth it. I'm also having a bunch of fun compared to when I road years ago. I had a Kawasaki Vulcan and the position I was setting in made long rides impossible. This Honda 1300 is just right and it's great to put long rides on with my son on his V-Star 250 f
  19. My son turned 14 in June and here in Oklahoma 14 year olds can get a license to ride motorcycles 250 cc and under. I purchased him a 2015 Yamaha V-Star 250 so he can ride to school from now on. Right now he has some more time on his drivers permit before he is officially licensed. I ended up trading 3 guns for a Honda VTR1300R twin cylinder motorcycle. So we could spend time driving together. Now I've got two sets of saddlebags on order. The brackets that keep them out of the rear tire and engine guard in case he lays it over. It should protect his legs a bit more. I also purchased him a good Fulmer helmet and HID Headlights for both of our motorcycles. Man those new Ebay HID lights are not very expensive and they are great lights that make it so I don't even need to use the high beams. Lately with the OKlahoma temperatures running around 108 during the day we've been riding in the evening after it cools off. About 60 to 75 miles every evening so he gets as much hands on training as I can fit in before he gets his regular license. Now the big deal is to keep him fr4om getting run over by some driver that does not notice him. By the way I recently got an app for my cell phone called Geek and it's full of Chinese stuff mostly electronic but a bunch of it being deals I can't hardly believe. I recently purchased a wrist light that is exactly like the Surefire 2211 wrist light that sells for $495 bucks. I only paid $18 each for every one I purchased. They call it a Tactical Rechargeable LED Flashlight After I purchased the first one and discovered it was exactly like the Surefire with Cree bulb Lithium Ion batteries I just had to purchased enough for my family for hunting or whatever they need light for. I hate buying Chinese stuff but this is exactly what Surefire is selling minus the Surefire label The web site is https://www.wish.com
  20. I have the hankering for the Labradar Chronograph that uses radar instead of sky screens that can accidentally get shot. The only problem is they were supposed to be on the market last August but I don't think they have gotten their stuff together enough to actually get any sold yet. It's sad because it really sounds like a great idea.
  21. If you're looking for something to aid in cleaning your rifle I would stay away from ATF as a lube or cleaner. I use non-chlorinated Brake cleaner to cut carbon when cleaning all my guns. It's just like those $8 or $9 cans of gun cleaner spray but you can buy the Walmart or what ever brand for about $2.50 a tall can. It's great for cleaning those semi auto .22 LR guns that are all carboned up from lack of cleaning. Just use it to wash out all the crap in those actions with a bunch of springs that are a pain to take apart and put back together. Just be sure and keep it off any wood finish. It won't hurt polymer guns but it will eat gun stock finish. Now Synthitic motor oil is a great lubricant for rifle or handguns but recently I've switched to FireClean for all my moving parts on my guns. www.firecleanusa.com It keeps carbon from sticking. It's long lasting and I especially like it in my carry gun a 10mm Colt Delta Elite. I actually picked it up from Amazon Prime on line.
  22. About 2 months ago I wondered into our local gun shop and spotted a beautiful .308 AR on the wall and couldn't help myself I had to have it and to make a long story short I purchased it. It's a Windham Hunter with the Nutmeg Laminated wood stock. I've also got a very nice Armalite AR-10T and I can't complain about either rifle. Windham Arms is made up of the previous Bushmaster employees that didn't want to move to NY. Can't say I blame them but the craftsmanship is wonderful and you can tell they take pride in their work. Now to follow on to what Timbuck2 mentioned about the next item on the list 50 BMG. I've had one for several years now and they will put a very big grin on your face and any friend you let shoot it. I spent all Sunday afternoon on our bulldozer making a 1000 yard range at my place where I can really put my 50 to proper use. Shooting 100 yards off my front porch with it is kind of a waste.

They often sent cooks out in the field with us and the food was pretty good. We even had the 3 trash cans filled with water and immersion heaters to clean our mess kits. Sometimes they even served us steak. When I first came in we were issued C-Rations and soon went to MREs. We had lots of names for them but they really were much better than C-Rations and most of the time when we were issued them we had that little self heating packet. In my later years in Germany we didn't have field training and instead I was on a BDAT team. (Bomb Damage Assessment Team) We would ride around base after a simulated attack to figure out what we would have to do to get certain facilities back to service. I sure got tired of wearing chemical gear.
  24. I just received 8, 100 round MTM plastic boxes to go with the 1000 rounds of .308 Federal Brass that I picked up a few weeks ago. So far I've loaded up 500 rounds. I also received in the same package one of those Frankford Arsenal Quick-n-EZ Rotary Seperator Kits and a new bulb for our Mitsubushi TV for when I'm not loading ammo.
  25. By the way Varget is one of the more temperature stable powders on the market. Today I was going through a lot of loads out there and I found a bunch listed as 46 grains behind 168 gr Bergers, Speer etc. For me that is too hot summer or winter but for some people it seems to give them good groups in semi auto and bolt guns. Now back to the disclaimer don't jump on the higher Varget loads. Start around 41 grains and work your way up stopping if you find signs of excessive pressure or you don't get corresponding higher velocities.
