  1. "The performance of the carbine firing Federal ammunition in this test was undoubtedly impressive. The firing of approximately 412 pounds of ammunition with very minimal maintenance in austere conditions without a single malfunction – not to mention remaining serviceable and combat accurate from the first shot to the last – could hardly be improved upon. To many who read this report, this is all the justification they need to purchase this type of ammo." Ok, this all makes sense. I don't have a problem with the cost of replacing a barrel or extractor due to more wear (in fact I already have replacements in hand for that eventuality) but reliability is not something I am willing to sacrifice just to save a few bucks. I'll keep my remaining 500 rounds of Tula dry & rust free for that last ditch ain't got nuthin' else left day but will move to purchasing brass case ammo only from here on out. I've only got a couple hundred rounds of the stuff through a new 7.62 chambered barrel (with zero malfunctions mind you) but hopefully that hasn't caused excessive wear on it yet.
  2. Welcome from Northeast Texas.
  3. Good info that breaks it down very simply and is easy to understand. Thanks for sharing.
  4. Ain't that the truth. Maybe someday...
  5. HA, my sympathy for their plight could not be less than it already is
  6. Next, he stabs himself in the eye with his caliper to measure how far the bullet hit from the knuckle he was aiming at.
  7. Glad they handled it for you. I read ammo suppliers fine-print before buying. Some word theirs in a way that just makes me not want to buy from them (such as saying if it is stolen in transit they are not responsible) while others offer package insurance to replace it if it is stolen. I've never had an order not show up but I suppose it could happen even out here in the country.
  8. Since it's a DPMS Oracle (I have one too) I'd just go with a DPMS setup. They have mil-spec & commercial sizes & either of them should work just fine. http://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/receiver-parts/buffer-tube-parts/buffer-tubes/ar-style-308-stock-mounting-kits-prod44751.aspx
  9. I'll try other weights, maybe even some handloads. What I want to end up with is a one rifle & one load combo that I can shoot very well. I'm not big on multi-tasking a bunch of different loads while learning, so I hope I can learn to shoot one load better just from familiarity with how it behaves. After I get that one down, I'll go for mastering a second load & so on.
  10. That's what the man said. He's a really truthful kinda fella too. I was surprised, thinking the military only used US mil-spec annealed brass ammo but he claims they used the grey steel-case ammo with the silver-colored bullets that look like my Tulammo.
  11. Hopefully they will focus on "people who do bad things with guns" and leave the law-abiding "citizens who bring no harm to others" alone. Places like the bad-neighborhoods in Memphis, Chicago, L.A., Philly & NY need some attention.
  12. Had a change of direction with this AR308 build since I began getting the parts for it, such as the 18" .308 Ballistic Advantage barrel. I think I'll keep the original 7.62 chambered DPMS Oracle for the tactical model and set this one up for more range and accuracy. Not a true long-range build, just more of a good mid-range version. I don't mind using the cheap steel-case ammo in the 7.62 barrel but I'm going to stick with the 168gr Federal Gold Medal Match ammo in the .308Win chambered build. When she's ready for optics, I hope to be able to follow the "Spend more on the optics than the gun" rule too.
  13. Nice catch but I'll stick with my warm-water catfish!
  14. Kim isn't going to hit a city where they play basketball. Might hit his buddy Dennis or one of his other NBA idols
  15. When I showed one of my .308/7.62 Tulammo's to a buddy for his Army background analysis, he said it was just like the kind they used in Iraq. At first glance he thought it was a Wolf round, said they used lots of them over there
  16. In steel I've only shot the Tula 308/7.62x51 stuff, w/no malfunctions. For the 15 I'll only be using annealed brass 5.56x45 NATO or .223Rem. I like the 55g Independence 5.56 but want some heavier grain loads too. But dang, that stuff ain't cheap! Brass 223/556 is cheap enough that steel doesn't really seem to save a lot but maybe I just need to practice a lot more so the difference will be significant!
  17. I like steel case ammo. It's cheap and I haven't had any problems with it (I use Tulammo), I can shoot lots of it and I will probably get a replacement barrel for just in case but more than likely the original will outlast all the ammo I could ever afford to buy.
  18. Holler if ya need us to expedite a wrist-support in chop-chop haha
  19. BCG is the Ballistic Advantage 308 in black phosphorous, to go with the 18" Ballistic Advantage mid-length gas 308 stainless barrel. Trying the Aero M5 upper on a Juggernaut Tactical lower w/CMMG LPK, MechArmor 3/0 single-stage trigger & adjustable stock & carbine buffer kit. Better scope to come later but going with a 2.5-10 Nikon Pro Staff 5 w/BDC reticle for now.
  20. I'm mixing up 5.56 parts and 308 parts...in the forums not the builds! Got the Aero M5 upper; it is not going to fit well with the Fortis handguard so may look into another Juggernaut Tactical in 15" since I have the 18" barrel going on it.
  21. Congrats on the new dad thing. I ordered a Ballistic Advantage 18" barrel and BCG. They said they already took care of the headspacing stuff & I don't need to worry about it until the barrel gets worn.
  22. Howdy from East Texas
  23. Had to come back just to listen to it again. This page will be getting more visits from me for that.
  24. I'd hope they're big thick ones, anchored deep for a Cat 5 Hurricane. "But Skipper!" said Gilligan. "I didn't mean to turn the hut into an airplane that would take off without us!"
  25. I know! shoulda' coulda' wish i woulda' stayed in Key West. Wonderful place, if you have a good hurricane evacuation contingency plan ;)
