I forgot to mention... The carrier I have is a Next Level NiB NLX308, purchased secondhand (from a member here), but brand new. I checked NLA’s website, and they don’t list a NiB bolt or completion kit online. So I contacted them. I won’t get into the details on the public part of the forum, but suffice it to say the CS guy at NLA is a stand-up person, and is bending over backwards to help me complete this BCG, which seems to have been obtained under questionable circumstances. I’ll be singing the praises of Next Level Armament for a long, long time.

Discontinued Handguards at SLR - 40% off

...and I just got an e-mail from Alfredo at SLR... "Chase, I have changed the price on the site, new price is 161.99. The handguard is being discontinued." Handguard ordered, grand total of $172.94, with shipping. Sometimes it pays to be "that guy." ?? @jtallen83 -

I sent them an e-mail through their website, asking if that handguard has been discontinued and, if so, how I could get it at the closeout price. Maybe they'll honor it (I'm enrolled on their site, set up to get e-mail notifications, but didn't get this one...). If not, I'll buy it from Optics Planet for $255.99. May be my last chance to get a DPMS Low M-Lok rail that only weighs 10.4 oz. -

I understand they make great parts and are proud of them, but... If $269.99 is the 40% off price, that means the original price was $449.99. That's high, even for SLR. -

So... are these not on sale any longer? I figured if they're closeouts, they'd show the 40% off price on the website until they were sold out... I'm looking at the 308L-SOLO13.5ML-UL, and SLR's website shows $269.99. If that's 40% off, then... Damn. -
I can't remember the last time I went to an indoor range. Having 160 acres and 200+ yards of clear shooting lane on private property spoils a person...

Shooter killed; good guy with gun
COBrien replied to 98Z5V's topic in Firearm Industry News and Gossip
I haven't read that article, but I do know some of the information that has been released regarding that. Being crazy isn't a crime, so the FBI, OCPD, OSBI, etc. etc. couldn't have done anything about it. Further, it is extremely difficult in Oklahoma to involuntarily commit someone to a mental institution -- they have to pose a credible threat to themselves or someone else before they can even be EOD'ed (Emergency Order of Detention) for 72-hour observation. -

As it turns out, there were actually two (2) concealed carry license holders who handled the situation. Both were in the parking lot at the time, both had left their weapons in the trunks of their cars (because Louie's has a 'no weapons' policy, which I tend to ignore, but that's another story for another day), and both approached the shooter at the same time. One was ordering him to drop the weapon (an action which, in and of itself, was illegal in Oklahoma until November 2017). When he didn't, and then made some sort of move toward one of the men, they each squeezed off a round (or two -- info is still fuzzy on that). -
Writing an article for a "shooting news" site professing the greatness of your own product is blatant self-promotion of the highest order, IMO. It's written in such a way that, if the reader didn't look at the "by line", the article would appear to have been written by some neutral/unbiased gun writer. That's the problem I have with it. But maybe I'm too critical/cynical...

Politics be damned, the one in the wife's purse and the one on my hip also live up to that reputation.

Once I saw this: Farnam Signature 308 Operator Rifle in 7.62×51 : Update Ammoland Inc. Posted on May 28, 2018 by John Farnam I stopped reading.

Ah. Damn. I should have known it was too good to be true. I was under the impression there were some (at least 1...) tungsten weights in a rifle buffer. I guess I could always rig up a lightweight spacer(s) and start removing steel weights. OR I could just grab myself some 3/16" dowel rod, run it in the bore, and open up my port to 7/64"...
-
Excellent. Thank you, sir! I was about to go through that thread right now, until I noticed you'd posted here. I've already ordered an H2 buffer for the wife's rifle, so I'll try swapping some weights from that standard carbine buffer into my rifle buffer and see how that works out. I mean, hell, it's free and easy, right? If I can't get it to run that way, I'll open up the port and consider it resolved.
-
Do you recall what you opened the port up to? I want to say I’ve seen that the Del-Ton port is .092”, but I could be mis-remembering that.
-
Yes sir, it’s a Del-Ton barrel — 16” rifle gas. I think I’ll lighten the buffer first, then look into the next step(s).

Finally got this rifle together a couple weeks ago, and took it out Friday afternoon for function testing. Rifle ran well, but won’t lock back on an empty mag. I’m sure it has something to do with the full auto carrier (it was cheap and readily available at the time I ordered it). I’m going to take the buffer apart and swap one of the weights for a steel weight from a carbine buffer. Hopefully that’ll get it where it wants to be. If not, I’ll replace another weight. And if that doesn’t work, I’ll bite the bullet and get a semi carrier.
-
Took this rifle and my dissipator out for function testing Friday afternoon. The wife’s rifle ran like a top. Not a single hiccup. Though I’m going to try an H2 buffer, rather than the standard buffer that’s in it.

Damn Fulton Armory. 20% off on .308 parts for Memorial Day weekend. LPK and buffer system (on sale, cheaper than Armalite’s setup, and FA is running them in all their complete rifles...) ordered.

I was going to post this, but was going to wait until they released more information, probably later this morning. What I've been able to glean is this: Shooter is DRT; 1 adult female and 1 juvenile female (mother and daughter) shot; 1 adult male broke his leg while running away from the restaurant; 1 male with "minor injuries," minor enough that OCPD isn't necessarily including him in all their press releases. -
Think what you may, but I know it works. And where I come from, “It ain’t stupid if it works.” You do what works for you, I’ll do what works for me. I don’t talk shiit on your methods, don’t single me out for mine. In short: Get bent.

I’m dusting off this old thread, and plan to update as I collect parts. This will be a LOOOONG term project, and parts will only be purchased if they’re on a damn good sale. So far, I’ve got a Fulton lower, an MBT, a Next Level (I think?) carrier, and an A*B Arms USS (w/ butt plate — still pissed about having to pay $30 to buy it separately...). Waiting on the Armalite receiver extension kit to come back in stock, and that’ll be purchased next. Unless FA has a site-wide sale between now and then. I’m picturing a Criterion/ADM 16” rifle gas barrel, not sure on profile (HBAR or Hybrid), and past that I really don’t know. Trying to keep the weight down (especially if I go HBAR), so considering an SLR ION UltraLite handguard.

As soon as I figure out what box I put the 1/2-28 brake in, I’ll shoot you a PM. I laid hands on the 5/8-24 tonight digging around for my SLR SR-30, so I know exactly where it’s at. Lol! As an aside, I had to remove and reinstall the handguard on my LR-308 tonight — it started creeping around the barrel nut. While I had it apart, I went ahead and threw on an SLR Sentry adjustable block, and then put the SR-30 on there. Now I can sell the SEI Good Iron brake to @AngelDeVille, if he still wants it 5 months after I told him I’d “get around to it one of these days.”

That is an excellent point. Once I have the can in hand, I doubt I'll be shooting without it...
