  1. Buy these: https://hbindustries.net/store/shop/ar15-gas-block-aligner-7-62mm/ and never worry about block-to-port alignment again. Also available in 5.56. This video sold me on them:

    DRT Ammo?

Shiite. 21 views and no replies. ...guess I'll do my DRT ammo review at the same time I do my Leupold VX-HOG review...
  3. #MeToo
  4. I just read the reviews on the Brownell's tool. Ouch. Another option would be to pick up a Picatinny rail vise block. Of course, that will require using a bench vise. Or some modifications with a drill...
  5. I successfully managed to not buy an MBT when I saw this sale was back. Then I was on LaRue's website this afternoon, just browsing, and saw it's still going on (I thought these things sold out in hours...?). Damn. Couldn't resist. Bought another MBT...
  6. I've got the OEM flash hider from my DPMS laying around...
  7. I didn't even listen to the audio, but I'm sure I can paraphrase it quite nicely... "As I am unable to think for myself and am currently swept up in all the negative rhetoric being flung about regarding asshurt rifles, I'm going to do my part and cut this'n up. If everybody who owned one did the same thing, this world would be a better place for all of mankind." I'd have bought that A1 handguard from him... And, as sketch mentioned, this man now has video evidence of himself committing a federal felony, which he has posted for all the world to see. Best of luck with that.

    DRT Ammo?

I've been intrigued by DRT ammo for awhile now. Even picked up some .223 a year or so ago, but, well, haven't been to the range to even give it a test run. Having said that, I got an e-mail from DRT today saying they were having a 15% off sale on all their Ten Ring ("traditional") rifle ammo. So I ordered up 100 rounds of Ten Ring .308. 168 gr. Sierra Match Kings, advertised at 2682 fps. $16.49/20. Cheaper than I've found FGMM 168s in quite awhile... https://www.drtammo.com/DRT-Store/Category-Viewer/308---ten-ring I've got some FGMM 168 in the safe, and my rifle seems to prefer it. Planning on comparing the Ten Ring to the FGMM. I also ordered 20 rounds of their DRT lead-free Terminal Shock (the powdered core stuff). 175 gr., external appearance is strikingly similar to SMK, advertised at 2600 fps. $49.49/20. Ouch. https://www.drtammo.com/DRT-Store/Category-Viewer/308 Anyone have any experience with DRT? I keep reading that their Terminal Shock is devastating on game. I'd planned to use it for hogs and coyotes, if it shoots well. But damn, it's expensive.
  9. Ha. But seriously, she's on the fence about barrel length. Stay with me here, because this is about to get weird. Overworked, underpaid, and underappreciated leads to severe burnout. She's considering hitting her 10 years (December 2018) to be vested in the pension, then finding a new career. But, they have a new chief coming in in 2 weeks, so hopefully things will turn around. God bless that man for taking on this unabated dumpster fire. But I digress... For whatever reason, she seems to only want an SBR if she's going to "stick it out" and stay where she's at. I reminded her a $200 tax stamp is all it takes to submit a Form 1, and we're golden. She says that's too much money. What she doesn't realize is that I have a "suppressor fund" in a lockbox under my desk at work. Which I dipped into for a down payment on some jewelry for VDay. I may just dip into it again to pay for the Form 1, register the lower I gave her, and be done with it. Having said all that... I would really prefer for her to go shoot one of those 10" RRAs, then shoot a buddy's 12.5" upper before making a decision. I'll build her whatever she wants, but I'd rather it be exactly what she wants the first time around.
  10. Well, Fulton Armory is having their 10% off sitewide sale for the month of February. So, for Valentine's Day (in addition to "girly" stuff...), the wife is getting an upper, along with everything necessary to make it functional, sans barrel and gas tube. We'll see what she wants to do re: the barrel...
  11. I think her desire for an SBR is twofold (or maybe threefold): 1. Shorter barrel = easier in and out of the car in a hurry. As I posted above, she now has a rifle rack mounted to the back of her passenger's seat (I finally got the Santa Cruz lock and the necessary hardware in from C0, and it's GTG). These new Chargers sure don't offer much interior room when compared to the Crown Vics... Or even the pre-catfish Chargers. 2. It's what SRT is running, so she wants to keep up with the trend. Granted, she's a negotiator at this point, so she is less likely to be neck-deep in it should the fertilizer hit the ventilator, but she is still in patrol. In uniform. Every day. 3. SBRs are cool right now. I'm looking at the ADM 12.5" Hybrid barrel (carbine gas) made by Criterion. That, with a Fulton M4 upper and a handguard of her choosing (I really like these Troy SOCC rails...), and some sort of linear comp (the BRT Covert Comp I ordered seems like a quality piece). The upper will be riding on an old LESO M16A2 lower "owned" by her department. Depending on which lower she's issued (most of the SRT guys were issued LESO rifles prior to the SBR switch, and they swapped out buttstocks, grips, etc.), it will end up with a carbine buttstock of some sort. Still on the fence re: reusing the M16A2 BCG or buying a new one for this upper... If she is dead-set on something in the 10" range, CBI/ADM offers a 10.5" Hybrid with carbine gas.
  12. Where can you get them? I'm curious, but can't find anything but the AR-15 version on DPM's website. EDIT: Is it bad that the amount of Engrish on their website is off-putting to me? "Included also two extra buffer springs, two counterweight springs and an extra heavier counterweight. The shooters can fine tune the riffle circle and the recoil and further to secure the correct bolt locking." "This system concept addressed also to 12 gauge Shotguns builded on AR-15 platforms." Just sayin'...
  13. Agreed -- that's always a concern. My in-laws live in Colorado Springs. While their county (El Paso) hasn't seen a huge influx of progressive/lefties, Denver has. As has Glenwood Springs, where my brother-in-law and his in-laws live. They have, effectively, turned Colorado from a red state to a blue-violet state in a matter of a decade.
  14. Good point, 98. I stumbled upon the Black River Tactical "Covert Comp" and found one on sale ($45 vs. $60), so I ordered one up. Based on some threads I found online (admittedly, from like 2014...), the BRT was one of the better "compensator" solutions for an SBR, as far as concussion, noise, and (strangely, looking at how it's designed) muzzle rise. We'll see. It may not end up on anything for awhile, but I'll find something to throw it on...
  15. My original intention (well, not "original original"...) was to build her a 12.5", either carbine or mid gas. 10.5" FF rail, yadda yadda. But the other SRT guys are now running RRA 10" left-side-chargers, and she wants to hang with them. I'm about 95% sure she's never fired a 10" SBR, but I have. While it's fun for a bit, I wouldn't want to do it without muffs. Or in the dark. And damn sure not indoors, dimly lit, without muffs. But maybe she's more of a man than I am.
  16. Welcome aboard from Oklahoma!
  17. The DD is nice, but that price? FFAAHH. Even OpticsPlanet and Primary Arms, who have been my go-to for the lowest prices on parts, sell them for $1146. I'm looking at a FA upper, Criterion/ADM 10.5", Troy SOCC 9.25" rail, FA upper parts, and Troy fixed front sight (with a MaTech rear that was, erm, "donated" by a friend who has several) for a grand total of $750ish.
  18. Hmm... I've been kicking around the idea of swapping back to the A2 stock on my LR-308 (it's wearing a MOE rifle stock right now...). This might be just the ticket. Or, maybe I order one up in ODG for the Dissipator. That isn't built yet. Because the wife still doesn't know about it.
  19. Assuming there actually was only one shooter, my assumption is more rifles = more mag dumps before they're all too hot to hold (even with gloves). I noticed that -- every large-frame AR was described as an 'AR10'. Ugh. Lots of baggage, yes. But a maximum of 4 or 5 bags at one time, spread out over several days. Less suspicious, and better odds of not having the same bellman carry them all. Report states all .308 ammo was AP, API, or tracer. I'd bet those marks are from either API or tracers.
  20. True. That's why I said 'probably DPMS compatible.' As survivalshop posted, the profile of the upper has nothing to do with the lower it's compatible with. DPMS High, DPMS Low, and DPMS "High Rise" are simply terms used to describe the height of the rail above the bore. This DOES make a difference if a person is wanting to run a railed handguard, railed gas block, or FSB. DPMS Low is AR-15 height. DPMS High is slightly higher. DPMS "High Rise" is ridiculous (I own one...), and really only intended for optics.
  21. Any DPMS/Remington/SR25/LR308 compatible lower will do, not just those that have been mentioned here. Bottom line: If the upper edge of the lower at the rear (between the FCG and receiver extension) has a curve or radius, rather than an angle (like an Armalite), it's probably DPMS compatible.
  22. Okay, with $1k: I could buy a Rem 700 SPS Tac AAC-SD, a Hunter 700 stock, and a set of Warne rings. I'm now a piece of glass and a box of match ammo away from sub-MOA (some reviews are sub-1/2 MOA). Or I could buy MagPul's chassis. And nothing else. Tough decision...
  23. Her reaction to the lower was not as expected... "Oh, you're going to build me an SBR?!" "Um, well, I hadn't planned on it. But if you want one, we can build one. But if you want it for work, I'll just build you an upper and you can check out one of the LESO M16s. That way you're not carrying a personally-owned SBR at work." "Oh. So what's the lower for?" Fawk...
