  1. I'm going to agree with 98Z5V in that you are not getting enough gas to overcome the buffer weight and/or spring tension. However, I'd be more likely to suggest swapping the buffer and/or spring before hogging out (I know, that sounds more drastic than it is...) your gas port. I'm in love with Slash's buffer and Armalite spring in my .308, but if it doesn't run, it doesn't run. You have an adjustable gas block to tame things down a bit.
  2. It’s been awhile, so I figured I’d update this thread. I assembled the lower, sans buffer, spring, tube, and stock. I put in an MBT I had lying around, with the 4.5# spring. Now I just need her to decide on barrel length (which may affect gas tube length...), handguard, and buttstock. And maybe a pistol grip — I threw on the FA A2 from the LPK just to keep shiit in place. I’ve decided, if she wants an SBR, I’ll Form 1 this lower. She won’t carry the trust-owned lower, she’ll carry a LESO M16A2 lower with the SBR upper on it. But, should she decide to change professions at some point, I’d have a registered lower on hand to keep us legal.
  3. I went ahead and ordered one before I posted. Can’t trust you fawkers...
  4. Optics Planet has it for $86.99, coupon code LUCK gets you 10% off. Plus free shipping. $78.29 to your door. Versus $99.99, minus $17, plus $7.75 shipping = $90.74.
  5. I wasn't even aware of this place... And they're only about 1.5 hours from me... Dammit, y'all always cost me more money...
  6. I joined an AR-15 DMR group on Facebook, founded and run by Cain Luna, who owns Superior Rifle Systems. Just saw this come across my news feed the other day: https://srsrifles.com/index.php/product/custom-barrel/ I've been playing with it a bit and it looks like a viable option for those who just can't find that specific barrel they're looking for. Is $299 high for some of the barrels (i.e., could you find something substantially similar from BA, Criterion, etc.)? Sure. But it's a neat idea, IMO. I haven't been able to get any confirmation on whose blanks these are, but based on the description of one of the listed profiles, I'm speculating they may be from McGowen...
  7. Mine arrived yesterday. Took longer than expected, but it was a surprise that way. Notification from UPS: "You have a package on the way. It'll be here Tuesday." Wait, what? WTH did I order?
  8. Okay. As long as you're running a carbine-length BUFFER and SPRING in a carbine receiver extension, you should be good to go. If you run a heavy-weight buffer or spring, you may have short stroking problems. If you run a rifle-length buffer in a carbine extension, you will have problems. If you run a rifle-length spring in a carbine extension, you may have problems. Make sure all your buffer parts are appropriate for your extension, and you should be fine. Tuning an AR platform rifle is a balance between gas and buffer. Too little gas or too much buffer/spring results in short stroking. It really is that simple. With a .308, 18" barrel and rifle gas, you should be good to go with a carbine receiver extension, carbine buffer, and carbine spring. If it short strokes, find a lighter buffer or spring. Building an AR is equal parts science and art -- what works for one person, on one particular build, may not necessarily work for the next person building the same thing.
  9. I’ve got a buddy (pending approval to join here) who’s interested. Just to be clear, are you selling the handguard, barrel nut, and gas block all together?
  10. Did anyone else notice the release date and wonder if this is legit?
  11. Ribbed. For a non-slip grip...
  12. Looks a lot like the carriers Next Level sells. PM Incoming.
  13. I'll keep you in mind on that. The packages for both have been cut open, because I'm like a 6 year old... when I get new stuff, I have to take it out and look at it. Never mounted/installed. The 1/2-28 brake (SRD762, though -- I double-checked) was threaded on dry one time to mock up my Dissipator project. I'm seriously leaning toward this Griffin. I just can't argue with the "universal" mounting, with no modifications. If the wife wants to mount it on her PD-issued rifle for range day, she can. If my buddy wants to mount it to his Colt when we're at the range, he can. "She can can, he can can, we all can can."
  14. Weird. The order I placed on 2/19/18 shows 'Backordered.' Can they have shipped out 35k triggers already?
  15. The only thing I've ever bought from Dick's was a box of .410 shotshells. And only because I needed them, and Dick's was the closest place to where I was shooting. While I was there, I browsed their gun selection. Prices were way high. Frankly, I'm glad they stopped selling ARs. That means they won't be able to screw unsuspecting AR buyers. Now if we can just get them to stop selling all firearms, they won't be able to screw any unsuspecting gun buyers.
  16. Well, I thought I'd made my mind up as to which suppressor I wanted to purchase... I had my sights set on a Sig SRD762Ti-QD. Even bought a couple of their single-chamber brakes to outfit a couple of rifles. Then I stumbled upon the Griffin Armament 30-SD. It mounts to any (read: "most, probably") A2-style muzzle devices with a latching gate, a la KAC. I'm looking for a "do-all" rifle suppressor -- .30 caliber, so I can run it on any of my rifles. I like having a choice in muzzle devices. I look at it this way: with the Griffin, I could mount the can to just about any rifle with an A2-style flash hider, comp, etc., without having to change anything. I like that. The downside is that, well, I've got about $175 tied up in Sig brakes. I could always sell them, though. The cans are comparable(ish) in size, weight, and price (from a friend of mine, local dealer): Sig: 8.3" OAL, 1.75" OD, 15.8 oz., $900(ish) Griffin: 7.6" OAL, 1.5" OD, 19.5 oz., $915(ish) Published sound reduction specs are similar, though I don't give the published specs much weight. What say y'all?
  17. I think it's intended to be used with a, ahem, "blast deflector" shroud placed over it. For flash reduction purposes, and definitely not anything else.

    SS ?

Without knowing anything about your rifle, I'd bet the SS stands for Single Stage. Armalite only lists 2 trigger sets for sale on their website, a Precision Two-Stage ($145.00), and a Single-Stage ($42.25). https://www.armalite.com/?s=trigger+set&post_type=product
  19. Meow, Bubba, what's with the hostility?
  20. I figure I should probably update this thread... Since my last post, I've purchased, mounted, and boresighted a Leupold VX-HOG (which is now discontinued...), added a Sniper Skid Plate, swapped in a LaRue MBT, and, well, that's about it. Pic attached. I have swapped back to the OEM A2 buttstock for the time being, though it may be a permanent thing. Our daughter was born in December 2016, so spending time with her has taken priority over range time. In fact, I went out to the farm and shot pistols with a friend and his 18 y/o son last Sunday, to help him determine what he'd like to purchase for CC. That was the first time I'd pulled the trigger on a live round since September, 2016 (the last batch of range pics I posted here...). Up next is sighting the VX-HOG in (and a review, pursuant to 'The Rule'), and trying out some DRT 168s (with range report, again, pursuant to 'The Rule'). I'm still rolling pennies for my Sig SRD762TiQD. So the appropriate muzzle brake will be installed at some point. Then I can sell this SEI brake to @AngelDeVille. I haven't forgotten about you, Angel!
  21. I'm not on Instagram, so I don't know how it works... But I found this on Soldier Systems: http://soldiersystems.net/2018/02/20/x-products-owner-james-malarkey-thinks-the-magazines-he-sells-should-be-restricted-by-law/ From that article, here are Mr. Malarkey's Facebook rants: Also, here's his wife's Facebook post re: Everytown (again, from the Soldier Systems article):
  22. There's one on the online auction site, links to which are verboten here. $7.98 + free shipping. The seller is caliberbrakes.
  23. No problem! I stumbled upon them a couple months ago. Having said that, I don't know that it's quite as simple as the guy in the video makes it out to be. As mentioned above, given the various gas port sizes used, most gas blocks have a much larger opening. I'd recommend moving the gas block one direction (i.e., to the left) until it stops on the pin, then the other direction until it stops on the pin, then split the difference and torque it down. Then you'd be perfectly centered.
  24. I suppose a person could chamfer/bevel the sharp edges (assuming that's what everyone on Brownell's is complaining about) and lube 'er up good.
  25. At this point, the simplest solution would be to sell the rifle and move to a free country. Then you could build/buy whatever you wanted. Oklahoma is nice. In all seriousness, though, if I were in your position, I'd take it to a gunsmith (or send the upper off to one -- no FFL paperwork that way) and have them do the work. Based on your posts, it sounds like you're still learning. No one can fcuk a rifle up faster than a novice with a Dremel. I mean that in the nicest way possible, as I, too (like all of us here), was once a novice. With a Dremel. And bastard files. And lots of crazy misconceptions about how shiite comes apart and goes together.
