  1. Welcome from Wisconsin... I puked in my mouth a little saying my state’s name
  2. Well kak industries sells a bolt and bolt carrier group for it. glad I am not the only one that read it that way.
  3. I guess I have to get into fishing more!
  4. Well that sucks. Based off his initial post when he started this thread, the last sentence in the second paragraph he was saying he had heard of ARs in 270 wsm and 300 wsm but never seen one. It made it seem like that is what he was building.
  5. I want to hear from mikedaddy before I even start collecting parts, no point building it if it has even the occasional feed or extraction problem.
  6. Looking at chuckhawks recoil table on their website, the .270 wsm only has slightly more recoil than a .308 win with 165 gr bullet and 2700 FPS muzzle velocity. And a bit less recoil than .30-06 Springfield, which I hunted with for a few years in a bolt gun with no muzzle brake. Now yes probably won’t be spotting your hits at most ranges, if any. But I don’t think the recoil would be to insane. My neighbor hunts elk with a .300 win ultra mag bolt gun and says his muzzle brake helps the recoil immensely.
  7. It does make sense. And I can’t say I have ever shot that caliber, but my wife’s uncle loves it. And I bet in an AR with a lot of that energy going into the bcg and then the buffer assembly, plus the added weight, and a good muzzle brake; the recoil would be a lot better. Even .308 feels a lot softer in an AR with just an A2 birdcage compared to a bolt gun and even other semi autos such as an m1A.
  8. You know I love the .260 also. And it is better for reloading, expense wise, and recoil. But .270 WSM ballistically would be like putting on a cheat code in a video game. Plus would be better for long range shots on game such as elk.
  9. To bad it sinks during a boating accident
  10. Just a reminder to some who may be reading this thread. This post is about chambering in .270 Winchester Short Magnum. A regular .270 Winchester, while it is an amazing round and really popular, uses a 30-06 Springfield case necked down. This setup makes it to long for a short action such as a 308ar platform. It needs a standard/long action platform which very few companies produce an AR in, Nemo arms being one of the few. The .270 WSM however uses a faster case necked down with a steeper shoulder. The fatter case allows it to be shorter and fit into a short action like a 308ar while still having the powder capacity to give it similar performance to the longer and skinnier .270 Winchester. This fatter case and steeper shoulder angle are said to make it feed less reliably, although that has been proven false in other calibers before. Think 6.5 Grendel chambered for an AR15, just on a larger scale. Hopefully we can get to the truth of chambering this awesome, flat shooting caliber (but somewhat expensive ammunition), in a fun rifle like a 308ar. I can’t think of a better performer out of the rifles we all love here.
  11. Found this thread and I am reviving it if possible because I was thinking how awesome it would be to to build a 308ar chambered in 270 WSM. @MikedaddyH did you have any feeding, extracting, or other issues? Tell me more about this build. I think it would make a great mule deer, elk, and 1k+ yard target gun. And Kak is making bolt parts for these Winchester short magnums. 12. I see what you are talking about, how boring. Everyone loves a good catastrophic failure as long as it doesn’t happen to them. Lol
  13. Am I the only one wanting to see what happened when you fire while it is open? #fuckwarninglabels 🤣
  14. Isn’t something like 38 million new gun owners this year? So if all of the new owners alone buy only 100 rounds, that’s 3.8 billion rounds just to new hun owners and let’s face it, a lot of them buy 1000 rounds or more. A lot of new reloaded too buying up reloading stuff. add in all the other gun owners and no wonder. Then throw in the fact that a lot of over seas places are still shut down where we get most of our primers. we start up a primer company here in the US and we could make a killing

Hmm I should come try out some of your loads and see if my rifle likes them 😉
  16. Looks like between 1100-1200 foot pounds and about 2400 fps depending on barrel length. Little light hitting for such a big animal, so damn good shot.

Yeah I love their regular 120 grain ballistic tips so I can’t wait to try the 129 ABLRs. Wonder if 260 could fit the 142s in and still be mag length.

I want to get some loads with nosler’s accubond longe range bullets because they are suppose to reliably expand even at 1300 fps

I am not a huge fan of Winchester ammo. Always had luck with Hornady and nosler. Plus I like their performance from a lot of their bullets.

That does suck shooter. Once when I was hunting with .243 win after breaking my collar bone, I shot a nice size buck and I know I hit him. He went down on his back. I had to reload because I had just shot a few other deer. When I got my gun up I saw him walking away and didn’t have a shot. I waited 30 minutes and then went to gut the other deer I had shot. After that I found the blood trail for the buck but due to the melting snow and it not being very thick I lost the trail and had to give up after searching for 2 hours
  21. Impressive little round. What was the estimated energy and speed on impact at that range?

I need to find a place to push my .260 beyond 300 yards too.

I am surviving. Sorry for being a stranger. I missed you guys though. Hope we can do another Wisconsin shoot in the spring.

I got to use my .260 rem this year for the first time, and boy did it do the job. I am in love with this rifle and with the 120 grain Nosler ballistic tips, I have no doubt it could take any medium size game at any ethical range. first to shoot opening morning. This guy got within 30 yards of me. Put him in the scope and couldn’t see my reticle (or the fact that he had antlers. Lol.) put the gun down, turned on my wonderful primary arms illumination reticle and when the scope was back on him he was still staring at me... he sealed his fate by not running when I gave him the chance. Was a pleasant surprise to be bigger than I thought and have a 7 point rack. next morning I got this nice doe running in at 150 yards. Decent sized, only slightly smaller than the buck. Lung shot (eating heart is my favorite so I shoot higher than heart) but still dropped without take a step. I got a second doe on the third day. Was 250 yards and the .260 rem did the job, she only went 30 yards. Sadly I don’t have a picture because we got snow later and she got covered while in the back of my truck. But she was bigger than the first two deer and possibly the biggest doe I have shot. Lots of nice freezer meat and some fresh hearts, liver, and kidney.
  25. So the brass is stove piping? Do you have pictures of the malfunctions? Also I can’t find any specifics on your buffer spring and buffer. How much does the buffer weigh, how long is your spring and how many coils? Getting that information usually helps some of the smarter guys rail out your buffer assembly.
