Minor setback. I did some digging and found that I need the Armalite "mid carbine" gas tube for this barrel, 12-1/16". Ordered straight from Armalite. This rifle just doesn't want to be finished.

Found this on Faxon's blog. The 18" mid is a touch shorter than the 16" mid. Dunno if it means anything but I'll be testing it out next week.

Compared to the factory PSA barrel, the location of the gas port and GB shoulder on the Faxon is about 1/4" longer. The gas tube still engages the gas key by roughly 1/2" so I should be fine, but I was curious.

16" Faxon pencil barrel came in today. Now that's more like it. Came together very nicely. Even fitted tighter in the upper than the first one. One thing I did notice was that the gas port is further down the barrel than the others by about 1/4". Gas key still engages a good 1/2" so it should work, I hope. Empty gun weighs 7.6 lbs. I'm liking it.

Why is the gas port further from the breech on the pencil profile 308 16 middy"? Will it work with a standard mid length tube? If it's a trade secret, please disregard.

New pencil profile showed up today! Spin test.... drum roll...... PERFECTION! This one runs true. This one fits much tighter into the upper receiver as well, hardly any play. Going check the headspacing at the smith shortly and will assemble this afternoon. I'm pumped!

Best to let em lay. I've heard it's not very good table fare. Maybe if you sausage the whole thing out. (Tooo far?)

Armaspec came in! I had a JP spacer to adapt the carbine buffer into a rifle tube. Installed it to find the carrier going back too far and making contact with the lower. I added a washer to bring the bolt face about 1/4" pass the mag catch. It's stops at the same spot as the DPMS rifle buffer did. I really like the "feel" of the SRS. Very well made. Its also 0.7 oz lighter. Wooo whoo! Breaststroker would be so proud! Just need a barrel to show up now.

I kinda did the same thing. I used some fuel cell tape between the upper and lower. This stuff is made to go between an aircraft fuel cell and the airframe. Very high adhesion and resistive to chemicals. Liked duct tape on steroids. Upper and lower fit is solid as a rock now. If it looks like redneck engineering it's because it is. If you can't duct it, fnck it.
