"I had good luck with these extensions in mine; https://www.taylor-tactical-supply.com/sw-mp22-18rd-mag-upgrade-p/200-18rd-mp22.htm" Thanks for the info. I held off buying the Taurus as one showed up locally the other day, will wait for the M & P instead, the Compact version most likely......

Those useless fuk-tards at Family Services even told the Judge that they actually came to my house and interviewed us. They never ONCE even stepped foot on my property, I have video surveillance and guess what, NOTHING on it the day they said they were here, imagine that? So I paid them a visit and talked to the head of the whole damned place. I told him that no one from their organization had ever been to my house and talked to anybody. I jumped up and down on a few more desks while I was on a roll including talking to the head of the LE agency that took my daughter in laws sworn statement about the beating she took 2 years ago that led up to getting a Protection Order. I asked them if they checked her criminal history? No, they replied, we are only interested in the safety of the persons directly affected and want to protect them from potential violence. GOOD ANSWER, but what about being a little more "timely" with these things I replied? Doesn't matter they said, IF she feels that she's in danger we act on it promptly. Well that's just fine and dandy I said, because IF you would have ran a Criminal Background Check on her useless drug addicted ars you would have found that while she was standing here swearing out a report that there was an active Bench Warrant for her arrest out of another County, and she had been convicted of Falsification twice, plus lying to a Police Officer to avoid a citation, assault and battery (reduced to DOC w/persisting), two OMVI's and multiple moving violations with a couple of accidents. They told me it DID NOT MATTER and looked at me like I was from another planet. I told the HMFIC in charge that you need to CHANGE YOUR PROTOCOL with this chit and at a minimum do a quick background check on these folks who come in here lying their asses off to get their old man locked up and take the kids away from them without ONE SHRED of evidence that any sort of altercation ever happened in the first place. Yep, spoken words can get you a LOT of ground with that sort of thing, but in the end they just basically told me to sit the fuk down and shut the fuk up because it's ALL about the safety of the person filing the report and they have to take it seriously. So yes, some HUGE flaws in the system and they really don't give a chit about fixing any of it.......FWIW..... PS: one good thing did happen out of my trip to town that day, the gal that said she came out here and filed a report that she interviewed us was promptly "let-go" after my visit........sorry for the rant guys and not being shooting related, but pretty important stuff IF you ever get caught up in this sort of thing.....

Some of the Military brass I've ran into over the years isn't worth the effort to reload it. I had saved up quite a bit of 308 brass from our days on the range with the M-60. Can't even remember who made it at the moment, but when I built my first 308-AR I decided to reload some of it. The primer pockets were crimped so hard in that chit that even taking a pocket knife and chamfering the entrance AFTER cleaning/reaming it some with my deburring tool you couldn't get a primer to go into that junk with a flat punch and a BFH. I'd "munch" about 4 out of 10 primers trying to get them set to depth. The brass was also tougher than nails and thick making it difficult to size and trim to length. I suppose the "loose" specs of the M-60's chamber didn't help that scenario but I gave up messing with it and round filed it. In contrast the Lake City Match brass I had saved from my days shooting High Power Matches was superb! No issues anyplace and I even ran some thru a 7mm-08 die and necked it on down to .243 for my Varmint rifle. Those were some of the most accurate loads I ever put thru that rifle loaded with the Match brass and H414. I will admit that I haven't been saving the .223 and 5.56 brass until recently as it's been cheaper to buy than to reload.....but changing the game there and starting to fill some ammo boxes with it just in case..........

A few guns are showing up as well, so basically the "mad-rush" is over and things are starting to settle down a bit. I'm pretty good on weapons at this point, but would like to have a good functioning 22 caliber auto pistol. Every one I've owned to date doesn't work for chit so I send them on down the road. Shooting raccoons in the middle of the night when they try to get into the chicken coup with my 9mm is HELL on my ears and I'm already on the hearing conservation program. Been waiting for Smith and Wesson to get their 22 M & P up to 16 rounds or so. I'd rather have one of those than a Taurus or Kel-Tec........

308 Mags are slow sellers in these parts. Rural King put out one box of them (10 round) about 3 weeks ago and it's still about 3/4 full. Magpul 30 round mags are back in stock as of yesterday. I wonder how long they will last this time. Ammo is also showing up, they had a big wooden box of 7.62 x 39 tracer behind the counter, $1239...yikes! They also had some Wolf 7.62 x 39 for $9.99 for a box of $20, limit two per customer......

Thanks. It was a long and hard fought battle. Three years, two attorneys, one private investigator and an amazing Guardian ad Litem and we now have full custody. The system is so screwed up and corrupt it would take many pages to describe what we went thru. My best advice to anyone caught up in one of these battles is to hire a good attorney and private investigator......and be patient. The Sheriff, Children's Services, the Judge and EVERYONE else involved is going to side with the mother first couple of go-rounds. That's just the way it is even if she's totally dysfunctional, lying anytime her mouth is moving and not doing anything that's she's supposed to in the relationship and for the child/children. No matter how many times you get kicked in the nuts stand your ground and for gods sake when you testify tell the truth. It takes a few go-rounds but eventually things sort themselves out and you can prevail.........FWIW......

First time out with .308 build - major issues
Cliff R replied to Black_Sheep's topic in General Discussion
"It would load and fire no problem when I cycled the charging handle, but would not pull a round from the mag. It would either go into battery on an empty chamber, or the next round would tip up from the magazine and the bolt would wedge on the side of the case. It would also fail to hold open on an empty magazine. Spent casings would eject in roughly the 4 o’clock position." Ejecting the cases but not pulling from the mag sounds under-gassed from what I've seen with this sort of thing. Before opening up the hole for sure I would wait for 98Z5V to show up. He can smell a picture of your rifle and tell you what's wrong with it from what I've seen on here. May be something as simple that the spring, buffer and tube aren't compatible with what you are doing. Adding more gas may simply be a "crutch" fix for an issue with the combination of parts being used. Always best to opt for the correct fix vs over-gassing to correct fundamental problem(s) in other areas.....IMHO...... -
Deal sounds OK, but it's always a crap-shoot with used optics, even the good stuff. I try not to factor that in when making a used rifle purchase even if the optics have warranties that may extend beyond the original purchaser. The 20" "heavy" barrel isn't a good option unless you are going to do all your shooting from a tripod or shooting bench with some sand bags or a good rifle rest. The first 308-AR I built had a relatively heavy 18" barrel, nearly full length hand guard, plus a pretty heavy scope, and I absolutely HATED it. Way too front heavy and poor balance. Fine on range days from the shooting bench but not something fun to carry or hunt big game with. That purchase/build was actually a good thing for me because I was prompted to build a much lighter rifle with lighter optics and paid close attention to final weight and balance. Ended up with a 14.7" light profile barrel and even with an A2 stock it only comes across the scales at 10 pounds, but "feels" 10 pounds lighter than the 18" heavy barreled rifle it replaced. Remarkably they accuracy between those rifles is about the same, but the 14.7" does start to "open" up the groups more after 3rd and 4th round, which is meaningless since I use it for a hunting rifle not target or really long range stuff.......

SCORE! Walked into Rural King yesterday at 7:30am and low and behold there was some ammo for sale........

Agreed, but Darwinism still applies here. There are just some folks out there that that will NEVER get it. I do CSI work for a living and see it every day. My analogy of a drug addict is this. The average person goes for a walk, they come to a fork in the trail. They choose the path to the right and get mauled by a lion, barely escaping with their life. Couple of weeks later and all healed up they take another walk on the same path. They come to the same fork in the trail and NO FUCKING WAY they are going down the path to the right. ("Pain teaches lessons") A drug addict does EXACTLY the same thing, takes a walk, comes to a fork in the path, chooses the path to the right, gets mauled by the lion, eventually heals up, then takes another walk on the same trail. They come to the fork in the trail and son of a bitch they go to the damn right AGAIN! When you figure out why they do that dumb chit again and again and again let me know?.........

Cool! No such thing as to many loaded magazines in the gun safe.....IMHO....

"If you were a Garand owner - you only got "Garand Thumb" once. These says, it seems like people just don't learn from mistakes." Correct, but on the rapid fire portion of the course (or if you are getting overrun by the enemy) things still often don't go as planned! I bypassed all that when I shot completion in Military matches and used an M-14. Never did like the Garand all that much right to start with, right down the noise it makes when ejecting the last round letting everyone know you are empty!......LOL.....

"It’s all been full length resized and I even crimped the bullets with the Lee Factory Crimp die." Something often overlooked when reloading is the crimp. Your crimping die MUST be set to crimp at EXACTLY the right moment during the bullet seating operation. If it happens too early the additional movement/downward pressure from the bullet seating operation can further compress the case and "bulge" the end slightly. In extreme cases it can bulge the case out as well. This can and will make the round very tight in the chamber requiring too much force to get the bolt to close and in full battery. Crimping is a good idea with any ammo going to be used in an auto loading weapon, but the dies must be set correctly and it's always better to sneak up on the end result vs just crimping the chit out of the bullet and hoping things work out well........FWIW.......

I knew this was coming after the last "Obinen" speech. Last week our local Rural King had boxes full of 30 round Magpul AR mags and they were hanging in three different displays back in the gun-barn. Seemed to be no end to them. I went in there last Friday and NOTHING, sold all of them. I talked to one of the guys behind the gun counter and he said folks have been flooding in and buying them up in all their stores. So no guns, no ammo and now no magazines. About all you can find here are 22 single action Red Rider pistols, a few pretty "high end" pistols, and some really "high end" steel shot turkey loads at a couple dollars a round. Makes me wonder if things will ever get back to "normal" again, or if their will ever be a "normal" with this sort of thing?.........FWIW.....

"Pretty sure its carbine stock, that's what is listed in the tech specs" I have three PSA 308-AR's under my belt. All were converted to A2 stocks before the first round was fired out of them. I used DPMS spring/buffers in them. None of mine came with BCG's either, so sourced them out separately but did all that so many years ago can't remember where those came from? To this day I think by accident those two moves were for the better as all of those guns are FLAWLESS no matter what ammo I put thru them. My 14.7" "pencil" barrel rifle has never once had a failure of any type, and I've ran quite a few different types of ammo thru it. I settled on a custom handload using Barnes 175 grain bullets backed by 42 grains of Varget (pretty sure that's the load but it's early and I haven't finished my second cup of coffee yet). For most groups the first two or three rounds will be touching at 100 yards and it may "open up" to about 1-1.25" for the next 2-3 rounds. The last time I shot it before heading out to Colorado Elk hunting I just laid over a big round hay bail and cranked off 6 rounds as fast as I could get back on target at a big piece of cardboard with a black spot on it just over 300 yards away. I could cover all 6 rounds with my hand so figured that's good enough to get on something as big as an Elk if the jerk behind the trigger did their part. PSA may have stepped up their game a bit, so the best course of action would be to get some ammo (good luck finding any) and fire some rounds thru it. This will help "break-in" the parts and give you some idea if it's going to "run" or not? I'd make sure it is well cleaned and lubed instead of taking it right out of the box and heading to the range. PSA's, no matter what "gen" seem to have more issues than others but they aren't totally stupid over there. I had a warranty issue with one of their AR-15 uppers and talked to the tech directly that repaired it. He was well versed in the AR platform from what I could gather from a short phone conversation and found the issues, made the repairs, tested fired, etc. 98Z5Z nailed down the issue before I sent it back but I decided not to take a new upper all apart and start working on it since PSA does warranty what they sell. Turns out they paid shipping both ways and it was back here very quickly, which surprised me do to the volume of sales that company does and I'm sure their warranty department is BURIED in work. In any case hope it turns out well for you, and you'll find PLENTY of help here if it doesn't........Cliff

Thanks guys! Crappy day here, raining, wind blowing, but my turkeys were waiting for me this morning when I got to the coup. They went inside and ate with the chickens!.......
-
Amen brother. I don't "spoil" my grandkids, they are actually helping Deb clean up the house as I type this. There will NEVER be a "face in the cell phone or X-Box all day long" thing going on with either of the two I'm raising. Elena raises rabbits and sells them to Rural King. She names them and carries them to the service desk to fill out her voucher every 6 weeks or so. She also raises chickens and sells the eggs. Last year she netted over $500 selling rabbits and couple of hundred for eggs, and she's only 6 years old. She has over $1800 cash in the gun safe last time I looked! We spend a LOT of time outdoors, walking up on deer, turkeys, cutting firewood, and some groundhog hunting. No "free lunches" here for sure but believe me my grandkids want for nothing....Deb says I'm a big "softy" when it comes to them.........did I mention she's a pretty good cook too!....

I ESPECIALLY want to Thank and give a Big Shout out to 98Z... and Many, many Thanks to 98Z for all that info. Geez, now you've done it, thanked him twice in the same thread....now your gonna have to enjoy a warm shower with him while you're having that beer!...LOL Seriously, there is NO replacement for experience with these things. I built half a dozen 308-AR's before finding this site and becoming a member. Even with decades of experience with the M-16/M4/AR-15 (Military SAI for 20 years) I ran into quite a few issues including incompatibility and using different parts. I still have a decent size box of leftover chit under the work bench for my efforts..........Anyhow, glad it is working as it should be. I'm not overly fond of the steel case stuff. Every once in a while my AR-47 will encounter one that jams and locks it up so tight I have to use a steel ram-rod and a BFH to get the bolt back and case out of it. Kind of weird, but it will run many hundreds of rounds w/o issue then just lock-up. Got to be the ammo, either too much pressure or piss poor sizing of the cases.......
-
Thanks. LONG story, but short version is that after a 3 year Court battle we now have FULL custody of Mason! I'm raising two grandkids now, having a blast doing it too......
-
Yes, they are not INSIDE my "run" and spent most of the day out free-ranging in the woods with the chickens. Pretty cool, now I have a pair of turkeys to feed. I don't really mind at all. I'm raising a 41 year old son, a 6 year old grand daughter, and just got custody of my 4 year old grandson last week..........the last 2 pics are Elena, got to keep this gun related ya know........I start them early here!......

"Finally got the wife to stop using debit card and pin number. CC is better for dispute." +2 I haven't had a debit card ever, use CC only. I'm the customer they hate the most, pay them off every month w/o exception so only get rewards and free chit (couple of Eotech's from Cabela's last year), never any interest charges. There are a LOT of folks out there right now putting up fake websites, and sending emails trying to get you to enter in your user name and password so they can steal it and hit you pretty hard. I just got one yesterday from Norton Anti-Virus. It asked me to call a phone number to verify the "purchase on your credit card" that was just made that they had "on file" to automatically re-new my account. Problem is that I do NOT have a credit card on file with them. I only have credit cards on file with two accounts that I've used for over 20 years now. Everyone else gets paid by credit card or Pay Pal for each transaction. I wonder how many people call those numbers and give up personal info just to get ripped off? The real chitty part of all of this is that IF you walk into United Dairy and hold them up for a cashiers drawer maybe $100 bucks or so they will hunt you down, stuff and cuff your ass and lock you up for a decade or so. You can "worm" your way into some ones bank or savings account and rip them off for ten times that amount or more and unlikely you'll even get caught nor will they do much about it if they did narrow you down as a potential perpetrator.........FWIW.......
