+2 on using a reputable vendor, gun mag warehouse, etc. I would also get a credit card for on-line purchases instead of using a bank/debit card. I spend about $20,000-30,000 a month buying parts for my business/personal items and ALL of it is on either my Cabella's or another points type Visa credit card. I've had a few issues but IF someone rips me off the money didn't come out of my bank account! My nephew has had his bank account hacked half a dozen times now using his debit carb to buy chit on-line. He eventually gets it all straightened out, but the money is still GONE initially until you do get someone to take action on it........FWIW......

I'm going to put one of those dogs on my wish-list. Good looking girl and they hate coyotes too?.......

Disconcerting is being kind. I'm fine with the turkeys hanging around as long as they want to, but rest assured if you show up here with prison quality tattoos clear up into your neck and face and a tear drop tattoo under one eye looking for a "hand-out" you came to the WRONG place!.........LOL....

Thanks, he's going to be pretty big for a Min-Pin, I'm hoping about 20-22 lbs when he's full grown. Love them mousers for sure, even better when they protect your nuts! I've had Min-Pins since 2003 and they pile up mice, rats and ground squirrels like cord wood around here. They are absolutely fearless too, and don't hesitate to whoop on just about anything that ventures onto the property here.......

Meet Samson, the latest addition to the family. He's only 4 months old but logged his first kill couple of days ago. We were scouting for ground hogs and caught a big male in the middle of a bean field cleaning out his new home. I caught him pretty good with the 10/22 and he jumped straight up in the air and tried to make it to the wood line about 100 yards away. Sadie just wasn't having it and Samson joined in on the kill. We hope to be throwing a nice litter of pups later this summer........

With turkey season coming up soon the turkeys this year decided to make it easy. A jake and hen showed up yesterday while I was feeding the chickens. They were just outside the fence. I walked over slowly and poured a big scoop of food thru the fence and they came over and started eating. This morning they are INSIDE the fence waiting for their breakfast! Just goes to show you, whether it be humans or birds, IF you provide them a free meal and place to stay they are quite likely to take FULL advantage of it!.....LOL.....

Holy shi*! 45 rounds of 45ACP, good plan especially now with the "pandemic" upon us.........IMHO.

I don't know you and we've never met, but you are member here and seem to be a "friend" of or have some sort of "association" with 98Z5V.......so happy Birthday brother............ and sorry about your luck! Seriously, have a cold one and take the rest of the day off.........Cliff

Yikes! One thing I have a lot of is primers, so not going to get bent over buying any thru all of this. Bullets is another thing, I may have to break out the molds and start casting then sizing/lubing them again. I haven't had that stuff out in at least 30 years now. What a PITA all that is, but at least I can reload and do some shooting if this hoarding continues much longer........ "I like the Arsenal because it has a machined steel receiver." Yep, the better ones were machined and barrels threaded solid into the receiver. Some of the cheaper versions didn't have chrome lined gas system/parts, barrels, etc. Shoot some cheap ammo thru one, don't clean it and it'll be locked up solid next time you get it out! Even with all that said the drilled/pinned SKS's and AK's will still go bang every time you pull the trigger, and that is typically good enough for most folks who own one. I can't imagine a black rifle with a pressed in drilled/pinned barrel.........

"The only gun I run steel case 7.62x39 in is my Arsenal AK type. That thing will digest anything! Never a jam or FTF or FTE." +2 I had an older Chinese AK-47, finally cut it loose a few years ago after filling the gun safe with black rifles. The AK NEVER did anything but go bang every single time you pulled the trigger. Didn't much give a chit about the type of ammo, or if you ever bothered to clean it or not. No wonder you see so many of them in use around the World, I used to call them "peasant proof" when I was deployed where we saw a LOT of them!.......

Not really a big fan of steel case ammo but at least it's available for under a dollar a round. I have an AR-47 (7.62 x 39 AR-15 build) and when I take it to the range I also take along a solid steel rod to drive the stuck cases out if/when they occur. Typically it runs flawless with steel case ammo but every once in a while it will jam SOLID and the only way to get the bolt back and case out of it is with a steel rod and BFH. I had some Wolf steel case 5.56 ammo about 15 years ago and had a couple of issues with it in several of my AR-15's so I never went that direction again. Nothing major, but anytime I get a jam or malfunction for any reason I start to not trust that weapon and IF it's the ammo I'm DONE with that ammo....period, end of story. Same thing with pistols. I've owned at least half a dozen small auto pistols in both 380 and 9mm and ended up with a Hellcat. It absolutely runs anything you throw at it, 100 percent, all the time, and never grumbles once. ALL the others I owned would have issues just often enough I wouldn't carry them as a my secondary weapon for any reason. I like the Hellcat so much it's now my primary weapon since it nearly the capacity of much larger 9mm auto pistols......

Agreed, good video, makes sense. However no mention of prices once things "settle down" some. Hoarding has caused this more than "new gun owners" or new shooters, hunters, etc. It appears that no matter how much the prices go up any ammo that becomes available is going to sell. I'm sure the "bean counters" at all of the ammo manufacturers are looking at that fact pretty hard and will make efforts to not only maximize production, but profits at the same time.......

Thanks for the kind words......

"Yeah I miss the military every single day but there are give and takes, especially with the way the world is today" +2 Retired back in 2003, had a good run at it and got to do some cool chit, but I was ready for a change after 20 years. I took my training and experience and moved forward never looking back. Took a course in forensics and started doing CSI work here back in 2005. Absolutely LOVE it. I never get any complaints either, one of the advantages of working with folks who were recently deceased vs the ones that made it!....LOL....

Converting from adjustable stock to fixed stock.
Cliff R replied to Thorud74's topic in General Discussion
I converted or used A2 stocks on all of my 308-AR's. That was quite a few years ago but I used the stock buffer tubes and outfitted them with DPMS springs and buffers. Right, wrong or otherwise all those rifles are flawless for function. I found these part numbers on one of the orders but not sure if these parts are still available? DPMS LR-308 Buffer Rifle 308-BS-11 1 22.00 DPMS LR-308 Buffer Spring 308-BS-10B 1 8.00 This was done WAY before I found this site so not sure if these parts will work for what you are doing, but they work fine in all three of my rifles and each one is from a different manufacturer........ -
I may end up doing that. We just checked our local sources again yesterday and jars are showing up but no lids anyplace.....
-
Hoarding is driving everything up. Try to find some canning jar lids. I'm out and haven't been able to get any locally for at least 6 months. I guess Rural King got a delivery of them in a while back and allowed ONE customer to buy the entire pallet. I'm sure that center of uranus is selling them on Ebay at a nice mark-up.......FWIW.....
-
Went to Rural King again this morning to pick up some chickens and they had more 22 ammo in stock. This time it's $7.99 a box instead of $1.99...WTF? I did a double-take on that one. That's quite a mark-up since I was in there last Thursday!.....

Stock triggers can end up all over the map for pull, creep, roughness, etc. Once in a while you'll get one that is decent but for the most part they aren't that great and certainly no where near where you will need one to be for best accuracy/tightest groups even locked down pretty hard bench rest shooting. I "re-work" my own here but have decades of experience with that sort of thing (Military SAI for 20 years) and used to shoot on a Military rifle team so used to working with the stock parts. I guess for the do-it-yourselfer there is money to be saved and with enough practice you can end up with excellent results (plan on buying a few spares to get you thru the learning curve). Even with that said reducing "creep" goes well beyond just lightening spring tension and polishing mating parts, you will need to remove material as well. That's where the monkey wrench gets thrown into the mix as reducing engagement of the parts on this type of platform can reduce reliability and margin of safety. Mostly for that reason I recommend just buying a good trigger as recommended above right to start with. The price of the LaRue is very attractive and although I've never tried one they get raving reviews, and likely why they are not able to keep up with orders. This COVID thing has done that to a lot of companies, so much so that it's been pretty much a full time job for me to keep stocked up on parts I sell here since this "pandemic" started. Not to get off on a rant but a LOT of companies have suffered since this started, where others have flourished. I'm one of the lucky ones, have been so busy I don't have time to reach around and scratch my ass most days, and running 2-3 days behind filling orders off the website, even starting at 4am and working all day long. Yah, I know, it sounds great but rest assured "Obiden" and company will find a way to take my money and give it to the bottom feeders so they can bridge the gap between those that work and those that lay around waiting for a hand-out.....FWIW......

Rural King had 22 ammo yesterday, $1.99 for 50 rounds, limit 2 boxes. I'll bet the ammo makers are stock piling as hard as they can to drive the prices up. Makes sense to me, why make so much when you can sell it for 4--5 times what you were getting for it a year ago. I had to break my piggy bank open to buy the 22 ammo yesterday after looking at my investments for last month and filling up the Duramax at $3.50 a gallon before I went to the store. Ya, those folks who voted this idiot in office need to leave those signs up so I know where to siphon my gas for my lawn mowers this summer!....LOL......
-
Tks, I'm pretty fond of mine too...... I carry it every day as well, even at work (CSI)......

+2 All of my friends carry and not single one of them would ever shoot anyone who doesn't need to be shot. Good read above.

"I have been trying to lure you guys here for years the hunting is awesome!" Hunting in most of the Western States, at least for big game is NOT user friendly for us (coming from out of State). It's gotten so complicated these days (takes many hours to read and somewhat understand the regulations) that it's difficult if not nearly impossible to free lance a hunt in Colorado, for example. Oh, you can do tons of research, and even get some inside info, as there are still some areas where you can purchase over the counter bull tags, but it really takes quite a few trips into any area to figure things out and hunting on Public land is ALWAYS a crap-shoot. Some States also require a guide into "wilderness areas", so that puts us out or hiring an outfitter since we don't have any contacts. Anyhow, a bit off topic so I'll save my lack of enthusiasm for that topic for another place and time, but we still love to go and have been for over 20 years now, even if we spend a good bit of time walking for miles seeing nothing, trout fishing, sitting around a camp fire telling lies and drinking copious amounts of bourbon!..........Cliff
