Most important components to pair up in 308 build
willbird replied to bootsector's topic in General Discussion
Or even the Enhanced upper and hand guard. The enhanced rail is BAR pattern which is a somewhat standard interface. After much agony I settled on the enhanced upper and rail and I have not regretted it one moment. If your not going exotic with a $200-$300 rail the Aero stuff is really neck and neck for weight with other offerings in the same $$ range IMHO. Bill -

IMHO the very best drills I have ever used were Titex and Ghuring...but those are not what people typically mean by "import". 🙂 Bill -
Can a AR-15 armorers wrench be used for anything on a AR 308?
willbird replied to nexgen91's topic in AR .308 Tools
The only aero M5 upper I have is an enhanced, and for sure a standard ar15 wrench worked on it because I do not have anything else yet :-). -

It will work on the inverted barrel nut on an Aero enhanced M5 upper. -
Wal-mart making BIG GUN CHANGES
willbird replied to 98Z5V's topic in Firearm Industry News and Gossip
For generations they provided an end run around retail, plus ran retail stores too, more than one had their own rebranded guns cheaper at retail than any gun store's wholesale price typically. Smaller business can still do well if they provide service, but most of them "can order it for you"....well hell I can order it for me, and be sure the proper thing was ordered ;-). Many of our small business drive to sams club to buy supplies rather than use the restaurant suppliers. Business is business. Get politically active with the profits in a way that kills my freedoms, and I will stop shopping with you if you are big or small. Bill -

Looking at savings catcher for Q1 2019 they have lost around $6,000 a year from my household. Our money went out of county, and out of state in the bargain. -

And the anti gun libs already hate Walmart and for darn sure will not flock there to support their anti gun CEO who is speaking for the Corp. they plainly have lost sight of who their core customers are, and who they could attract as future customers. -

If I look at voters in my county that did not vote for trump I see 12,000 voters, figure at least 6,000 households. At even $100 a week for groceries that is $600,000 a WEEK, and around 31.2 million bucks a year. Yea they would feel the burn if those 6,000 house holds told them to pound sand like ours did. To me and my wife it is about the CEO statement far more than stopping the sales of some sku. As far as immoral employer practices, how can they force free people to work there ?? Short answer is they can’t, so if you stay working there it’s on you. The free market sets the value of your work but only if your welcome to use your feet to get paid better. I can choose to shop stores which are non union. They so far beat Walmart as far as having things in stock and price. Walmart stopped price matching via their savings catcher app. -
The fact that some mfg are building and selling "pistols" with "braces" that the mfg have some sort of approval on record may matter IMHO. Quite a few mfg in fact. That might be the "safest" route. IMHO I see nothing wrong with "other" recce made into "pistol" either....totally legit. Bill

Looks like you can rent go and no go from reamerrentals.com for $7 and maybe that includes shipping ?? Bill

There was a court case in Ohio where BATFE lost. They measured the guys gun this way.... His Defense attorney (court appointed) measured his gun this way, the correct way. The whole article is here and honestly worth the read IMHO. https://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/atf-suffers-rare-court-loss-in-ohio-short-barrel-rifle-prosecution/

Very nice :-).

It is not a hard science really, just a way to get a rough measurement of how much headspace there is with that individual round, you would have to measure the labels you have and see how thick they are. More or less you are creating a peel washer in reverse by adding layers. It is a good method to know of you were to pick up an 8mm Rast and Gasser revolver and suspected it had excessive headspace (yes that is a real ctg hehe)...something totally off the wall that no headspace gauges are avail for. Kit build adjustment help, (headspace, Bolt catch)
willbird replied to tapcaf's topic in General Discussion
FWIW I used a Gen I stripped upper to build an upper for my PSA complete lower and it worked fine. IMHO the actual differences are cosmetic. The only reason I used it was because it was all that was avail from PSA, they had no Gen 2 avail other than complete uppers. That said they may have tightened tolerances or something between I and II that did not show up in my sample of 1. Bill -
Thank you for sharing :-). Just overall I just encourage folks to think about the whole situation:-). It still makes me ponder that people obsess about gun headspace but never give ammunition headspace a second thought 🙂 Bill
-
But if you had you taken the BCG apart and tried a ctg in the chamber and observed that the bolt itself would not rotate by hand into battery you would have known then that either that ammunition was long or your headspace was short ;-)....or some of both ;-). Bill
-
Headspace ideally should not change. The only way it can is if something is wearing rapidly, or something important is being stressed past it's yield point, both are very BAD things IMHO. IMHO you have established that it is not really really bad :-), you shot it, and it works. At this point if you were reloading your brass over and over if it was at "no go" headspace your brass would not last as long, especially if you full length sized it back to SAAMI dimensions each time. You can get a SWAG idea of how much headspace you have with your ammo of choice by putting layers of address label on the back of a loaded round (observing all safety protocols) and see how many layers you can apply until the gun will not go into battery. Far more people check their guns than check their ammo, but if you think about it if excessive headspace is a terrible danger, there are two sources of it, a "long" gun or "short" ammo. Friend was or is a Thompson Center sponsored shooter, they took guns and ammo to Canada for a hunt, got a lot of "click" with an eventual "boom" if you kept trying the rounds. The issue was indeed excessive headspace, but the factory AMMO was the culprit not the guns, the guns were perfect. Bill

Learning how to negotiate the Aero website is a good skill to work on ;-). If you dig around typically you will find that they sell what your considering as an assembled upper, so you can see how it will look, Personally I LIKE the 15" rail on a 16" barrel....only for a super light build would I trade rail estate for a few ounces lighter :-). https://www.aeroprecisionusa.com/m5-16-308-cmv-complete-upper-atlas-r-one Aero measures the 15" from the front of the receiver IMHO, which to my eyeball is pretty close to the back of a chambered round, IE a 15" rail would leave 1" of a 16" barrel sticking out :-). They are also pretty good about giving you the EXACT length as they measure it if you dig around (just an example, not sure which rail you ordered). In the linked instance a 15" is actually 14.94" and a 12" is actually 12.56. https://www.aeroprecisionusa.com/m5-atlas-s-one-m-lok-handguard

I'd buy a Faxon pencil barrel too :-). They are addictive, few if any people can own just one :-). Bill
