  1. My opinion - the babble about fast approval times is bogus. The suppressor makers are all on board the hype, as it stimulates sales. Even if they really start to deliver fast approvals, the $200 tax is still a barrier that should not be there.
  2. Even though I have the Maverick 88, I'm probably going to get one of the shockwaves for vehicle use when traveling - like to the gas station at night. 🥸 Being an older guy, I would likely go with lighter loads as well. Slugs in an RV park would really upset the neighbors!!!
  3. I've got an assortment of shells stocked: 00 buckshot, 0000 buckshot, two different levels of bird shot and slugs. Plain slugs and a Federal load with a slug + 3 00 pellets. 0000 Buckshot was recommended for general home defense; with 00 and slugs if things have really gone south. Like most, I hope that my only shooting is either at a range or a hunting excursion.
  4. Several months ago I decided that the AR-10 MIGHT not be the best long gun for defending the castle. My neighborhood is fairly dense so I was concerned about where and how far rounds would go...even if I did strike an intruder. SO, I took advantage of a great price on a Mossberg Maverick 88 12-gauge with an 18.5" barrel. Since getting this I've added a simple sling and an Esstac velcro side saddle for extra shells. Next up is a light. Found a great mount for this model Mossberg at Defender Tactical. I realize that even with buckshot one has to be concerned with where all the pellets end up, but handling a 6lb shotgun in the house is definitely easier than a 12lb AR-10. Just wanted another long tool for the box. Summer's coming. 😉
  5. A few months late, but for less than the Tavor I'd probably try the Smith & Wesson M&P 12. KelTec like, but a better gun overall. https://www.smith-wesson.com/product/m-p-12 Unfortunately the price went up about $150 this year. 😞
  6. I finally decided to get a rifle back when Obama was in office. Just didn't like the way things were/are headed. At the time of Covid, everyone was buying up 556 AR's and ammo like there was no tomorrow. I found a nice S&W M&P Sport AR-10 in .308 / 7.62 NATO at a local shop on consignment. The owner was a young guy who had started with some sensible mods [Magpul stock, etc] and the price was right. Looked brand new. So, I bought that rifle and bought 308 & 7.62 every couple of weeks. This was back when it was 65 cents a round for reman stuff. I'm an old guy and wanted a semi-auto rifle that could not only reach out farther, but deliver more bang for the buck [sorry, bad pun I know] So since then I've added a scope, Blue force sling, new foregrips, an angled mount for a smallish red dot, and finally, after a 5 1/2 month wait for the Form 4 approval, an Aero Precision Lahar-3o suppressor. It weighs a hefty 13.7 lb, but then again I won't be running through the forest. this is a shelter in place gun. Have a great St. Patrick's Day....save some of your cash for bail later tonight. 😉
  7. I agree that the US appears to be way behind the curve on small drone usage. I hope I'm wrong. I recently bought Don Shift's book "Poor Man's Air Force" which is an excellent look at small drone capabilities...and defense tactics. Definitely worth having on the shelf. I keep fighting the urge to get one of the smaller units that won't require FCC registration. I live in a fairly dense residential area, so I'd probably end up using it like a periscope that can go to 300+ feet. 🙂
  8. Nice. I need something that I can manipulate with one hand. I'll check these out.
  9. I took delivery of an Aero Lahar-30 can a couple of weeks ago. The Form 4 took 5 1/2 months. FFL said this was about average. Serious foot-dragging by ATFE.
  10. Happy birthday!
  11. Good feedback. Now I'm leaning towards buying a new rifle to use up $140 worth of sub rounds. 🙂 I can get a Mossberg MVP Patrol in 7.62 for $540. [not counting all of the @#$% transfer fees. Local FFL's make sure that anything you order in is no longer a bargain. 😉
  12. Love that group photo. I totally missed .308 day 🙂
  13. While I was waiting for the Form 4 approval for my Aero Precision can - Lahar 3- - I saw the 7.62x51 Subsonic 200 Grain FMJ Sellier Bellot Ammo on a certain website. I stopped reading at "subsonic". After looking at this thread, I went back and learned another lesson about reading the fine print: "Subsonic 7.62x51 ammo will not cycle semi-auto rifles due to the required pressure reduction to slow the velocity to subsonic speeds" In truth it wasn't fine print...it was bold....I just didn't look far enough. So now that I have the can for the S&W AR-10 [M&P Sport] - I can look forward to having a "straight pull bold action rifle" 🙂 I'm kind of glad I just bought 140 rounds. Or maybe I can just add a 7.62 x 51 bolt rifle to the collection. 🙂
  14. -8 this morning; headed to a high of 3+ !! Some snow on the way. May hit freezing by mid-week, then back down to sub zero. Not entirely unusual for Kansas, but it's getting old fast.
  15. A couple of years ago I could not conceive of ever needing an AR-10. Based on the past few months, I purchased one yesterday. It came with five extra 20-rd mags and a nice carry pouch for them. Brand new M&P-10 in the box, on consignment to a local gun store that I deal with a lot. This new addition to the little arsenal rounds out the collection for now. I feel a lot more....prepared. Living in the Greater Kansas City Area these days automatically heightens awareness. Best wishes to all. Looking forward to the forums.
