  1. I can find sites that say they have it. One requires a $300 minimum order. Others don't take credit card. One called me back asking for money over the phone. Like I'm going to do that. One wanted my first born as payment, well not really but they think it's gold, at least that's how it was priced.
  2. The end of civilization as we know it. I don't mind having it on the shelf and sharing it and I always buy in bulk. Prices only go up and I find sometimes it gets made of unobtainium. I also use it for other loads so having it on hand is just a good move IMO.
  3. None of the known reputable retailers seem to have it. I can find folks I've never heard of before who say they have it but lots of things can be stated just to scam people. Does anyone know of anyone having it and is reputable? I'm probably looking for 2 2# kegs. TIA.
  4. I didn't know a can was possible for the Garand. I have to wonder how much noise would come out the gas port and if it would be worth doing? Here's a discussion about it. https://www.glocktalk.com/threads/m1-garand-and-suppressor-silencer-anyone-combine-the-two.1588708/ Yet another discussion. Cursor way down in the link below to find links to videos.
  5. There is that. But the solution is really simple, that's what quoting a post is for. Once it's in someone elses post it can't be edited out by the butthurt person. It's pretty simple to quote a post. The reason I wrote what I did was because I had to leave my computer in the middle of an edit and it timed my edit out so that I had to post again. I really dislike people who do that (Look at me! Look at me!) and I was forced to be what I dislike. On other forums I can go back days later with more data so that it doesn't look as though I'm looking for attention. Oh well. Here I have to do that. Sorry I wrote about the forum failing. But what gave me that impression is that I think I saw forums that hadn't had a new post in years. Maybe it was somewhere else. BTW, could you read the frustration in my post? 🙂
  6. What a ridiculous forum that times out on an edit! Here's the rest that should have been above. No wonder the forum is failing. A jackass was a member and his effect has continued to be an issue. Insanity! By all means, assume all of us are the same as the jackass. I'll tolerate it for a short time until heads are pulled out of asses. edit: thanks for that video! BTW, while today we may have forgotten what we did for the French in WW2, as of '70 they didn't. Our platoon visited Normandy in '71 and the ladies at the Airborne museum in St. Mere Eglise nearly soiled their panties. It's a small farming town, so read nothing into that, good folks. My point is that the French 50 years ago were grateful for what we did. I gather that they still are today from what I've seen. But they are our people (1 of the 12 tribes, melting pot? Yeah for the 12 tribes). What a shame that we had to fight! And for what!?? Satan at work, nothing more.
  7. I guess it would have been a privilege to have known him. Why is my keyboard so blurry and why are my eyes leaking? I'd have given my right nut to have known him. THOSE folks we owe so much to! FWIW, That was the same sort of chinstrap we used from '70-'73. I'm betting that's where it came from. It worked fine! In the pic' with them standing in the plane I don't know about stress, that's the narrators take. I was in that position and we just had things to attend to, Stress? I would go to sleep on the plane before a jump. Others would joke. One character on one jump took out a baggie of vegetable soup, acted like he puked in it and then drank it. But they weren't combat jumps. I doubt any of us would have acted different in a combat jump since each jump put our lives on the line (and we got paid combat pay) and we all had our mental escapes. Just do what we were trained to do and come out OK, and look out for each other. Prejump commands had that built in. edit: thanks for that video!
  8. I no longer get all "comparing this and that". Since I'm not an operator and never even played one on TV I just want something serviceable. I don't spend a lot and they work just fine. Just gotta read the fine print. I have purchased crap and they are used for larger slung flashlights. These work fine for me and don't break the bank. Buy when they're available. They aren't available now. I've purchased a number of these at least twice. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N75HB15/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  9. In agreement with many others. I'm generally not a fan of single point slings but for my little guy I have one there. It's only there to hold the firearm should the need arise for me having both hands free. Not likely until the threat has been proven neutralized and everything is clear.
  10. Definitely not subsonic, and it definitely wouldn't be used with a can.... I just got to brainstorming and means LOOK OUT! When I get around to loading .32/20 again, and playing with loads, I have some .30 sabots and some 33(?) or are they 35 grain(?) .22 bullets. I wonder how fast I can push them? And how wildly fast a burn rate I'll need to use to get them there? In a .308 handgun with a far too fast powder for .30 bullets I got 55grain bullets up 3600 fps. I never got much better than 3" at 100 yards and the mfgr told me that was about all I could expect, so while an interesting loading project I scrapped the load. Blast was impressive. Yet another project for a cartridge that I have no real use for, except for kicks.
  11. The great missing bullet caper has been solved. It finally dawned on me that the container I had them in is empty. So today that finally settled in and I looked in my loaded ammo. Sure enough there they were. I don't remember load testing them and I would have had to do that. Aging is so much fun! Like soft serve joey, I too can hide my own Easter eggs!
  12. Yeah, my only 300BLK is an AR. My .32/20 is a Contender (.308 bore) and should be fine with it. I tend to think of them as the same cartridge even though they are very different. BTW, that was a good video.
  13. Good video, well done! They sound like my .223 butterfly fart loads in the Contender. You probably had this happen... when I shoot it at the range I've had people come over from an adjacent range because they can hear the tink as steel is hit, but no bang. Anyway, yes, that's what I'm looking for in the .32/20 Contender. But I just got in a NOE 150 mould. The bullet shape is the same. I figure one mould and use it for the "pfft" loads and also load them supersonic for the AR.
  14. OK, so Trail Boss is out for the 300BLK. Maybe it'll work in the .32/20.
  15. Thanks gents! I'm so glad I decided to go with the lightweight option dpete. When I was deer hunting I too picked my shot instead of shooting at the entire deer. "Aim small, miss small."
  16. Not currently on order, but in testing. I ran across a new technique for shooting certain specific handguns by rising the red dot and cheeking it as seen in the video below. Specifically in my case a Keltec CP33. I was dubious at first, but I had parts to get it done and it's a stable shooting platform done that way. To get it done I had to remove the arm brace and that also got rid of my field expedient (but long term) method of slinging the handgun. But one of the videos (below) that I watched had a solution. The CP33 has these tiny things on each side at the back. What are they for? I haven't a clue! But there is a company making camera slings and the attachment "cables" work fine and the sling is of high quality. It came in, has been installed, and it works fine. Previously I would sling the handgun with it's arm brace and not even know that it was there. This is even lighter. FWIW, there are lots of videos about the technique on youtube. I need to practice live fire, but in dry fire it sure does seem to work. Cheek shooting technique, yes it's definitely weird, without a red dot it couldn't work for me or maybe anyone else: The sling, yeah, it's different too and not intended for firearms but works for the CP33: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0781QV3H4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I know that soft serve joey has ATF on doing something evil with arm braces and I figured I had the option of SBRing the handgun but ATF has enough of my $. This technique keeps the handgun a handgun, no SBR tax needed.
  17. Welcome to the forum! What a bummer that it can't run handloads!
  18. I forgot that I can't leave and come back to edit a post on this forum. So I'll ask my question here. Sorry, this post has me demonstrating that I can write endlessly. But I'm leaving it as is. How much penetration did you get with that Maker load? I'm just curious. I can't get out into the woods anymore so it's not a hunting question. If I shot a deer in the morning it would take me until the next day to drag it out. Aging and everything that comes with an aging body isn't for sissies. I'm using the 85 gr Maker because I don't want an exit if I ever need to use them for HD. If one graphs the depth of penetration based on velocity it's a bell curve, penetration increases as velocity increases and becomes less once one goes past a threshold. I forget the numbers but @2300fps and 1000 ft/lbs I would expect the bullet to stay in a 2 legged maggot at HD distances. I know I wouldn't want to be hit by one. But then I wouldn't want to be hit with a .22 rimfire short. Accuracy with them is fine, <1" @ 50 yds. Much better than I need. Paper punching... I cast a few hundred 220s last fall, had them all ready to load and was just waiting to develop a load. I must have put them in a very safe place to prevent riff raff from finding them and walking off with them. Only now it turns out that I'm the riff raff. I can't find them. I also got a new mould for 150s. I'll cast a mess of them and the plan is to load them both super and subsonic. But it depends on performance. I'd like to get a load or loads that I can use for an unsanctioned match that is said to be an ongoing yearly event. I'd like to use my arm braced 300BLK handgun for it. Last year some targets were out near 200 yards, so supersonic would be great. I'm trying to remember what powders I have that would be suitable, W296, Lil'Gun, N120, a small amount of A1680, Trail Boss, and I think I've seen data for Power Pistol, and another that escapes me. I should be able to work something up. 4227 I don't have. Mags... When I built my handgun I saw 300BLK Lancer mags for the same price as 5.56 mags and wanted more 5.56. So I bought the 300BLK specific mags and that freed up 5.56 mags. My understanding is that they have stronger springs and the offending ribs have been moved or are totally gone. I examined them and compared. I just forget what I saw. Would I use them for 5.56? No. Oh well, enough rambling.
  19. Thanks. That's nice expansion even at that velocity. My loads will definitely be different. I don't have 4227. But I have other powders that I can use.
  20. I can't remember ever seeing 300BLK for under $1 per round.
  21. dpete, is that a Maker bullet? I think I recognize the 3 petals. If so I load his 85 grain bullet to 2300 fps to limit penetration but maximize ft/lbs for HD. But anyway, interested in the bullet and load data for subsonic.
  22. Welcome from central Maine!
  23. I would have preferred to edit the above, but that isn't an option, so a new post. Everything is back in place and where it should be. But w/o subsonic ammo the combo of handgun and suppressor is going nowhere (for now) since the can is only rated for subsonic. 300BLK first, toys later.
  24. Not most for sure. Gents, this will be different, so brace yourselves. For your consideration, yes I was skeptical too! Not every handgun will allow this hold. Know that coming in. I have a cp33 that was arm braced until yesterday afternoon. I removed the brace and converted it over to OEM. The shooting platform is steady done this way. At least in dry fire. I have not put live rounds through the handgun yet. Yes, the sight is best when raised up about 2" but I didn't do it with a $100 riser as suggested in the video. I had stuff on hand that was much less costly that did the job. I used the same red dot I had been using right along. I intend to take it to a steel challenge match to test it out. I couldn't do that with the CP33 arm braced and not SBRed. But they allowed me a test run. It was faster than my present SBR .22 but I wasn't going to pay the tax to make it permanent. This cheek weld requires no tax and it's extremely stable done right. BTW, he doesn't much like the CP33, but some folks know how to make guns work and others don't.... They also don't know pf the public forums where it's explained how to fix the issues. Nothing more needs to be said. Mine works fine with eccentricities that I know to expect and know how to work around them.
  25. The barrel was delivered. SSK looks to have done good work and they crowned the barrel as well. Kudus to SSK! Tomorrow I'll reassemble everything, but since it's a range toy and other things are ahead of it don't expect data until I get my 300BLK up and running with it's loads. I did lose the threaded hole for the front sight, but I expected that and since I can't use iron sights anymore so while it's a loss, it's really no loss. This barrel uses an optic 100% of the time.
