  1. Thanks! That's good data 98Z5V! The heaviest bullet data I could find was 150 grain. Did I already write that? Anyway, for those who don't know, when the velocity is capped the only way to get more energy into the bullet is to up the bullet weight. My barrel is on the brown truck for delivery very soon. Then I can reassemble the handgun.
  2. But it is .308 in my barrel even if in a 140 year old cartridge. If not OK just delete it. Not a big deal. Not a new gun or barrel, in fact the barrel is probably close to 30 years old. It's a Contender in .32/20 and designed to use .308 bullets. Back then barrels weren't normally threaded. I sent it out for threading because I wanted a 300BLK barrel for the Contender but didn't want to spend the $400ish that was wanted. Then remembered the gun safe and the .32/20 barrel. It should sorta be similar to the 300BLK in performance esp' since I'm now loading for subsonic so it would be my "300BLKish" cartridge in a quiet action. I don't intend to push things. I have a mould for 150grain bullets and 220 gr bullets, and other bullets on the shelf and on hand. My supersonic .32/20 load pushes a 125 gr bullet to under 2000fps but I don't shoot many of them and my can isn't rated for supersonic loads. I have a mould for 220s should I wish to go that heavy. But frankly I have no real use for the cartridge so 150s might be fine for plinking. Anyway, UPS tells me that tomorrow it will be back in my hot little hands and I'll be able to reassemble things and other than other projects in front of it, it being on a back burner, I can start to get going on it. Oh, so why didn't I just buy a 300BLK barrel? I priced them out at $400ish and I couldn't find a factory barrel. I did consider rechambering the .32/20 but I have lots of brass so why not use it? At my age I'll die before I use it up. If anyone has load data for heavy subsonic loads (150, 200, 220) I'd appreciate having it.
  3. Yeah. It was my way of downplaying it. I hate a mushy chest. Never had one but I just know I wouldn't like it.
  4. Thanks! That reinforces my belief that the 10.3" barrel for my HD handgun is one of the 2 optimum for my usage, but 8" also would have also worked for me and made for a smaller handgun. Or put into other words getting the most I can while not having an overly long handgun when the can is on it which is pretty much 100% of the time. Except when I'm developing a load, then it wears a blast forwarder just in case of bullet instability. I could have had a handgun with a 12" tube if I had gone with an 8" barrel, since the can adds another 4" to it. If I built it for hunting I would have gone with a longer barrel. I'm actually surprised that 3" more barrel yields that much more velocity. (5" vs 8"= 318 fps but that's what the "book" states in general for rifle barrels) Would I want to be hit by a bullet out of the 5"? No. I think it would hurt.
  5. Dittos what Blue wrote. The magnifier statement is BS as you surmised; the reticle should be clear with or without the magnifier. No wonder the place is going belly up. When Eotechs first came out I bought one, liked it and bought another. I didn't need the armor so I removed it from the first one. I removed it from the second one also. The holes on the first one were threaded with matching screws. The second had self tapping screws and one was stripped. I called Eotech to discuss their lousy assembly and wad told that what I was holding in my hands didn't exist. Basically, don't believe my lying eyes. I stopped buying them and returned the one I had. I have no use for a company whose techs lie. I even told him that I had the parts in my hands, but it made no difference to him. No, what I was seeing didn't exist. I've moved on to other red dot sights and they also get much better battery life than Eotech.
  6. Welcome to the forum from the real central Maine! (Southern Maine is NOT central Maine! But they want to get us to think they're "us". They aren't.) PCS= permanent change of station? (PCS that can change again?) Correct?
  7. Welcome to the forum from central Maine! Fingers crossed that it works for you from the get go.
  8. Dittos what 98Z5V wrote, the 300BLK is an amazing cartridge. I would have accepted baseball size groups at 50 yards for my intended use, but instead got 1" and smaller groups from my 85gr bullets @ 2300 fps @ 50 yards with my AR handgun. But I'm not done with load development. I never thought the cartridge would be this amazing. I just wanted it to take the place of a 12 ga shotgun for HD and I got so much more.
  9. Even though it may look like a rifle it's actually a handgun unless registered as a SBR. Please don't give ATF additional fuel for their unconstitutional acts. FWIW, whenever I allow someone to handle my AR handgun, I explain that even though it may look similar to a rifle, it's actually a handgun by definition. I do that 100% of the time.
  10. Glad it's workin' out for you DPete! Sounds good!
  11. Looks good! It certainly is small!
  12. Nice!
  13. I never knew such a thing existed.
  14. Looks like a fun gun! Big poop eatin' smile on my face the second I saw the upper. For sure you'll have plenty of gas to run it. Please keep us in the loop. Yeah, I'd do the can thing. I think you'll want it with that short barrel. I don't think that short birdcage will do squat. Have you considered a folding buffer tube adapter? It will slightly lengthen the buffer and make for a very small handgun when folded. IMO that gun just cries out for one. A folding firearm that short when folded would be absolutely wild! Just curious, do you have a chrono' to check velocity? Inquiring minds want to know the data.
  15. Too funny! Who is Wendy Williams? Never mind. I just did a 'net search. She's gotta be mentally ill if she believes that.

  17. I've been thinking about it... When it was on the top of the handguards sighting it in was easy, up was up and left and right the same, but it took away some of the sight picture, hence the move. I intend to make it shoot within it's usable range with the offset as measured at the muzzle. If the SHTF that offset will be meaningless as there will be other issues adding to the offset. So if I turn the rifle at 45° so that the laser has "normal" adjustments it should make it easier for my old brain to adjust to sighting it in. At any appreciable distance I don't plan on using the laser anyway as a first option, the light maybe. The laser will be adjusted for my supersonic load, or that's the plan. It should be sub minute of dirtbag for HD. For in the house use now it's already close enough. For any distance (I hope it never comes to that) I have the red dot zeroed for point blank range. But one is none and 2 is one, so I'd like to get more out of the laser if possible. Hence not collimating it to coincide with the sight. The way I plan on it'll always be off and if needed I'll compensate, but how critical is an inch? I compensate all the time anyway in competition, so it's no big deal. I just "aim off" a bit to get my A zone hits. The heart is a fairly large target at close range, so is the brain.
  18. Welcome to the forum from central Maine! Nice build, glad to hear you're happy with it.
  19. Changed the configuration a bit... I don't move rapidly. I make small moves, test them and either keep them or reject them. My original intent was to have my hand out on the fore-end and the arm brace tucked under my arm. The use of a laser/light would be used for sighting for HD and hopefully never needed for clearing my own home. But rear switch on the laser/light moved my hand from the end and back onto the fore-end. I never want to take the chance of anyone getting leverage on me however remote the possibility is. But my hand had to be positioned there to operate the switch. Today I fiddled with the pressure pad switch to see if I could rig it suitably. I also moved the laser/light onto a 45° side mount to get it out of the sight picture entirely. All of those changes make it soooo much better IMO. I was concerned that the cable would annoy me by being in the way but where it is is completely out of the way. What a PITA to sight in the laser mounted on the 45° offset mount! It's close enough for inside the home distances. But clearly I don't think in anything but vertical and horizontal directions.

  22. Interesting post, thanks! We are planning on having an outlaw match every year, NFA items welcome, and I plan to use my 300BLK arm braced handgun at some point. It should be fun. But I also need to develop a load and figure out my hold overs. I'll probably use 147gr bullet pulls at first and load them supersonic . It might not be ready for this years spring match. I might also get a mold and cast light bullets that I can drive supersonic. Nothing is settled yet. Last match saw close range USPSA stages with reduced targets and also shooting out to 230 yards. I like the 300BLK. I think the problem folks have with it is that they either have no use for it or don't understand what it does (what it's for). But for those who do it's a really nice cartridge.
  23. Thanks gents. I think that's what I'll do.
  24. The instructions state to check the o rings regularly. No o ring specs stated. I contacted the manufacturer, no response. I'd like to have o rings on hand. Do you know the specs? It sux to have a manufacturer not support their product. That's the pits. Maybe thety went belly up? IDK. But why else would a manufacturer not tell a customer what the spec is for a part that they state needs to be checked?
