  1. PS. Rumor has it that Barnes is making a new 125gr for the 300Blk. It's supposed to rival the 110gr that won everyone's heart last year.
  2. I always have Barnes envy when others are loading TTSX
  3. This is the device I grabbed... http://www.cobratacsystems.com/collections/muzzle-brake-devices/products/ar-223-banshee-can-muzzle-brake-pressure-reducer-1-2x28-pitch-thread I'm sure it's the same design. As for what I expect... Not much more than a magnum pistol. I'll bet I'm still near 2k fps with the lighter loads. Considering a 9mm or 357sig is 1300-1500 fps, I think a .30 cal pill will still perform at a lethal capacity. The 7.62x25 was plenty deadly enough. Depending on how well the platform works out I do expect it to outperform a standard pistol. I'm not so jaded to think this is a substitute for a rifle. If I could actually have an SBR I'd definitely go for a 10.5-12.5 inch rifle. As it stands, this build will be two parts. The 7.62x39 you see above, and a second upper I plan on using for work. The second will likely be the 5.56x45 Mk18 or BCM 11.5". (if I could have a suppressor, I'd get the 300Blk, 2-in-1, short barrel/suppressor combo)
  4. PS. The new 7.62x39 ammo (even the surplus stuff) ain't what it used to be. Both the 16" rifles I recently built are holding around 2" groups with steel case ammo... sometimes better with better ammo.
  5. Don't mistake this as a hunting or target build. At $200 per 1k rounds, this is 100% intended to be a "fun gun". This has a second purpose of being a carry piece. Meaning strictly two legged targets. Optimal range being sub 50 yards and a maximum range being 100-150. I hate using the acronym but if SHTF, this will be one hellofa shooter. I want an AR I can throw in my small backpack and have with me when I'm out with the family. I want to to carry enough punch to handle anything I confront within CQB range... If they're any further away than that, I have room to run away. Don't mistake this as the average, run-o-the-mill, type of pistol either. I'm tiptoeing the SBR line so close, I have to shave twice a day just to keep from crossing the feds. I'm no Travis Haley, but if that SOB can whack steel at 700+ meters with an 8" subsonic 300Blk, I think I'll manage for what I have intended.
  6. My pistol parts have slowly been trickling in. I'm being very picky about quality and construction on this. This is going to be my backpack gun, and travel ever where with me. Here's a little sneak peek. . 7.5" melonite 7.62x39 barrel with Krink style brake. Update: 11/07/2017 • ASA Side Charge Upper • Adams Arms Pistol Length Piston (low profile) Kit • Vltor CASV-M Handguard (discontinued) • Vltor CASV Front Sight, w/ Blitzkrieg sight post • Troy rear (FDE) Battle Sight I don’t remember ANYTHING about the barrel, other than it was 8” 1:10 CMV with a melonite finish. It also had a “M4” contour, making it lighter than most other options available the the time. The muzzle device is an all steel, 4-piece “Krinkov” style comp. It works very similar to the Noveske KX3/KX5 muzzle devices, but with a Russian attitude. The 4-piece are very hard to find. Most options are 2 or 3 piece, or the very inexpensive 1 piece (which is just a blast redirector). This bastard weighs a TON, and totally defeated my idea of being a backpack accessory.
  7. Who's proud of theirs? Wife bought me a new one for my birthday. I love her more and more. Emerson CQC-15
  8. When I was working graveshift there were no gals in our office at the time. As a courtesy to your fellow partners, you only drop trousers in the women's locker room. All signs... errr, most signs of trespassing are gone by the time the first office gal gets in. A word to the wise. If you do use the women's head, remember there are no gun or car mags to read. As you look around you will generally only see some kind of TP dispenser, a can of air freshener and a closed metal box affixed to the wall.... whatever you do, DO NOT OPEN THE METAL BOX!
  9. Surplus ammo isn't gov't reject ammo. It's extra ammo by the manufacturer that isn't bought under contracts. Mil doesn't "return" ammo. If a unit is allotted "X" amount of ammo for training or deployment, none of it returns. Otherwise, if they did, They wouldn't get the same amount on the next go around. The surp ammo you buy in the store has the same QC as the Mil gets. Mil surp ammo is the same stuff the guys in green are shooting all over the world. Unless the stuff is ancient or corroded, there's no worries about blasting the stuff.
  10. Yup... at least that's what Bushmaster says.
  11. Does this mean I can just email you my orders directly? Lol Do you get a better deal than their "dealer" prices?
  12. I had a momentary thought to jump ahead of the 6.8 train. Thought maybe it'd take off in popularity. Well it kinda did, and it still might, but not enough right now. Ammo was going to kill me too, especially since I don't reload. It's a great round. The fact that LWRC and Colt are investing so much money into it almost guarantees it's longevity. I think 2 or 3 other militaries have already adopted the cartridge. As soon as surp ammo hits the market, 6.8 rifles are going to flood the market.
  13. If Gray backs out, let me know. I'm pushing to use my .308 on duty for a new DMR team the CoP wants to start.
  14. Open that GB hole to .125! It'll work... and you'll be the first!!! LOL Ok, a 16" rifles length barrel will still be pretty BADASS. I'm still all about the dimpling or spiral fluting.
  15. Is it the standard "SSA" or the "SSA-E"?
  16. And if you're doing a can... you need the MAMS.
  17. Cut to 14.5" and spiral fluting!!!!! Whoohoo!!! (W/ pinned device of course)
  18. Oooooooh, I like the way you think.
  19. I'm one of those "if it ain't broke..." kind of guys. Don't get me wrong though. I own a piston rifle, and it shoots real good too. I built it just to say I built one. I have a second piston build in the works now, but it's for the very dirty 7.62x39. I wanted a cleaner shooting rifle if I plan on shooting nasty Red Army surplus ammo. I have a DI 300Blk 14.5" with a carbine gas. It shoots like a dream.
  20. I just sold my Moss 835 (standard wood) for $250. That was twice what I paid for it.
  21. If memory serves me right, the SP2022 was the new version of the Sig Pro. It was designed as an affordable alternative to the more expensive P226, to be competitive with Glock. They focused at low budget agencies and security companies. I'm a huge sig fan. I own a P220 Carry Elite Stainless, which I use on duty every day.
  22. That's a beauty. My $0.02... Check out the Magpul MOE+, and think about replacing the A2 hider. Of course I'll recommend the BABC first, but the PWS FSC30 and the Lantac 7.62 Dragon are affordable options
  23. How do you like that MFT minimalist stock? I'm thinking about one of those for my wife's patrol rifle. Her rifle is going to break me.
  24. I wonder if we can talk Roger into naked receivers???
