  1. I just slammed a brand new LR-20 mag into my rifle for the first time. The whole point of this build was to be as lightweight as possible. I built my dpms compatible 308 with the concept of using the polymer magazine. Needless to say, I was more than upset to see my magazine wobbled front to back in the magwell. Not just a little wiggle, but almost a half inch range of movement from front to back. I ran to the Internet and typed in my problem. I found a guy on CalGuns.net who had the same problem and already did the follow up with JD Machine regarding the problem. He mentioned how his rifle failed to feed unless he was holding the mag in place, or resting his mag on a bench. JD says their 308 is NOT designed to work with the Magpul LR20, and they actually suggest C-product mags. Unless I can figure a way to remedy this, I will be researching a new build soon.
  2. My argument for the 10mm: 200 grains out of a 14"-16" barrel will achieve approximately 1800-1900 fps. Putting out approximately 1500 foot-pounds of pig thumping force. My build is specifically for a <100 yard shot on a very stalwart animal. The 308 would work fine (and it has worked fine for me for years). I'm tired of the over penetration at close range and the loss of meat with a bone hit.
  3. A friend of the family has a Colt Delta Elite in 10mm with a two or three digit serial number. I have been trying to get it from his safe for years. He has no children, so I'm banking on the inheritance. I was thinking of converting my Springfield TRP Operator into a 10mm. The cartridge is hotter than Jessica Alba. If I could make my AR shoot 44 mag I would. I have no interest in the 458 bushmaster or 50 beowolf. Especially when they are $2+ a shot!
  4. I made a run to my local gun shop with my wife. While there I picked up a couple LR20 mags for about $18 a piece. My wife asked, "I thought you wanted me to buy those for your birthday?" I smiled at her and replied, "you just did!"
  5. Most rear furniture (grips and stocks) fit on the 308 models. Those that don't fit, just need a little persuasion frpm a dremmel. Handguards are a little trickier, but quite a few guys have shoe-horned their 308's into a MOE. As for trigger guards, most 308 model AR's come with fixed trigger guards. They are usually already shaped to the similar bend of the Magpul, allowing ease of use from a gloved finger. The only difference between the 7.62 and 5.56 versions of the PRS stock, is the size of the cheek piece. The 7.62 needed a longer pull for the charging handle. If you have a side charging 7.62, you can use either PRS stock.
  6. Big Reno Show Go back in time and visit the Old West. 7. So I saw that Oly Arms has done a one-up on their old design of the Oly K10. They now have their own magazines that will fit a standard AR-15 lower receiver. I did a bit of homework on this gun and I am excited to say that I should be bringing one of these babies home to play with soon. I know I haven't even finished my 308 yet... but you guys understand my situation. I was actually feeling left out since I only had one project in the works. The Oly K10 comes with a 16" barrel, flat top receiver, A2 front sight, mil carbine handguard and a flash hider. It is a gas blow back system, so I don't think I have to worry about the gas tube. My plan is to cut the barrel down (since I don't think it is chrome lined) to about 14ish inches and re-thread for the flash hider. I gotta have that Cali required 16". If I'm right about the gasblock just being for decoration, I'm going to ditch the A2 front sight and toss on a VLTOR tower sight closer to the end of the barrel. I might have to shim and solder the tower sight to keep it stable on the barrel, since that portion of the barrel isn't designed for a gasblock/sight. Last I'll wrap the barrel with a Magpul mid length handguard. Throw on a rear sight and I'll be ready to thump some pigs! I mocked up a pimpmygun design.. Here is my concept... **excuse some of the inaccuracies in the picture, I had to be creative with what I had available. Here is the Olymic Arms K10 (10mm) Carbine as it comes from the factory Coming soon!!! A light weight 10mm pig thumper. I figure as long as I keep my hunts under 150yrds (maybe 100?) I can kill porky all day long with this baby!
  8. It's on my birthday list. Hopefully the wife can see the hints I'm leaving all over the place.
  9. Woohoo! 5 new builds!!! Who was it that started a build from just a roll pin?
  10. Here's the rifle... http://redjacketfirearms.com/about/about.html I just read the spec's for their basic model.... $1849.95 for a mostly mil-spec carbine!!! You can buy a LMT carbine dressed in Magpul for the same price (maybe less). I'll bet you get more performance and a lighter weight rifle with the LMT too! I built one for my brother-in-law to use on patrol, and he loves it.
  11. I heard there is very minor fitting required. Nothing structural, just bending the heat shield so there's no rub marks.
  12. I'd like to know more about why that "katana" is so good. I wasn't impressed with the first glance. It's all marketing instead of purpose. He wanted a lightweight battle rifle with 100% reliability... And that is the design he came up with?? I'm scared to think of what he's charging. Maybe engraving "Katana" on the side makes it more accurate??? IMHO. It looks like a $1,000 with a $2,000 price tag. I'd take a couple of the personal builds I've seen on this sight, long before I bought a "katana"!!
  13. MOE RIFLE LENGTH HAND GUARDS: NOW SHIPPING! The MOE Hand Guard trifecta is complete - Rifle Length Hand Guards are now shipping! Just like the carbine and mid length versions you already know, the Rifle Length MOE Hand Guard offers streamlined modularity and durability in a simple, lightweight package that won't break the bank. Made from a proprietary reinforced polymer, all MOE Hand Guards are compatible with round and triangular hand guard caps, as well as both piston and direct impingement gas systems. Mounting slots at the 6, 10, and 2 o'clock positions allow the attachment of rail sections and accessories to ensure your rifle is configured to meet your specific mission needs. THE MAGPUL DISPATCH—the best way to stay current on all things Magpul.
  14. Hahaha, Pimpmygun.doctornoob.com I've played on it a bit. I usually photo-chop my stuff to keep my custom features. Here's some that I did to help me visualize my 308 build;
  15. What "tension screw" is this?
  16. I have a MIAD on my JD 308. I find that the thicker grips don't tire my hands out as much as the thinner grips. The Tango Down and the Ergo were very comfortable, but I think I was squeezing the grip tighter because of my grip. After a while I found myself constantly stretching my hand and readjusting my grip. Just my $0.02
  17. That's awesome info! It furthers the discussion that every inch beyond the 16th inch will add approximately 25-30 feet per second. The math is right there in the proof. That still puts a .308 supersonic out to 300+ yards with a 16" barrel. I'm ok with that result. I've never had to kill anything beyond that range, besides paper... and even that is an extremely rare occasion. I'm completely sold on the 16 incher.
  18. Do you guys think the S/S extension made by SI Defense is good idea? I plan on getting their S/S FailZero BCG. I'm afraid to put in a regular steel extension against a s/s BCG.
  19. You guys were looking for an accessory for that lonely side rail http://www.knightarmco.com/bulletflight/ You know you want it!
  20. Doesn't Fulton Armory and SI Defense make their own extensions?
  21. Are you looking for harder version than the Magpul XT rail covers? I've seen guys buy the hard KAC covers and then stipple them with a soldering gun or dremmel. That makes a really rough grippy texture.
  22. Congrats on the scatter gun. I bought my first 870 about 15 years ago, and it's still my favorite. My wife wants me to find her a Browning o/u in 20ga to play with. I think I'm going to hold out for a Fidelis 12 for my next shotty.
  23. Are you comfortable spending a few coins? Mernickleholsters.com His stuff is awesome. I have a high ride hip holster for my maverick 357 derringer and a Springfield Champ Oper. I want a crossdraw for my TRP Operator. I'm 260#, so I have little/no problem concealing a 5 incher. It's just a tad too long to stuff in the front of my pants... Comfortably.
  24. Mrs Santa got me the LR-308 version of the Apex. The handguard does not come with a ff barrel nut, and it does not come with any rails. On a positive note. This thing is VERY lightweight. It is also surprisingly slim. Almost like a 223. I'm very satisfied with this sexy little piece. Now I need to find a free float barrel nut to mate it to my rifle.
