  1. I'm hoping to get off my lazy @ss and order that SI BCG in stainless this month.
  2. Shame on you guys DLSports.com That is the D&L custom stock. It fits on similar to the Ace SOCOM and ARFX.
  3. Th They are all really heavy! The PRS stock is over 2lbs. The buffer is almost a pound. Falcon grips are darn near the biggest grip you can get. If you are building a bench gun, then you succeeded. If you are humpin this stick around a mountain, you are in for a miserable afternoon. You can expect a near 20# rifle, fully loaded. You already have the barrel, so no need to get into that. I have never had a need for a bipod while hunting, other than prairie dogs. I have one on a 77/22 and on a .221 Fireball, but nothing larger than that. If you're looking for a hunter, instead of a paper killer, I say cut weight where you wont miss it. A2 stock, standard buffer, low profile gas block, standard ergo grip, ditch the tango down bipod all together. A really good muzzle brake will consume the kick all that weight was hiding. Check out the JP or PRI brakes. The Badger Ord. handguard isn't the lightest, but it is one of my favorites. Also check out the VTAC's and maybe Apex CNC. I know the excitement of having the extra long handguard, but you can cut weight by having a carbine or mid length instead. The purpose of the extra long handguard was to protect the barrel against whacking obstacles in competition (and looking cool!!) Unless your style of hunting is a LOT more high-speed and aggressive than my style, you won't need all that handguard real estate. Lastly, nothing I typed mean diddley-squat. It's your rifle, and you can say "Rob, shut your mouth. I'm building it however I want." I'm good with that option too. Whatever you decide... You must post copious pictures so we can all stare at your boom stick. It's the law. Cheers <thumbsup>
  4. Ok, so who's setting up the "group buy"? I want one, but I already planned an ABS barrel with a BABC this month. That's $1200 already spent. Maybe next month?
  5. They're finally in! http://shop.si-defense.com/product_p/009-fzar308-01.htm pretty heavy price tag though...
  6. I love it. I look forward to a detailed review of your experience.
  7. I'd be interested in one of those PM's
  8. I'm a 1911 fan. That is a trait passed down from my father, and his father before him. My grandfather carried one for 22 years in the European Theater and Korea. He said the 45 and the 30 carbine were his soul mates. My father switched his duty gun from the model 19 to a Colt commander in 1975. He's carried the same Colt for 35 years. I'm a man of the times. I carry a Sig p226 .40 on duty. Off duty, depending on where I'm going, I carry a 2 shot .357 derringer or my Colt Mustang (never underestimate a 380). To date, my favorite shooter is a Springfield TRP Operator with the full rail. So favorite, that sometimes I think I'm big enough to carry as an off duty. Once I buck season opens up, I don't look at anything beyond my collection of single action revolvers. All Colts (1st to 4th gen) and a few Rugers (for SASS). The SAA is my forever fall back pistol. From 22lr to 44mag, I love them all. I'm currently looking for a Ruger Vaquero 4-5/8" in 44mag. I had one and let it go. I thought a Super Blackhawk would sufice as a replacement. Been missing it ever since.
  9. At the time, they said they had a number of barrels on hand, in common make/caliber/length combo's. A few AR308 barrels are included. He said if I wanted an 18" barrel (ABS contoured) with rifle length gas, it was ready now. He could have it rifled (I wanted 1:11) and shipped to ABS in a week. I have no idea what the time frame is now. That was 2 or 3 months ago. They responded to all my questions very VERY quickly.
  10. http://www.rockcreekbarrels.com/ I plan on making an order from these guys after the first of the year. This is going to be my base barrel, before I get ABS to carbon wrap it. I emailed Mike Rock a few months ago and he informed me that I can choose barrel length, gas length, rifing rate and threaded/crowned end.
  11. So which one do you guys prefer? JP? PRI? Railed or low-pro? Is the Noveske "switchblock" the same as an adjustable gas block?
  12. Check them out http://jdmachinetech.com/index.html Lookin good JD! Although, I sure would love a picture of their "custom" guns fitted with one of their railed gas blocks. I just want to see if the GB rail matches up with the top rail on the handguard.
  13. The 308 specific scopes are going to cost you $$$. I know the ACOGs are running about $1700 and the Nightforce are going for over $2k. I would likely suggest something like the Leupold VX-3L CDS (or an Illum VX-7) and just learn to dial your scope for each shot. I know having the pre marked bullet drop saves time, but if you are shooting from such an extreme distance that you need the dots... then generally you have time to adjust your scope. I really only saw the need for scopes with bullet drop markings on military weapons (maybe a dog town rifle). I never felt like I needed mil-dots for any of my LE stuff or hunting. I know a lot of guys have them, I'm just saying that "I" never had a use for them. Disclaimer: I'm not saying they are a bad idea... I never saw a reason to buy a Corvette either, but it doesn't mean I wouldn't like to own one!
  14. I've been lookiong at those linear muzzle brakes... How well to they work? I'm undecided between a brake or a hybrid brake/hider.
  15. I got the tool in the mail today. It worked! I will do a complete write up later tonight. I guess I have one more thing to be thankful for tomorrow.
  16. Sorry, all gone.
  17. Tac, that's my back up plan. I didn't even know they existed till your post. I wish someone would make pins like HK. I have a G36k in my patrol car, and as much as I hate that rifle I have to admit that it is a dream to take down. Now the wait game for shipping on that elusive little extraction tool.
  18. Just an FYI for those that were wondering... The Magpul MIAD grip fits perfectly on the JD Machine 308. There is no need to buy the "Grip Wedge". Just in case you were wondering.
  19. I hate myself right now. I had my heart set on installing a MIAD grip on my JD. While tapping the hole for the take down pin screw I snapped off the carbide tap inside the hole. I'm really stuck now. The walls of the hole are too thin to drill out a larger hole. Luckily I found a tool made by WALTON TOOLS that should be able to back out the bit.... SHOULD!?!?! Like I said earlier, FML!
  20. I just got this from SI Defense; "We're working on them now and they are in production. We still have to have them mag pen, shot peened, heat treated and coated, so we're looking at around Christmas to the New Year. That would be a rough ETA. We would sure like to have them as soon as possible as well!" Cross your fingers. I'm writing my letter to Santa right now.
  21. Heres the update, and I'm in love. (identical to the AR15 design) http://www.apexcncmachine.com/store.php?seller=ApexMachiningCompany&Tsearch=308&pd=3133549 Sorry for the link, I'm posting from my iPhone There are DPMS and Armalite versions coming out. My biggest excitement is the super lightweight design!!!
  22. You Wrote: 1. Just wondering how compatible your handguard is with the LR-308 or AR-10 format rifles. 2. I have noticed a lot of manufacturers making 15" rail systems. Is there a chance Apex will go in this direction? Maybe even an Ext. Rifle Length with Cutout, simliar to the carbine model??? Our Reply: We are currently developing a 308 handguard and anticipate a release date on 11/8/10. Please revisit our website listed below. We manufacture for Blackheart a 14” rifle length rail system for the AR-15. Their website: www.bhigear.com At this time, the 15” 308 is not planned for production. 23. I like that Apex handguard, but they look like they only fit the 5.56 AR models. I shot them an email about a possible 308 version in the future. I'll keep you updated on their response. I'm very impressed with how lightweight they are. Would be nice if Apex came through with a 308 version. It looks like a MUCH cheaper alternative to the SWS E1 15" I was originally looking at.
