  1. What shoot were you here for, before? Was it 2 years ago, or 3? Which one did you make it down for, before all this bullshiit started? Fall Shoot what?...
  2. This is the ticket.
  3. Doesn't have to be John. I'll draft something up this weekend and post it here.
  4. GunTech has never made a high-profile handguard. Ever. Only Low-profile. GunTech clearly states what their .308AR profiles are. They are all listed as Low.
  5. That directly tells you where the issue is.
  6. This is exactly right, and exactly why I've been preaching this in the large-frames for so many years now. Gas Timing. This is a BALANCED effort, between the recoil system and the gas system. It doesn't matter what x-company or y-company produces. Nobody cares. Most of it is manufactured with profits in mind, foremost, making the platform as cheaply as possibly in order to make money. That means shortcuts, on large-frames. That comes in the recoil system, very first, to make it as cheaply as possible. Doing it right is $$$, and tungsten ain't cheap. Neither is stainless steel vs. aluminum, when you're looking at the body-material on a shortass 2.500" buffer. Then, they have to bastardize the gas system, in order to make a cheap recoil system "operate." They usually "operate" like shiit. First thing in one of these is "fully inspect and fix the recoil system." After that, determine in your gas system is fucked up, then fix that. Gas tube length is easy to check, and fix. You need to get tools out, and be able to accurately measure gas port diameters - then fix it if necessary.
  7. If you decide that, I'll buy that SSA-E from you. How many rounds you have under that trigger?
  8. THEN YOU DID WELL!!! You have no idea how proud I am, brother...
  9. We can draft up an "official invite" for the shoot, and make it look good, printed on some bitchin' paper, and send it to you. If that's the case... The first shoot was me and Greg. 2011. Timing and location made that one happen. The next year was the first OFFICIAL SHOOT, and we had Greg (wife), Rob (wife), @MikedaddyH and @planeflyer21 (Jon). Locals showed for that one (I took their money on shooting-bets), but that was 2012. This is the 10-yhear anniversary, OFFICIALLY, so I'm sure we can draft up something special, and "official looking" and send you.
  10. Read this - it's been active for 4 years now, several years after all this started. It'll help you gain some understanding.
  11. So, you're sayin' that in your excitement to throw him a Pants Down Hug, you just threw your rifles and ammo on the ground... I get it. That's legit. That's what I did when I saw him for the first time, too.
  12. For what it's worth, for Mods and Admins - this needs moved to a build thread. This isn't the section for it.
  13. Where's the endplate and the castle nut?
  14. Welcome aboard, George! I'll get mine stretched out a little more now, since it's just starting to get cooler here in AZ. Weather is finally breaking next week, and the mid and high '90's will be gone for the rest of the year. Nice shooting weather for the rest of the winter. I've been meaning to stretch mine out a little more, and I've got the magazine modifications down now (modified Grendel mags). I just need to run it. Have't shot much this summer, outside of monthly matches, so it's time for me to get back out there some more. I'll put the 12.5" ARC up there higher on the list, and get my build thread updated. I did change up my initial "good load" for it, because it was a speedster. I dropped the CCI 41 primers, and I'm loading regular old CCI 400s now, so I need to go back and check the load for accuracy, maybe work up more ladders and find out how it's doing, and geet chrono results to finish it up. That will all be coming pretty soon.
  15. MaineMan, that's perfect. That pic right there means that Faxon drilled your barrel to the Armalite AR-10 standard. That's exactly what it should look like.
  16. And, you can have a variance in the gauges, too - which was my whole point. Its all tolerance stacking. Compounding. THen, all the sudden, your gun doesn't work, and nobody can figure it all out... Hmmm... Seen this here before.
  17. George, make in Intro Post, and tell us about yourself. https://forum.308ar.com/forum/22-introductions/
  18. YOu have done well, brother - and beaten their system.
  19. Not all headspace gauges are the same, either. Many headspace gauge manufacturers vary by a thou here or there, over the specific caliber that they make. When checking headspace on a manufacturers barrel, and bolt - it's best to call them and ask what gauges they use to check their own headspace, if your gauges fail a bolt/barrel combo. If you're not using THEIR bolt in their barrel - they don't have to tell you shiit. Harsh reality, but it's a true reality. They have no liability outside of their own parts.
  20. That would be chaos. But it would be funny!
  21. That is the baddest LJ ever,,,
  22. 16" gun making solid hits on 630 yards targets is a good feeling. That's "confidence in equipment" right there. I love this gun.
  23. So, this match was supposed to be interesting. August match, @JBMatt cleaned the fucking course AGAIN again. Multiple times now. I missed one shot in August, from cleaning the whole course, shot my fastest time on the timed stage, and did pretty damned well for myself. I decided then... I need to make it harder. Decided at the August match that I was shooting the 16" Precision Gun for the Sep match. Well, Matty agreed@! He was gonna shoot his 16" gun, too! I show up, and he's got his damn 18" gun again... Alright, Fuqr, you SAID... Whatever... I rode the Struggle-Bus on the first stage that we shot, and hit 4 out of 9 - I dropped 5 targets on that stage. It took a minute to figure out the BDC reticle that works so amazing on my 18" gun, and applying it to my 16" gun. That stage sucked for me, and I thought the whole course sucked, thought the next 2 stages were horrible... but I only dropped 1 target on each of those next two stages. Cleaned the last 2 stages. I ended up 44 hits out of 51 targets, and that was still only good enough for something like 21st place. The talent pool is DEEP out here, for shooters... Of course, Matty smoked the whole course again, and shot the 2nd fastest time, and ended up crushing it. ALL. I just wish he would have manned up and brought his 16" gun, like he said he would, back in August... Here's the technicals, for those that like to geek out on the numbers: https://practiscore.com/results/html/6d7f6ef7-82b2-44c6-98b2-c1913f9d9620 Here's what we shot - here's the course of fire: @Shadow, did you sign up and shoot this match? For the record, I'm highly impressed with my 16" precision gun - it got it done, once I got my shiit together and got that BDC going. That gun rocks, and I'll shoot it again in these matches. Ballistic Advantage 16" SPR stainless barrel rocked it - once I had it going. Click the pics of the Stage pics -keep clicking until they get bigger - they will.
  24. Did you sign up and shoot the last match, a week ago?
  25. Going back to your original question... Shooting for groups... should you (or do you) shoot at 200 or 300 yards? My magnified optics get zero'd at 100 yards. Red dots at 50 yards. Iron sights - depends on the gun/caliber/purpose. Some guns/optics setups get zero'd at 36 yards. Shooting groups? I only shoot "groups" at my zero distance. To zero the rifle or optic at it's given zero distance. An accurate gun is an accurate gun. Period. The distance doesn't matter. If it's sub-moa at 100 yards, it will still be a sub-moa gun at 1,000 yards - if your shooting fundamentals are sound. I test all my new handloads at 100 yards, to determine the best load for that gun. At greater distances, more comes into play. Range estimation is number 1. Wind reading is number 2. On a fixed-distance range, you don't have to estimate range, but you need to read wind. Out in the middle of the desert, you need to be able to estimate range and read wind. Or, you'll just suck. Or, you'll learn fast. So, my answer is simple - I don't care about groups at any range greater than my zero distance for the optic I'm using. If my gun is accurate, and I can estimate range, read wind, and know how to run my scope - then I will hit my intended target. If I miss, it's because I didn't pay enough attention to one of those things.
