How long have you had the upper setup? Just the Gibbz stuff? They might have it all worked out now - this could be good news.

Part 2. There is ALOT of prep in this. @Matt.Cross needs major credit, and so does @JBMatt. There are always ideas, all year long, on how to set it up and make it work, things to try, things to do... When @Matt.Cross comes out for the Spring Shoots, we've already been talking about new things to do since the last fall meet - and we try them. If they work, they get put into the fall stuff. If they don't work, we try to refine them to get them to work... @JBMatt... I shoot with him All. The. Time. During this time of the year, it's at least twice a month, or more. We're always doing things. Matt is always building things... That barricade was 100% him, all the way. Alot of the shooting scenarios are what he comes up with, and we try to make it interesting, or at least valuable (if it's not interesting... ). No kidding, he busts his ass prior to these shoots, on all kinds of things that aren't readily seen... Kelly, and the cheesecake... Holy SHIITTT!!! And the "tacos..." We'll make him a permanent fixture, and not so we just use him for food... That is one hell of a great person -AND he can cook things that will blow your mind... I'll think of more - but just know... You are all very much appreciated, respected, and loved.

I want to thank everyone that makes this trip. There's alot of personal sacrifice by every single person that comes out here to shoot with an idiot in the desert, and I appreciate you all more than you can imagine. There's the sacrifice of vacation time from work, the money it costs to get here, your own recovery time to unfuq all your stuff that's packed and used whilst here in the dirt... Even @JBMatt, @blue109 and @MikedaddyH have to go through alot, just in those things. @Cunuckgaucho, @sketch and @Magwa packed and drove through snow at the start (and probably finish) all the way down the country for this. @Armed Eye Docand Susan put in 2232 miles overall roundtrip to do this. @shooterrex and his roundtrip... And I know for those three groups, just the sacrifice of gas money is HUGE right now. For @Matt.Cross and @Rsquared, there's the cost of plane tickets, AND the cost of shipping those giant-ass guncases!!!! I notice it all, recognize it, and appreciate it all - just to hang out with an idiot in the desert... @DNP, with his turn-and-burn overnight trip here - that's a prime example. However, he and I are coming up on 20 years of weekend runs just like that, just to ride some sand... Every year, people ask what they can do, how they can help. You all do enough, just to get here and stay here and return to your casa, in every way. I do what I can on the other side. Gather t-posts, stock up on food throughout the time between shoots, make sure propane tanks are filled, etc - you guys shouldn't have to come out here and worry about food, gear, all that. I try my best to hold that side of it up - it's only fair, on my part. Getting @Magwa and @unforgiven down here for first visits was a huge milestone. I can't believe you guys - meeting you both finally - unreal. I'll have a part 2 coming up, Gotta help Rex load up. He's pulling out this morning... back in awhile...

We do indeed have some new people in "The Mile Long Club" after this event. Let's list them all, and what gun/cartridge got them there... I tried on the Barret .50 and Nick's 300 PRC, and couldn't get it, but I smacked that bastard on my 300 Win Mag. I know @JBMatt got it with his 300 Win Mag, and something else. @Magwa got it with his 6.5 x 284. There are some others, but I'm not sure what they were shooting, and don't want to mess it up.

I get around this by not baking the glass. I still used the Cerakote H-Series, I just let it air cure. It gets a 3-minute quick flash in the oven, just to set it, but I don't let it do a full oven-cure. The only reason for that it not baking o-rings and other seals that might be throughout the scope, turrets, etc. For the record, I've done a full bake on an EOTech 512 - twice. That thing is still alive...

Any of that steel-cased ammo lacquer coated? If so, that stuff will gum up your chamber.

"My phone fell in my butt..." "That's a great place to keep it, and I know why you keep it on vibrate..."

Forgot this one... "...It was my own fukkin' fault..." combined with, "Thanks to you, I'M THAT GUY..."

Ho-Lee-SHEEEIIIITTT!!! Fall Shoot 2022 is behind us - well kinda. Still a house full of brothers here right now. We went out on Thursday, and came back this afternoon. Just got back from dinner. Memorable quotes: "I was in the drunk..." "DANCE MONKEY DANCE!!!" - immediately followed by "DON'T LOOK AT ME!!!" "You shouldn't give an Indian liquor..." ""We need to build a trebuchet..." - there's alot more to that involved, including launching shitters, and a sack of grizzly bears... Rene on the .50 BMG - "Hahahaaaaa... That was a motherfukker..." There's alot more, with tons of pics, so brace yourselves...

Modern technology, and smart people, have changed some of that, with National Match carry handle assemblies. Those aren't common parts, though, and you'll pay for them. Finer thread pitch for finer asjustment - but you still can't change the total travel of that sight, with that big screw-jack hanging off the bottom of it, on a detachable handle. Here's an example: Standard: National Match: sight Here's the article that came from: https://thenewrifleman.com/the-anatomy-of-a-national-match-sight/ I've got a National Match carry handle setup on a dedicated gun. Rock River Arms, 1/4 MOA clicks, 0.040" hooded sight aperature. It's pretty badass, and scary how accurate you can get it, just with iron sights. Furthest I've taken it is 500 yards. Had to wait forever for that thing to get to me, once I ordered it. Fulton Armory has all kinds of parts, to covert standard carry handles to National Match guts - but it ain't cheap.

I first noticed on the issued M4A1, with carry handle, circa 1995. Everything looked like the A2 setup I'd had in the past. Elevation drum only went to 600, not 800. Went to my unit (civilian contract badass) Armorer and asked "WTF is this? They mess it up?" He explained it all to me. Flat-tops don't have enough travel downward to sink that rear sight base, because they're flat-tops. Different rear sight setups, due to that. Here's the parts for the true A2 (non-detachable carry handle)- you can see how long that thing is: That sucker sinks into the upper receiver, which is milled for it: You can see where you wouldn't have that kind of travel with a detachable carry handle: Anyway, that's the "why" about it all.

Amazing documentation, and story - your roadies are always epic! Very well done, all the way around. Just beautiful.

That scope is an Airsofter's Wet Dream, right there... DO NOT buy that for a real firearm. Go see what Primary Arms has to offer, if you want some cheap(er) prices, but need some quality that won't let you down. And still have a warranty on it.

Speaking about M16s here, where that A2 and A3 only matters, for carry handles... The A2 carry handle rear sight had an adjustable rear elevation aperature for 800 yards. The A3 (detachable) carry handle rear sight had an adjustable rear elevation aperature for 600 yards. That's ONLY because you could dial for 800 yards when it was part of the upper receiver, but as soon as you made it detachable - and had a flat-top picatinny rail - you lost the depth to do that. 600 was the max, with a flat-top upper. A2 rear sight elevation wheels went down into the upper, far below what you could do to a flat-top upper. Hope that makes sense. If not, search out drawings and specs on the two differences.
