Small story time. I have to type it out, because I have no voice (worth a damn) right now... Thursday, we got out there with sunlight, and started setting up. Patrol Base Priorities of Work were : get the 450 set, get something else set, get the firepit dug out. Loosely organize the location of the firing line. Done, done, done, and done. And somehow, @MikedaddyH puts his car and tent about 25 yards in front of the firing line, way right. Nobody felt good about that, so we kinda had to talk to him, and show him other places that were equally as awesome as the prime terrain that he selected... We busted a few caps, but by that time, it was already dark. The easy setup was to just drag the .260 Rem out there, dial 2.3 mils for the 450, and cold bore smack that thing. Put one round in the magazine, and took alot of shiit for it, too. Turns out, that was all that was needed. @jrtmasp did the exact same thing, single-round mag, and he hit it, too. Well, Jay was the 3rd shooter. See, the 2nd shooter was Greg. He wanted 1 round, got one round, and I don't know what happened, but... Jay followed him and hit it, so I know it's not the gun... Okay, the original goal was to get @Moon Boots on a shooting mat with her 5.56 rifle, and show these guys where that oxy tank was at 609 yards - before we lost sunlight. It went kinda long on the initial arrival, and we lost sunlight. SO!... She grabbed that rifle, a whole mag, got prone, and hit the 450. Every single followup shot, too. BANG! TING! over and over, until she was outta quarters... Rob, Greg and Jay were just looking at me, like... I told you guys that she has some pretty serious solid fundamentals... Dialed her own scope, too. Friday was a good day, and great night, with all the other locals making it to camp, setting up, and just having fun. I threw a leg over DirtBike Tommy's KTM bike on Friday - and I couldn't stay off the thing all damn weekend. That bike is straight up a Dirt Weapon. Saturday morning, right at sunrise, I hear "Pffft..." I already know that's @JBMatt getting after the 1-mile target. I get my ass outta bed, and go out there and check out progress. He was after it EARLY. There was direct sunlight on the target, but shade about half way there - the sun hadn't even crested the mounting to our east yet. That half-sun, half-shade made for some very effed up wind changes, just due to the BOB (Big Orange Ball) heating up the ground out there. It wasn't long before it did make it over the mountain, and we had direct sunlight on the ground all the way from shooting position, to the 1760. Figured I better find the gun case that housed my Win Mag, then find the ammo can with it's ammo, and get 10 rounds ready to go up there. Once the table cleared, I got my gun set up, loaded one mag, settled, and made a shot. Matt was on the spotting scope, and Tommy was on binos. My rifle settled, and I was pissed - couldn't even see any dirt kicked up. Asked those guys if they saw any dirt splash, and... Tommy says, "You just hit that thing..." Matt looks and says, "You gotta get up and see this through the spotting scope..." Sure enough, elevation was perfect, midway up and down on the plate, and the impact was about 3" left - perfect for the top of a liver... It was the only time I shot my Win Mag the whole weekend. 1 round, I'm out. I didn't even want to take another shot with it. Instead, I was blown away. I had a (loud) little mini-personal-celebration right there by the gun. I couldn't believe it. I switched and spotted for @JBMatt after that, and he hit that bastard 4 shots in a row. Jay, Rob and Greg all went up there. I know Jay smacked that thing a few times. I'm pretty sure he hit it first-round, then missed one, then hit again. I'll let these guys tell you about it. Unreal weekend with good people. There's more coming, too.

I don't know what happened to me... On a scale of 1 to 10, I can find 11 easily. FML if I didn't stumble right onto 12 on Saturday night... My voice still isn't back yet...

I want to start this off, as a Veteran myself - it's not me, not about me. Never was, and never will be. I did my time, pulled 21.5 years, and did some crazy shiit in my time. I got paid to do alot of things that "adventurous people" - Civilian people - pay alot of money to do. Skiiing, kayaking, driving small high-horsepower boats, sky-diving, scuba diving, general fucking around with expensive toys, or just blowing 25k rounds of ammo in a weekend. Or blowing $3m in munitions starting the 2nd week of Sep, because the new fiscal years starts 1 Oct. And that stuff "needs to be gone or we won't get it next year..." Here's where this goes... It's not me. Nothing about that. It's the ones I learned from, that taught me how to handle that. MY senior NCOs that beat the fuk out of me as a young smartass. Those that HEMMED MY AS UP QUICK for the smallest mistakes. Those that guided me through hard times, and difficult decisions. Those that lifted me up, when I fucked up, and luckily, I didn't get anybody killed... Veteran's Day is for my heroes - the ones that guided me, moved me, changed me, militarily. I've luckily pulled off some pretty spectacular shiit in my life, but it's not because of me - it's because of my trainers, that formed me, trained me, were hard on me, dogged me, SMOKED ME, ... and then taught me what that was all about. They're my heroes - I'm lucky that I didn't fuk up the lessons that they beat into me, way back when, and I'm lucky I recalled it when needed, and pulled it off. Pure luck. Beatings, back then, were required. On this Veteran's Day, I pay humble homage to those that were above me, and taught me to do the right thing. I hope theres some younger fucker out there, that's saying the same thing about me, after I beat him up for small mistakes in training, so he didn't make large mistakes in combat. God Bless every Vet out there. No matter what their job was, service branch was, or what they did. They did it for this country.

I only have to toss mine when the primer pockets get loose. That's the only reason I stop using brass. I don't have any other issues with my brass, like case head separation or split necks. It's just because of the way I do my loading. This is exactly what I do on guns that I only have one of. The .300Win Mag, .260 Rem, .338 Fed, 25/45 Sharps, etc. I put the case in the shell holder, run the ram up, and screw the die down until it touches the case firmly. Almost no bump. Doesn't need it - it's already chamber-sized.

So, here we go, Part 2... I got there and picked up @Moon Boots, we packed the car, and she asks "Can I mix a drink before we go?" Oh, hell yeah you can girl. Get after it already. We drive. So, here's me in the old-skool car, 2001 Mitsu Eplipse, no blue-tooth... but I have the factory CD deck. But she's got an old-stock of old CDs. Perfect.... That turned into something else on the road trip, and it was total hilarity the entire time, never knowing what song was coming up next... 1/2 way through the trip out there , she asks if it's okay if she mixes another drink. My response was simple - "Hell yeah girl, I encourage it.... better to meet my crazy-ass friends if you're comfortable." She was nervous meeting these new people, initially. That faded immediately, upon arrival, as soon as she was mobbed when we got out of the car. I really wanted to feel bad about that, but I could only laugh. My ass off. You killed it, chica... Just being you...

You, and I mean this deep in my heart brother... are missed. For this year's shoot, you are the glue that was bringing @sketch and @Magwa down this time. You are all missed. Believe me, we will raise a toast specifically to you guys, and get the evidence in here.
-
Bro, here's the shortcut...
-
You still have a box, brother, I'll get photographic evidence of it... I need to just move it upstairs already, into that ammo-closet, but last time I tried it, the bottom broke out. So I put it back down, right then. I need to brave this task, and tape that heavy fucker, and just do it...

It's okay - Mikey will never find this and trigger it into another tractor-porn thread... -

I somehow manage to pull that off, spectacularly... Then again, I'm 10-feet tall, 3 rows of teeth and 2 coats of hair, and I'M BULLETPROOF!!! -
You are missed around these parts here, Pat. Hope you're doing well, brother. Get your ass back in here already...

AR-10 platform - what other calibers can be built????
98Z5V replied to N5XES's topic in General Discussion
^^^ Legit answer... That's my next Large Frame AR, right there, too... Because that's the one I'm missing, based on the .308 Win parent case... I honestly don't think I can build any Large Frame AR that will smoke my .260 Rem gun. That thing is ridiculous...
