I missed this whole topic due to not being here recently, but I'll give my initial $0.02 on home defense. You need to be proficient enough to shoot the center of a doorway, in a real home defense situation. Nobody but HULK himself comes through walls, anymore - all assailants have to come through a doorway, to get to you. No matter what you shoot - doesn't matter - if you can proficiently shoot into the space that encompasses the center of a doorway, proficiently, then you can defend yourself in your home. Last defense, you will defeat those that have to come through that doorway to get to you... You're asleep when this happens - the most important room in your house to practice this on - is your own bedroom... It'll be gross motor skills, at the point this happens - you won't accomplish any sophisticated weapons-manipulation dream, when you get up in the middle of the night, from something like this - you will resort to your lowest level of training, lizard-brain, just what you know and practiced. If you have no training, or haven't trained, you will fail. Caliber, gauge, distance... doesn't matter. I bet your bedroom door isn't more than 14 feet from your bed, and that would be in a GIANT house with a giant main bedroom...

Pretty freaky, isn't it Todd? I didn't know about this until this summer, when I had to do a deep dive into myself, to figure ME out. It hit me right away, and explains alot about my actions and reaction, my entire life, from teen to now... Wasn't easy to figure out, and wasn't fun to figure out, either. Painful process... Good luck to you. Your M14s and M1As are not the same as AR gas guns with direct impingement operating systems. You might state "Neck tension" and things like that, but that's bolt gun theory, not gas gun theory. You've been lucky thus far - I hope you're still lucky in your future, with all your AR gas guns, and not crimping. Despite your 60 years of reloading. You haven't been reloading AR gas-gun-only for 60 years, I'm certain. That's just not your thing. To everyone else reading this - if you're handloading for AR gas guns, CRIMP your loads to avoid bullet setback, and pressure spikes when they DO setback because they didn't have a crimp on them. "Neck tension" isn't enough - that's bolt gun shiit.

I stick with 0.750" journals anytime I can, unless I MUST go up in journal size, just for a gas port that's needed. Increase journal diameter, decrease gas port diameter. I'll get more into it later...

Shiit starts getting tricky when you're messing around with 16" Rifle Gas - there's not alot of dwell time to play around with... Here's a 22 ARC in that config... 12.5" Midlength Gas is the exact same rodeo - another 22 ARC with 0.750" journal...

That's an impressive amount of research that you did, just to make that post, and I commend you. I'll get my opinion in here either tomorrow or Friday, depending on the time I have. I'll give you the exact port diameter that you'll need for either gas block journal size, man. I base all my 6.5 Creed suggestions from my two 20" Rifle Gas 0.750 journal .260 Rem guns. Same bullet diameter, same exact gas needed. Great job on your recoil system - that's exactly what you need.

I haven't yet, but I'll definitely make it a point to get a pound for testing.

Ballistic Advantage just dropped a 16" RIFLE gas 22 ARC barrel, SPR profile, 0.750" gas block journal. Gas port measures 0.096". This thing is gonna rock... It's already a complete upper.

I would HIGHLY SUGGEST crimping any ammo that you have that goes through an AR Gas Gun, no matter what anyone else "states as fact" anywhere. Loaded up a 100 round drum of 5.56 to run in a bump-stock gun, and it jammed up pretty good - ALL the next rounds that were coming up that feed are were setback in the brass. The owner of the gun didn't crimp them. I'm glad the gun jammed. Those setbacks could have been really, really bad, really, really fast... Crimp your loads if they're going through an AR Gas Gun. NF1E - your practices will catch up with you sometime, and I hope it works out well, and healthy, with no long-term damage.

They cut the shiit out of an AR-10 type lower, to make a DPMS type upper fit. That's just pure ignorance. My $0.02.

Separate them off to the side, for the crimping process, and reset your crimp die just for them - get the right crimp on them. They'll stretch, with firing. They'll end up the same size/length as the rest, pretty quick. Couple of firings. Just don't run them with the rest of the brass, through the crimper, or they'll have a very light (if at all) crimp on them. Not good, light crimps on a semi-auto. My $0.02.

The gun details, and everything about it -just like we have to "interrogate" everyone all the time, about their certain situation... You know the drill by now. You ain't new. Get rid of the crush washer, first, and buy some AccuWashers and remount the suppressor host. The crush washer has it on their sideways, because it didn't crush straight. The guy nails it, and we've preached it for years. 5.56 NATO is hotter than .223 Rem. Keep in mind, like stated earlier. The big ones are the opposite. Like stated earlier. Check it.

^^^ Good point. Neil, how was the suppressor host installed on the barrel? Crush washer? Shims? If it was crush washer, get rid of that thing, and used some 5/8 AccuWashers to mount the suppressor host.
