It's more than just a buffer and spring. They don't machine the receiver extensions correctly Ifor carbine recoil systems), so to solve this they have reliefs built into the lower receiver forging, so you can't tell if your BCG is slamming into your lower receiver on recoil. Their uppers and lowers are proprietary, so that's a show stopper if your friend ever wanted to build another caliber upper to mate to that lower. There's an entire list of issues with these guns, over years, and a whole section on the issues and fixes, right here on the board. It's under-recoil (carbine setups) so bad that they are including the adjustable gas block on them now. The cheap recoil system that they put on there is on purpose, to save money, so the logical other shortcut is to under-size the gas port for that reason. The too-short gas tubes are because they are lazy, and just stick AR15 gas tubes in them. All in all, it's not a bargain, because you need to spend time and money diagnosing the issues, find out solutions, and either buy more parts, send it out for gunsmith work, or figure it out on your own. It's more than just a couple different parts here and there - it's time, money, ammo, patience, and finding the solutions and getting them done. Street price on an Armalite DEF10 rifle is about $1k. It'll work right out of the box, with a correct recoil system and gas system. That's another $250 over what that PSA lists for, but what is your time in research and failed testing, money for future parts and shipping to fix this thing, and ammo worth? Check out the PSA section here...

Ever since I watched this vid, I've wanted to shoot one of these. You made it clear @BigNate. It's all that, and the bag of chips. How this thing rips through 3 full-size gel blocks, I'll never know, but that's why it just laughed at 3 of the 1gal water jugs, and the 2.5gal jug turned longwise... Love this vid on this caliber. Skip to 10 mins even to see it rip all 3 gel block, straight through, and it's not even a thing...

Great point, Rex - I forgot that they can't get the gas tube length right, either.

So, I got in on the Shaw 12.5" heavy barrel right away, at $164. It's a pre-order, and it's still in a pre-order status, but the price has gone up to $203 now... Lesson 65b. You Snooze, You Lose. If you guys are gonna get into any of their barrels for this caliber, do it before the prices go up again, I'm just sayin'... https://www.shawcustombarrels.com/shop/product/22-arc-12.5-1-7-twist-hbar-contour-no-flute/532

Everyone and their brother that manufactures an AR15 has the Colt TDP to follow. You can't fuk up an AR15 too bad, the plans have been outed for decades upon decades. These big ones are a different animal. No pattern to follow, and PSA definitely doesn't follow any of the 3 common patterns that are out there, that generally work. 18" midlength barrel - the gas port diameter IS gonna be wrong, and need to be drilled out. The entire recoil system IS going to need to be replaced. Your buddy needs to know that going into it, and plan that extra money into that "great price". Who really knows what the "blem" actually is - will it be cosmetic, or functional? There might be more money involved in making that thing run, besides paying someone to punch the gas port and buying a complete recoil system.

^^^ I see what you did there...

@blue109 got me fired up on the InstaPot, so I bought the great one, the $$$ one. It's a pretty badass device, and I wouldn't get rid of it for the world. Thank you, brother!!!

You guys know I'm just a Crock Pot Whore, and love cooking in the things. I grill in the summer, just to not heat the damn house up inside. In the winter, I'm all about some crock pot goodness. I stumbled on this tonight, trolling around vids to watch, and this is really good. There's 6 of them in this vid, and I'll run through all six recipes over the next 6 or 8 weekends, just to try them all out. I'd say I'd cook on each weekend, and eat it all week, but I know I have some weekends that I'll be busy, and don't get it done on that weekend. Maybe, that will be a Monday-night cook night instead. I'll try to knock them all out one after the other, we'll see. Check it out, and enjoy...

That's awesome, brother - I love your adventures.

Washington State. McNeil Island Prison. Kinda like Alcatraz, in a way, buried in Puget Sound. Surface temp of the water in Puget Sound is 52~54*, year round. That's ice-cream headache shiit, when you stick your head underwater in that, tell you now. Dove it enough, swam it enough, I know. Just getting INTO the water in the Sound is a bad experience, all by itself, let alone, staying in it, on purpose. 8mm full wetsuit, minimum, or it just sucks. Swam from Solo Point to Ketron Island numerous times, in just Farmer Johns and fins, though, a pile of times. That's nothing but massive manpower and nut-shrinakge, right there. Just do it. Many moons ago, when I was stationed at Ft Lewis, for some reason, state authorities wanted to test how badass McNeil Island defenses were. So, task order given, mission set acknowledged... McNeil Island Prison was broken into... There used to be news articles about this - those have been scrubbed. I'll find one, guaranteed.

This is wild. I love watching things like this. Alcatraz. I have another post coming up after this one...

Always carry a shotgun...

Dion, @dpete - I'm gonna have to convert full walls in the entire house to pull this one off...

They sleep at night. Which makes me safe, at night, from those Miniature Velociraptor Motherfuckers. Once the sun goes down, I only need to worry about the scavenger coyotes, the demonic chupacabras, and thos cute little desert foxes that want to eat my leftovers, and never attack. Yet.

What do you have on order or in the mail? Part 2

If it's any consolation, I have a 15# Mk12 5.56 gun. I use it in a specific match, and I stuffed a 2 3/4# lead weight into the A2 buttstock pocket, just to cease all noticeable recoil through the scope...

The UBR 2 might be the answer, even if that beast is already 14#. If it's balanced better front-to-rear, the additional weight of the UBR might not hurt that much, with it all at the back of the rifle.
-
Nope. It's a proprietary receiver extension. Nothing else on the market like it. When you remove the stock from the extension, you'll immediately see the major differences between it, and everything that you now know as a receiver extension. There's no reason that you couldn't put a UBR original body on the extension that's already inside of the UBR 2 - but there would be no reason to do it, because you ahve to buy the whole UBR 2 to get the extension. The UBR 2 extension is already 7 5/8" internal depth.

I'm not gonna run those 62s at 3300. 18"er pushing 88s around 2750 will be more like it. I'll be interested to see what the 12.5"er puts up with the 88s. With the kind of speeds I'm planning, it'll be a barrel life like running the 75s at 2750 on one of the Mk12 guns.
-
Yep, I did find it. I'll dig it back out and get it back to you. That thing seriously pissed me off...

Not nocturnal. They only scare me in the daylight...

@JBMatt, Yeah, I called Doc on New Year's Eve - out there by myself, fending off the coyotes, chupacabras, and desert foxes... All alone... I'm just sayin'...
