Is this the Matrix with the angled-cut receivers, like an AR-10, or is this the new Matrix stuff with the rounded DPMS cut?
-
Well, you've got the AR10B, Matrix Aerospace, PSA Gen 2, DPMS LR-308... I can add the Aero Precision M5 to the mix. Lemme dig one out.

"Sear Link Technology" from them. Been playing with one weekly - my Tool guy that comes by the shop weekly is also a gun-guy, and he sells KE Arms stuff right on the tool truck. It's dangerous... "Yeah, just gimme that and put it on my truck account... " The SLT let's you put it on safe when the hammer is down. It doesn't need to be cocked to put it on safe. Other than that, when firing it in the trigger jig, I don't see or feel any difference in it, from any other nice single stage trigger.

That's ingenious! That's an excellent writeup that goes with it, too, when you click the link-in-the-link...

Alot of people have no idea what the Manimal is - but I know I do, and so does @blue109... VooDoo Innovations- VDI - made the Manimal. It's a muzzle device that was smaller than 0.750" OD, and long enough that you could pin and weld it to a 14.5" barrel and make 16"+ in legal length. The beauty in it was it was smaller than 0.750" OD. You could still take your gas block off, and still take your barrel nut off. You still have freedom to change up a pinned barrel. The Manimal still exists: https://www.adamsarms.net/vdi-manimal-extended-flash-hider There's a new concept out now, too, and that's what this thread is about. VG6 released something similar, at less than 0.750" OD. But it's a brake. The Epsilon 556SL... https://aeroprecisionusa.com/vg6-epsilon-556sl.html

Receiver extension not screwed in far enough will make the BCG hit the ears on the lower. That's a receiver extension that's "too deep" in internal depth - because it's not screwed in far enough. Chewing up a buffer is only one thing. The BCG isn't pushing the buffer off the buffer retainer when you close the receivers. There's a gap in there that shouldn't be there. What can cause that? Is the upper machined wrong? Is the BCG body too short? Are the pin holes for the takedown and pivot pins that mate the upper and lower in the wrong place - on the upper or on the lower? Did the buffer retainer hole not get drilled at the angled-hole that is should be at, and get drilled straight vertical instead?... It's a machining issue, and something isn't machined right, on some component, or it wouldn't be chewing up the buffer face. That BCG isn't pushing the buffer off the retainer when the receivers close. You can inspect this and look for it, but you need a badass flashlight and some dedicated eyes.

Here's some old info on the Tubb CWS. These will be re-made soon.
-
AR15 H3 buffer (or Armalite AR-10 Carbine buffer - same exact thing, identically) and Armalite EA1095 spring. Armalite AR-10 Carbine Receiver Extension. Never a problem. Ever.
-
Only thing I can reason on it is - they didn't sell enough of them. It works, really well, for what it was truly designed to do... Add enough weight to decrease the bolt unlocking time until the rough was clear of the barrel...
-
Done deal. I'll pull a Tubb CWS this weekend, and send it to my machinist. Already talked to him about it. He said he'd get it done. I'm good with my machinist, too, so if he told me he'd crush it, then he probably will.
-
I happen to know a certain machinist that might be able to MAKE some BCG extensions - just like the now-defunct Tubb CWS, that will cure your issue... I'll reach out to him...
-
Proudly. I run nothing but Armalite AR-10 Carbine recoil systems on all my Large Frame ARs - that run collapsible stocks. I only have one Big AR that runs a rifle recoil system. The rest are all running AR-10 Carbine recoil systems. Hassle free. Works every time. That gun in that thread that I linked was the newest Grendel build. I had to get that RE right, and notch it. I've never had to do any of that nonsense with the Big AR Armalite parts. Ever.
-
And the Candy-Ass parents...
-
OP, would you kindly list all the parts used in this build, and the part details? Here's the other thread I referenced, in relation to the receiver extension needs to be screwed in one more turn:
-
Here we go... That receiver extension needs to go in another turn, and it will have to be notched to clear that buffer retainer. This just came up in another thread. That will keep the BCG from crashing into the ears on the lower receiver. Also, there is only one thing that will chew a buffer like that - when the receivers close together, the back of the BCG pushes the buffer OFF the retainer. The only time the buffer should touch the retainer,is when the receivers are open. Your BCG isn't pushing the buffer off the retainer, when the receivers are closed. Every single time that rifle recoils, the buffer retainer catches the buffer coming back forward, and chew the hell out of the face of the buffer. The force finally broke the buffer retainer - that's why it's gone. This is usually caused by out of spec receivers - either the upper or the lower. There used to be a cure for this, but it's off the market now. The Tubb CWS. When installed, if added 0.080" to the length of the BCG... thus, enough for the BCG to push the buffer off the buffer retainer when the receivers close. The Tubb CWS is out of production.

That is a sad, sad report, mley. I'm glad you shared it, and the culture of the leadership does need to change, as well as alot of other things.

I'da thought Jacob would have seen this thread already?!... I never even thought of that... Last time he was out was a Marana Shoot, with planeflyer Jon as the Range Master. I think that was 2013 or 2014...

Solved. Click it... https://getyarn.io/yarn-clip/e3c14fb9-16b1-484b-a23d-65beea9ba873 Jay and Silent Bob saved my a$s...

Common Questions, and Search Function
98Z5V replied to 98Z5V's topic in 308 AR - What You Need To Know
I'd like to see a Mod or Admin LOCK THIS thread... I don't even want to see anyone bitching about this. They need to be able to read it, and move on. -
Routinely, does it arise... Common questions come up here all the time. Routine questions. Very basic questions. This forum is FULL of valuable information. What the long-staying members here do, is very simple - they solve problems. Issues that can't be solved in other venues and places, or forums. This Large Frame AR Platform is our specialty. Many of us have been doing this since... WAY before it was popular. Many of us were here for the first iteration of the "billet craze," with the initial run of "custom manufacturers with tons of experience," - that released screwed up receiver sets. Many of us had to get into this game on a $350 or $400 DPMS "K" lower receiver, then drop another $250 on the upper receiver. Stripped... We worked through it. We either found solutions, or we abandoned bad hardware. I could name a few very prominent "bad hardware" companies, but that would just be rude. They know who they are - or who they WERE, before they went out of business. Recently - early 2018 - we've seen a rash of very basic questions that come up. It seems that most of those basic questions either come from bad information from another website/forum, or they come from a rudimentary lack of knowledge about this platform, and about the AR15 platform. The questions arise from a basic lack of fundamentals about the AR platform, in general. The bitches and complaints about the search function here usually come from people that never tried to search, here. I've even seen people blame board software for it, and nothing further from the truth, could be said. That's a basic misunderstanding on YOUR part, about the software - not the fault of the software... I'll give a few glaring example of what to do, and what NOT to do. Let's say you want to find info on a LaRue trigger. You hit the search and you type in larue trigger - notice that CLOSELY... You receive a hit on this board for everything out there on "larue" and you'll also get a hit on everything that ever mentioned "trigger." Whoa, what, there's so much shiit my head is exploding!!! The search on this site SUCKS!!! Yeah, I'm sure it sucks, when you don't know how to search for something on a forum... You didn't do it right, you didn't get what you wanted. And your head exploded. Garbage in, garbage out. That falls on YOU. Yeah. YOU did that. YOU created those search results, from your basic misunderstanding of the search function. Now, what you wanted was results on a LaRue Trigger... So, type THIS into the search box... "larue trigger" - USE THE QUOTATION MARKS AROUND WHAT YOU WANT TO FIND. You get a hit on anytime anyone on this board ever said "larue trigger..." Here's a perfect storm that went bad, very recently. Someone asked for some VERY basic information, put little to NO effort into ANY kind of research on anything involved in it, then lost their shiit on members that told them that they should search out the information - because it was everywhere here... Click it - make it bigger. The reply was simple, but turned ugly quick. This was a new guy that completely blew off the basic forum etiquette of posting an intro - which is encouraged everytime we see this. Sometimes, first-post questions aren't even answered - they're just replied with "Welcome to the forum and post an intro in the Intro Section..." It's not mandatory, but don't expect respect if you lose it on people in your reply to that... Click it again, make it bigger again... Ultimately, here's what you need to know. The Search Function isn't that damn hard here - it's quite easy, as I explained above. To prove that, I search out this guy's specific questions, and answered them with links to the information. It was a simple process - a VERY simple process - and I made this reply in a few minutes... NOT hours...
-
I'll go add it in there right now, with the very first post, and my reply...
-
Right on, brother. Get to it when you can - just make sure you measure it all out, inspect it, and determine if you need to modify that receiver extension...
-
@bfoosh006, also let PSA know that I might sound like a dikc, but it's for the better of the company. I'm harsh, gruff, whatever label that I need. Armalite doesn't have these issues on their AR-10 Carbine Recoil System.
