  1. The .338 Fed is a sweet shooting large frame AR. I finally knocked out a 16" .338 Fed not long ago. Turns out it was a 560-day build. Not acceptable...
  2. ^^^ Those are my favorite parts of the article!...
  3. Yep, you read that right... World's 1st Robocop to begin duty in Dubai http://www.foxnews.com/tech/2017/05/22/worlds-1st-robocop-to-begin-duty-in-dubai.html The “world’s first operational Robocop” started its tour of duty Sunday in Dubai – the first in the emirate’s planned robot police force, according to the Daily Mirror. The Robocop, five feet five inches tall and weighing 220 pounds, speaks six languages and reads facial expressions. “He can chat and interact, respond to public queries, shake hands and offer a military salute,” Brigadier-General Khalid Nasser Al Razzouqi, Director-General of Smart Services with the Dubai Police told the Mirror. Residents can use the Robocop to pay fines or report crimes, and it also can transmit and receive messages from police headquarters. The launch “is a significant milestone for the Emirate and a step towards realizing Dubai’s vision to be a global leader in smart cities technology adoption,” Al Razzouqi said. “With an aim to assist and help people in the malls or on the streets, the Robocop is the latest smart addition to the force and has been designed to help us fight crime, keep the city safe and improve happiness levels,” he added.
  4. The headspace should always be checked when building the large frame ARs, simply because there is no set-in-stone standard for them - companies can make whatever the hell they want, smack "AR-10" or "LR308" on their description online, and everybody thinks it'll just assemble itself and work remarkably. Definitely NOT the case out here in the real world... So, does matching the bolt (actually just checking headspace) increase any accuracy or reliability? Not really, because headspace MUST be met. Having the headspace meet the minimum and maximum dimensions decreases the chance that the gun blows up in your face when you pull the trigger for the first time. Yes, it's important. Your parts list thus far is solid, by the way. Good parts from good, reputable companies.
  5. Thunder Guns LLC just came up recently in conversation. Please read this thread - I know it doesn't help you now, but you'll know what you're looking at for trying to resolve this issue. If it's compound problems, from cheap, out-of-spec components, I'm not sure there's much that we can do to help you resolve this. EDIT - your own machining solution might be the only possible solution. It sounds like it would work...
  6. I think we've got that handled, for the time being. I hope it continues into the future, beyond the initial 4 years...
  7. I feel bad for the victims, and the families of victims. Blame has to be placed somewhere, sometime, and I think it falls on "policies." Europe has to get a handle on their refugee issue. This is going to continue until they tackle this problem.
  8. Armalite's tunable 308 competition brake.
  9. Tons of natural talent, and tons of hard work on top of that. Sad news to hear.
  10. Pin and weld.
  11. Just added up all major components. $1160.53. That number includes the Armalite 13.5" barrel, brake, and Armalite AR-10 BCG, as well as Armalite AR-10 Carbine receiver extension parts. Receivers, rail, buttstock, LaRue MBT trig... Still need to add a pistol grip, iron sights, and PA red dot. Shiit.
  12. Shiit. I think I'm building another 308... This thing right here has been out for a couple years, but I never knew it until it was mentioned in an intro thread. I don't like the buttstock, but the rest of the rifle is solid - but I can build it cheaper, and a little better, for under the $2200 MSRP of it. This sucks... I'll keep track of costs...
  13. Seems to be a trend with X-Cal gasports...
  14. Just now finished power steering pump rebuild on the Nissan. Eff that mess. $17 on the rebuild kit, $150 for a reman pump. I rebuilt it.
  15. INTRODUCING FAXON 308 PENCIL BARRELS- IN STOCK NOW! Hit this to buy 'em: http://faxonfirearms.com/barrels/ar-10-lr-308/308-winchester-7-62-nato/
  16. You can't stop everyone, from their true intentions, if that's the case. However, when you need someone - and no one is there... That's my point. Somewhere along the way, there should be someone that would have talked to you, before the act. Not everyone is 10 feet tall, two rows of teeth, three coats of hair, and bulletproof - like me. People need people, and most often, at that time of taking one's life, there's no one that they felt they could talk to. I bolded "most often" above, because there are the extreme cases out there, and there is no help, people, friends, talking, etc., that's gonna stop it. And yes - it's always those that are left behind that have to deal with that pain. I guess this is just my sensitive side - there's a point in everyone's life that you're gonna need somebody... When that time comes, and you see it, do something about it. When that time comes, and YOU need someone, make damn sure you let SOMEONE know...
  17. You might BE that person that needs to talk to him. Really. And if you're not, but you're close enough, it could do the trick. That's my perspective on it all now. Sooner or later, we will ALL need someone to talk to, when nothing else will work. For that guy ^^^, Jim - family and friends ain't working for him. That's why they're calling you, brother.
  18. It doesn't beat me up anymore. It did for awhile. No matter what, though, I will always wonder if I could have made any changes in him - I did make changes in him while I was around. After the split, I didn't think it was appropriate to talk to him, and I never reached out to him. Probably still have his old number in my phone right now, though. It's the decisions that we ALL make, that make a difference. Could I have made a positive impact? I did for awhile. Could I have changed the outcome? I'll never know...
  19. Things have to be at their worst, to contemplate something like that. It means you have no one to talk to, no one to turn to, and no one to help you - or no one that you even trust to talk to about it. Now, I think about it differently. Where were the people that were supposed to be the closest to this person? Where were the people he could turn to? Why didn't that happen, and why was nobody talking to them?... In my case, he couldn't talk to his mom. He couldn't talk to his dad. He killed himself in his grandmothers house, with her home. No talking. A few months before, he was in trouble in Phoenix, needed help, and couldn't call me for that help... Why did he feel that he couldn't call me? I was around him for almost 10 years, more than his own dad was. Since I'd already been gone for a year, I found out afterwards that there were signs. People just weren't seeing those signs...
  20. I view it differently now, after his death. I used to have the same mentality as you, prior to it, and I'd seen suicides up close and personal, prior to it. My mentality changed after he took his own life. I don't think the same way anymore, about that...
  21. Had a step-son kill himself on 1 Aug 2011. Just turned 22. Died from hanging. Didn't know where his life was going, so he ended it. SMART kid, like Rainman smart. Einstein-level smart. I don't know what was going through his mind at the decision time, but for him, he is in a better place. I wish I could have done something about it. I split from his mom a year before, and I never talked to him after I left. He kept in contact with my own mother, and called her for help once - she didn't tell me until months later. He was all the way across the country, close to me in AZ, and called her, my mom, for help. I was close to where he was. Had I kept in contact with him, maybe he would have called me for that help...
  22. I'll pick one up and try it out - can't beat the price, and USA made, no middleman. What's not to like? I damn sure don't need any more AR15s, so I'll have to build another 25-45 out of this.
  23. For sure... Cornell, David Carradine, Robin Williams...
  24. Awesome work, man - do what "can't be done." I've got a bunch of Hornady 100gr Short Jackets for M1Carbine reloading, but I bet they wouldn't feed work a damn in an AR.
  25. It's completely atmospheric, as well - it may be the same for the other weapons platforms fired, but vastly different weather conditions at the time of their firing...
