Modo Posted March 10, 2015 Author Report Posted March 10, 2015 The Winchester 150 grain managed to at least expel the round.
Modo Posted March 10, 2015 Author Report Posted March 10, 2015 The brass was coming out clean with no scratches, except for the one that failed to eject, those had opening squeezed.
Modo Posted March 10, 2015 Author Report Posted March 10, 2015 The Salt works set is pretty damn nice. The price is even better. Heres some pics. I've been wanting to go to A PLACE TO SHOOT since in can go out past 100 yards now, lol. Next time you go let me know and i'll join you.
Robocop1051 Posted March 10, 2015 Report Posted March 10, 2015 Modo, what muzzle device is that? Ferfrans?
Modo Posted March 10, 2015 Author Report Posted March 10, 2015 Yes, Its the Ferfrans. I'll do a write up on it once I get this thing dialed in. I was to focused on the cycling issue to notice what the Ferfrans was doing. I did manage to get the scope dialed in at 50 yards though. :))
Modo Posted March 10, 2015 Author Report Posted March 10, 2015 Wait, it just dawned on me. Is it possible the muzzle device is causing it to act up??
FaRKle! Posted March 10, 2015 Report Posted March 10, 2015 Wait, it just dawned on me. Is it possible the muzzle device is causing it to act up??A muzzle device shouldn't cause a gun to act under-gassed.
Modo Posted March 10, 2015 Author Report Posted March 10, 2015 I'm grasping at straws here. Waiting on my adjustable gas block and over thinking as usual.
Robocop1051 Posted March 11, 2015 Report Posted March 11, 2015 A muzzle device shouldn't cause a gun to act under-gassed. They wouldn't be the cause of the under gassed rifle, but certain devices could help if the rifle were under gassed... Like a KX3/KX5. These may be an option for the additional back pressure.
survivalshop Posted March 11, 2015 Report Posted March 11, 2015 The brass was coming out clean with no scratches, except for the one that failed to eject, those had opening squeezed. Any photo's of the brass ? Brass Base , with head stamp ? Try some 168 gr. ammo or 175 gr. just for $hits & Giggles , rifle may just need to break in .
blue109 Posted March 11, 2015 Report Posted March 11, 2015 fine looking rifle there. I really wanted one of those stocks before I swapped all my guns back to USGI-style.
Modo Posted March 11, 2015 Author Report Posted March 11, 2015 Btw, I fiddled with the barrels gas port. I put a 3/32 bit in there and it went in just fine. So I opened it up with a 7/64 bit. Figure since the new block is adjustable might as well max it out.
survivalshop Posted March 11, 2015 Report Posted March 11, 2015 If I can find the thread where we got into a bunch of gas port sizes , we would have some references , but no idea whats its under . My notes read my port on my 16" is 0.1095 " , but I'm not sure if that is right or not . I used a drill bit & don't or can't find that note on it , will keep looking .
survivalshop Posted March 11, 2015 Report Posted March 11, 2015 7/64" = .1094 I wouldn't be afraid of going to the larger hole Thats the Bit size , Damn , I thought I read the conversion some where in this thread . I just used the decimal in my notes instead of the fraction . You are sooooooo smart Robo <thumbsup>
Robocop1051 Posted March 11, 2015 Report Posted March 11, 2015 I believe the 7/64 is right between the #36 and #35. So if you have those...
Modo Posted March 11, 2015 Author Report Posted March 11, 2015 Thanks Robo, you've been a great help. Gas block is coming today and I'm going to rush home slap it on and head to the range.
Modo Posted March 15, 2015 Author Report Posted March 15, 2015 UPDATE. so opening that barrel gas port to 7/64 (0.1095) was the ticket. Kept the original gas block and it cycled 80 rounds of the ZQI 762 147 grain perfectly. Bolt held open on last round, case thrown right where should be and came out clean. I'll still install the adjustable gas block, cause the 150 grain Winchester 308 had a kick like a mule.

Great to see you got it straightened out - I'll PM you when I'm planning my next run out to "A Place To Shoot" You might look into "HeavyBuffers.com" to tame that thing down a bit. http://heavybuffers.com/ar10carbine.html Edited March 15, 2015 by guruofhotrod
AngelDeVille Posted March 16, 2015 Report Posted March 16, 2015 Good to see its sorted, I have been watching your progress. I shot about 160 rounds of the ZQI last week, i was happy with it!
Modo Posted March 16, 2015 Author Report Posted March 16, 2015 thanks guys, your help was much appreciated. I endorse the ZQI, lol. Also the Ferfrans muzzle device is awesome. With it installed it pushes the noise forward, but it would make you lose sight of your target (pushed the muzzle up something awful). With the device off, the brake worked very well but gawt damn it was loud. I like having both options.
