jhninkin Posted March 4, 2016 Report Posted March 4, 2016 I'm new to the whole ar world and i'm looking to get a rifle for hunting. Is an 18" in barrel too short for hunting. I only ask because the $300 difference between a 18 and a 22 is quite appealing.
Wolfgang1952 Posted March 4, 2016 Report Posted March 4, 2016 I run a DPMS LR308A2 carbine home build with a 16 inch barrel with no ill effects. I’ve put her out to three hundred yards with some very good groups.

I really don’t have to worry about it getting caught in the brush because it doesn’t hang off the sides.
survivalshop Posted March 4, 2016 Report Posted March 4, 2016 18" is not a bad choice , but a 16" will do as good & lighter . Quicker to bring up or swing , just a little . Both Barrels are good choices for a hunting rifle .

EngrBob Posted March 4, 2016 Report Posted March 4, 2016 There are three whitetails in my freezer that were taken this year between 150 and 225 yards with my 18" Faxon barrel. On the range it is in the kill zone at 400 yards 100% of the time as long as I don't screw up.
