Probably depends on the Magazine brand your using , some take longer then 2.8" , some don't . I'm usually around  2.795" COL . , but that may be effected by Bullet type or manufacturer.

Too short ? The Powder /Bullet may have the most effect on pressure issues on a short COL .

For me, I have always tried to stay within the factory OAL length of rounds, just due to my need to be able to use any and all ammo I have loaded in any and all guns (future and present) that I own.

No special loads for me, other than tailoring a powder charge for the guns' liking a bit more.

I value having ammo that works in all situations over having something that cannot be used in a different gun because of something like COL.
