308lrnewb
Ok, so.. Which mount to choose? Want to use the LMT 308 BUIS set. Was looking at the Leupold mark 6/trijicon vcog.. However, I am starting to consider the burris XTR II 2-10power FFP lens instead. Was looking at a few of the larue tactical QD mounts. The LMT BUIS says it is .8" tall when collapsed, approximately. I believe the actual measurement is .75", though I would rather have a bit of airgap versus contact. The Burris XTR says ~45mm of ocular lens diameter. Which, I think equates to ~1.78" across. Half this comes down to .89" This lends me to estimate that with .9" and .8" I need my lens centerline to be a rough 1.7" above the rail? Looking for a sturdy mount that quick disconnects, while being fairly low mass. Trying to keep from adding more than two pounds to rifle when mounting lens. Glass weighs in at ~1.5lbs Finally, to all of you with experience mounting glass.. What tends to be an ideal centerline height off of the flat rail, before needing a cheek riser? For an idea, am average sized American. 5ft 10. Thinking anything under two inches from my cheek bone shouldn't be bad. It feels like on the DPMS carbine and A2 sights/handle.. That is roughly 2" over the flat top. Edited July 30, 2016 by 308lrnewb

jtallen83
ADM makes a great QD mount. Height is personal preference, no hard and fast rule on it besides use what works for you. For higher magnification stuff I like a lower height, for my 1x6's I like a little more height.
308lrnewb
I got out the slide micrometer.. dpms shows 1.35" from flat top to centerline of match aperture. Top of carry handle was ~1.5" I was thinking 1.835" over the flat top would be about ideal for me. Anyone know of a mount in that range of height? The pepr mount seems... nifty, just - I was to go low mass as possible while retaining the one piece base.
308lrnewb
eh, hate to double post - who has experience with the american defense? was checking out that manufacturer's recon-h 34mm ring mount. says from top of rail to centerline of optic is 2.010". While holding slide mic over the flattop on dpms, felt decent. I like where it sat. tipping chin down some more will allow getting on the backups reasonably well i think. plus, providing ~.25" of space between the bottom of lens and folded iron sight if my mathtimations are near correct. Shame burris does not offer a more clear diagram of their dimensions. I am hoping the 2" offset will work reasonably well with this optic and the backups. would be grateful to hear more from an experienced owner of american defense mounts, or burris optics. thank you! jtallen83
American Defense Manufacturing, ADM, is top line stuff. I have several of their products and all return to zero and hold it. I bought the PEPR a few years back and had problems with it coming loose. Burris did replace it without question but the aggravation of having a failure convinced me to sell the replacement before I tried it again. 308lrnewb
Main Tube Size: 34 mm XTR II 2-10x42mm I like looks of the ADM. I was guessing that was american defense after my post. The UBR seems like most heavy buttstock minus the PRS class! Woah. I bet it IS PRS weight, when the aluminum strike pad is installed. Anyone around here using one of thos UBR's? I also like how magpul mentions on their webpage that a custom buffer and spring may be required for the 7.62nato chambered AR.

Rsquared
Noting wrong with the UBR stock. It adds a little weight, but the balance is nice. Solid as a rock. At least mine is.
308lrnewb
Playing around with the MOE rifle stock ar15, slide mic and the dpms carbine.. seems like the 2.010" centerline over flattop should not be too bad.. The UBR seems like it has a decent slop to the comb. It appears near like the MOE rifle. Thinking the ADM recon-h QD mount, burris xtr II 2-10x42 FFP and the heavy buffer 6.5oz buffer+spring combo. Can atleast buy a carbine to rifle spacer and if later I want an a2 extension tube.. swap should be relatively straightforward and offer same feel. Thank you everyone. Things seem to be coming down to funds and time. Also - has anyone seen the UBR in stock for stealth gray? I think AIMsports had it in stock, but everywhere else shows out of stock with varied standings of back-order go/no-go.. Either way, barrel first. Hoping in two or so more weeks Criterion still has more of the one I want in stock.
Cowtown
I am running the UBR on my Seekins SP10. Very solid, a little heavy maybe, but it makes the rifle with 16" barrel balance just right. It works just fine with the carbine-length buffer set up, which is what the rifle came with from Seekins. If you want to use a one-piece mount for your scope, ADM all the way. I am running three of these and they are bulletproof. Easier on your rail than Larue, and cheaper to boot. If rings are your style take a look at the Seekins rings on their website, they are well made and very solid. That same SP10 wears a honking big Swarovski Z6i 2.5-15x56 in Seekins AR high rings... solid, very solid. Height is just right.
