308lrnewb
Hello, everyone! I spoke with a few persons.. Been interested in the UBR Gen2 buttstock... still waiting for it to drop. Was told to run a H3 ar15 buffer along with the 308 rifle spring in accommodation to 3/4" longer receiver extension. This is a potential later. Lately, I have purchased my ar15 lower parts to finish out my mega. Soon, going to order the plastixrevolution 308ar block set for installing my barrel. Nearly the same price as the DPMS panther claw block. After speaking with the owner, the product seems reasonable. They are offering a 'no-nonsense' warranty. Tools fail - replaced. Justin also had time to say that if a 'tall receiver' would not fit the appropriate base tooling, he would provide the poly plates needed at no additional cost. Granted, it means waiting a few extra days to receive a second plate kit in the mail.. Current parts roster: Mega trigger + milspec fire control group and KNS gen2 pins. Criterion 18" rifle length gas SS nitride m118 chambered hybrid contour + nitride gas parts Only thing I am waiting on now, sighting system, receiver extension+buttstock and BCG. Looking at the Dwilson carrier + JP High Pressure bolt. My plans so far were to grab some fixed Troy Industry sights, a MOE rifle stock + standard A2 308 parts. Set in some grovtec limited rotation QD cups and have fun. Picked up a MS4 sling from magpul already. Who has experience with SWFA glass? I see their SWFA SS 6x mildot for ~$300. Figured, this plus some midwest industries keymod covers/hand stop, BCM keymod QD cup and seekins angled grip could address all issues on my mega MKM float tube. Give my a few options for QD locations, remain fairly light weight.. The SWFA scales in right over a pound in weight with rings. So, things are about halfway done now. This weekend I will be assembling the lower. I am currently going to run AR15 milspec hammer/disconnector springs. HOWEVER, I want to know - who is using the Wolff HEAVY HAMMER ar15 spring? I was thinking about trying the wolff XP hammer spring and reduced power disconnector spring in junction to the Mega trigger. My only thought on this, hard primers. Berdan milsurp stuff may not go boom with a standard ar15 hammer+spring. Looking forward to feedback. Things are rolling. Will be wrapped up and function testing before November. I am hoping that with the MOE stock sporting a full set of QD cups and two QD spots on the float tube it will allow easy travelling and manualing, while being more low mass. The 45raptor build is looking to begin next year.
shepp
If I'm not mistaken an ar15 lower parts kit isn't going to work, for a 308 rifle the bolt catches are different among a few other things IIRC

So, on a 308AR, the only thing you can do is run the UBR, and a Slash buffer, for reliable operation. 21 minutes ago, shepp said: If I'm not mistaken an ar15 lower parts kit isn't going to work, for a 308 rifle the bolt catches are different among a few other things IIRC Bolt catch, pivot pin, takedown pin... 308lrnewb
98, you are correct!! The ar15 buffer is 3/4" longer than the ar308 buffer when comparing carbine vs carbine. The A5 length is 3/4" longer in the extension tube. Magpul recommends a custom heavy buffer.. Clint offers the 8.5oz ar15 buffer and recommends that. I however postulate that the H3 spikes buffer and tubbs 308 rifle spring should do about the same thing as a 8.5oz buffer and standard 308 rifle coil spring. The UBR2 also comes with integrated limited rotation QD cups and is +20% lighter than the UBR1. Shepp - The lower is assembled. Mega sent it with the bolt catches installed. Actually, it was shipped nearly as a finished kit. I used the mag catch and button, some springs, safety, buffer and safety detent. That is all. Well, plus the ar15 hammer, disconnect with a mega tactical trigger. Stopped by to check in while researching which locking compound I have will work best for these parts. JSE had a grab bag of five random usefulls on sale for $6. Got two Loctite 222ms, one Loctite 271, one Vibra-Tite vc-3 and one Vibra-Tite 11102. Everything is together on the lower. Now I need to get the receiver extension and a set of receiver tools. I can already see how useful having a magazine shaped lower receiver block is. Grabbed the DPMS 20rd stamped magazine and it fit snugly in well. Catch held tightly and seemed to produce zero rattle or noticeable play. 308lrnewb
This is my mkmod knockoff build. Raptor is going to be a 14" mkm upper with 16" barrel. This is 15" mkm upper with 18" 308 barrel. Going to have multi-uppers for my multi-cal lower. It is in the summer of next year. This is first. The mega tactical trigger is 222ms locked in where I like it. I pulled bcg from the panther carbine and dropped into the mega for shits and gigs earlier. Barrel is just hand tightened currently with no gas band or tube. Still have most of the parts sitting. Life is busy. It feels a LOT better than the dpms. Fit and finish are so much more nice. I like that the mega does not have a non-functioning forward assist which looks like poop.. I swear it weighs a bit less when comparing stripped uppers and the panther has 16" barrel too. 308lrnewb
Act a fool.. say things that make others spew various rude things. Research odd tidbits. Maybe someone actually knows more than I do. It is amazing what can be done with open thinking. I am always learning. Maybe that bit there - because hardly anyone seems to get that part. Even though I dredged the A5 information from nearly ten year old posts measuring various ar15/ar308 parts. Also, again to see if someone else has run in to any issues because I am always learning. You didn't find any A5 System information from nearly 10 years ago...
