docnblue
Looking at a Monstrum Tactical 1-6x24 FFP scope for a 5.56. It has and etched reticle, is illuminated, locking turrets, zero reset 30mm tube and is 1/2 MOA. Wanted to know if anyone has used one? Looking at putting one on a patrol rifle but seems to be a fairly new scope that has come out because I haven't been able to find any reviews on it. If anyone knows anything about it please let me know.
The Father
Amazon has reviews of the scope. 77% are 4 or 5 stars

Robocop1051
A FFP scope that costs less than $200?!? Being a "patrol guy" myself, I don't know if I'd trust that glass on my rig. The benefit of the FFP over the SFP is that you can accurately measure drop at any magnification. That's not really a patrol necessity. What is the most likely engagement distance for patrol??? 40-60 yards... maybe? With a 100 yard zero you're within 2.5" of POA from 0 to 250 yards. You'd get a LOT more function out of a Primary Arms 1-6x24mm GenIII ACSS. You will never take advantage of a FFP until you get beyond 300 yards. I have a Nightforce NXS 2.5-10x on my .308 and the fact that it's SFP has never been an issue.
docnblue
Thanks for the info. Robocop1051. Everyone kept telling me "you have to get a FFP scope and just couldn't afford the high cost of one right now. Good information to know. blue109
Other things to think about....a SFP low power variable scope will most likely have the reticle (mil/BDC/etc) calibrated for max magnification...say 6x in this case and it will be the same size in 1x. In a FFP scope the reticle will "shrink" as you go down to 1x. This may make the reticle mostly useless at low power anyway. My 1-6x is either on 1x or 6x. I cant say ive ever used it in between so having the BDC accurate at all magnifications isnt necessary. The SFP BDC reticle is calibrated at 6x. If im shooting at something past 100yds im most likely going to be at 6x. If I dial it back to 1x the BDC is off, but the reticle is still large and easy to see so you can dope it as needed. I always buy FFP higher magnification scopes, but I dont really see the point for the 1-4x/1-6x optics.
shepp
I would look into somthing from primary arms for a few more bills it's worth it imo ive yet to mount mine but first impression ????
docnblue
Thanks to all that replied. Your tips and suggestions have helped me make a much more informed decision as to my choice. Primary Arms it will be! At least until I can afford something like an ACOG. Thanks again to everyone. Keep your head on the 360.
