308kiwi
Hey guys, Wife and I are coming over to your fine country 14th October through to 7th November, doing a road trip from...... Los Angeles - San Francisco - Sacramento - Salt Lake City - down through Utah to Cedar City - Las Vegas - basing ourselves in Vegas for a few days to see Hoover Dam, Death Valley and the Grand Canyon then catching a flight from Vegas to check out New York City, back to Vegas, then onto San Diego and back to LA Any suggestions on things to 'do not miss' that aren't on the usual 'tourist trail' in any of the area's I've mentioned would be appreciated. Can't tell you all how excited we both are about visiting the USA, counting down the days until we board our flight.

mineralman55
Don't judge us by what you see in San Francisco, or Los Angeles, or Las Vegas, or... Never mind.
unforgiven
Outside of Vegas is the town of Douglas. Old mining/ ghost town. Was a short drive. I was there in June. Valley of fire is bad fukin ass.
unforgiven
If you go north from Salt lake city you will enter Idaho. There is a forest that leads to Bear lake. Black sands on the beach. Water is different color because millions of years ago that and the other lakes Salt lake being one were joined together. It is beautiful...and they rent jet ski's. DNP
Not much to do in San Diego...it's pretty boring here. Worst of all the weather is terrible most of the year. Really though the touristy stuff is the way to go. All depends on what you're in to. The zoo is great, sea world is ok, beaches are decent, micro breweries all over, things like that. Depending on what days your here...you could go gamble on the ponies at Del Mar Racetrack which is about a block from the ocean in a very nice part of town. DNP
Visit Coronado, maybe go see a great football game...wait, we don't have a team anymore. Midway is a good suggestion. Edited August 29, 2017 by DNP
