Albroswift
Down at the police range shop this morning looking around before we hit the range, noticed a couple of pistol braced ARs. First one, adjustable, Gear Head brace, real similar to a carbine type buffer tube but notches in the side of the guide rail instead of round recesses, talking to the officer behind the counter his comment was "can't use a carbine tube with a pistol brace" I pointed to one of the other pistols with the SBA3 brace on it, wow, right there, AR pistols with carbine buffer tubes. Didn't rub it in or anything, (good group of guys down there) but if I had the same conversation with the same officer in, say, a different situation, (one where there wasn't a SBA3 hanging on the wall and I had an ar pistol in my car situation) I would have been screwed. It would have been the " prevailed in the end but screwed in the mean time" kind of screwed, but still screwed. Unfortunate the LEOs around here aren't up on the regs, but I'll bet that's the norm not the exception. Probably same with Fish and Game. Anyway, liked the look of the Gear Head, hadn't seen one up close before.
jtallen83
I love that SBA3 brace, I keep the ATF letters with me just like my tax stamps, stash miniature copies all over, glove box, gun case, gun safe, etc. "Officer, I have a copy of the ATF approval letter right here.............." https://www.sb-tactical.com/resource-category/atf-letter/
98Z5V
Local cops are not BATFE agents, and cannot make determinations on BATFE guidance/rules/decisions/etc. Local cops have no business trying to play "ATF." It's not their job, and it's not their jurisdiction. It's over their heads, literally. Unless you commit a crime with a weapon that a local cop has to respond to - it's not their business. Even at that point, had you committed a crime with a weapon that was in doubt, it's not a local LEOs determination to make - he must contact BATFE, and request that they get involved and make their BATFE determination. Local LEOs don't have any authority or responsibility, to determine what is legal and what is not, in regards to BATFE guidance/rules/decisions. They have a responsibility to report to BATFE, if they "suspect" a weapon, but it ends there. They CAN take it/hold it, in that interim, if they really suspect it was used in committing a crime. They can't do shiit on a gun range, if YOU are not committing a crime on the gun range... I told one that, onetime. Straight to him. I shot on a range in a very small town, and there were 4 known BATFE guys in the area - and I'd shot with them before and knew who they were. One of them happened to be on the range that day, when I was shooting a particular firearm, and I was approached and challenged on that gun by a local LEO. I simply told him that I was using it in a legal manner, not committing any crimes with it, and it was none of his fucking business. I didn't mince words, and said it just like that, too. He didn't like that, tried to flex badge-power and threaten me - and my savior appeared, out of nowhere... one of the "local BATFE" guys that recognized me. He pulled mister young LEO officer off to the side, and it was over. I'm sure the young man received an education - I was informed of what was said to him, afterwards. He woke up that day. I hope it stuck with him, and stays with him for the rest of his career.
Cunuckgaucho
Be interested in seeing/ trying pistol brace, we don't have SBR classification up here so an AR( or any rifle) is still a rifle but requires you have a restricted class licence. All ARs are restricted class by name ( but not all AR like rifles, my Stag10 is non restricted) or any centrefire semi auto rifle. So short barreled pump shotgun are non restricted. We also suffer the issue of uninformed police making bad decisions. If everyone is reasonable( gun owner and police) it can usually be solved thanks to the internet. Albroswift
Its funny looking up and down the line on our pistol range how many AR pistol's are being shouldered/ cheek welded, half of them are LEO. So some of them are educated at least. Last week a guy had an AR15 pistol 9" barrel or so, bipod and optic, loud ass brake, shooting on the rifle line, started talking to him about it, said he bought it complete at the range office. Brings new meaning to "Support Your Local Sheriff"!
