The weekend before a match, accidentally, I decided that I needed to hump something up into the hills, and put that 12" gong up there at 712 yards. Just how it worked out. Went up there, found a great spot, planted it. Lasered camp from up there, re-lasered it once I was down. The yardage was what it was. The very next weekend at the match, we had a 710-yard target... Firing up the Little ARC this Sunday, shooting with @JBMatt. My load is too fucking hot, and I know it, and it'll kill brass fast. The brass is new, so I'm not changing the load yet - I'll shoot this December match with it first, then get into taming it down a little. Details, load data, and speeds coming up after this Sunday... 98Z5V Posted yesterday at 02:10 AM Author Report Share Posted yesterday at 02:10 AM Been awhile since I've updated this little beast, and I'll be honest... So many projects, so little time, prioritization of new projects, buying new shiit to shoot, changing scopes on competition guns, changing BARRELS and CALIBERS on competition guns, etc... Sometimes, things get lost in the clutter, and pushed aside "for right now..." This past weekend I was up in Kingman at Parabellum range, for a purpose. A job interview, of sorts. I'll tell the full story later, but it was a full-on success, in two different aspects. I was teaching a Precision Rifle class for 3 people, for a future project. I'd been told a couple months ago that one of the guys was seriously interested in 6 ARC, and was asked if I could talk about that. Um, yep I certainly can, and I'll bring 3 different configurations, and the ammo, and the dope for them. For this specific person, I showed the downrange differences in the 18" and the 16", both LaRue guns. Very little difference, besides a slight muzzle velocity and ft/lbs of energy difference. Maybe another 1/10th click on the 16 over the 18, etc. He shot the 18 while I was on another bench shooting the 16. Asked him if he wanted to shoot the 16, and he said no, he sees the difference. Turned him loose on the 12.5" beast... We were shooting the Known Distance bay, 300 to 1k yards, every hundred yards. Gave him the dope chart, and told him to skip 300 and 400, just start on 500. First round impact at 5 and 6, second round impact at 7. We skipped 800 because of the berm and brush - nakes spotting short shots pretty hard because of the brush in front of the target. Went to 900 - first round impact. Now, keep in mind, all morning we've had a consistant 7~9mph wind from the left. He'd already been through 60 rounds on the 18" gun, so he was on with the wind we had. Went to 1,000 yards. I gave him a 15 round mag. He hit the 1k, after 5 or 6 shots. Gave most of the mag back. 12.5" 6 ARC at 1,000 yards is proven. I didn't shoot it, but it doesn't matter. It was better seeing him shoot it, since I haven't dedicated the time to get this done. It's been done. The dope was on for the gun. And the gun runs. Yes, men - you can run a 12.5" 6 ARC to 1,000 yards accurately.
