bamalink51 Posted December 12, 2011 Report Posted December 12, 2011 Im new at this so forgive me. Is there a difference in a fluted barrel and a heavy bill barrel when it comes to accuracy? Also any thoughts on the dpms sass barrel? Are they any good? Thanks

Keep in mind the sass barrel from dpms is a heavy barrel in terms of weight, where a fluted barrel is much lighter. If I were to build right now it would be an 18" dmr. Krieger or Lothar Walther barrel.

Before you know it, you'll be spinning that rifle like a drumstick between your fingers!Jon
hobbesgunner Posted December 12, 2011 Report Posted December 12, 2011 The SASS is a bull barrel that's fluted....not cosmetic fluting..deep fluted to take extra weight out and for cooling....Wouldn't dismiss it over the gas block issue.....DPMS didn't make the barrel huge under the handguard just to sell you a proprietary gas block

I think DPMS would make every thing proprietary if the could get away with it , just look at what they did to there upper receiver rail height . I know there is probably other reasons they did it ,but that one sticks out more .As he said though , its just a gas block ,if that's the barrel you want , go for it , it gets good reports.

Looks?[/quoteAs far as goals I would like to be shooting 600+ yards eventually. Yeah I kind of figured they were going to be heavy. As far as looks I'm going for maybe the m110/sr25 clone look.
