NightStalker Posted June 7, 2022 Report Posted June 7, 2022 I’m looking for suggestions on a cheap 30 cal action rod. i spent most of my Gun funds on parts for this build so short on funds for tools at this point
98Z5V Posted June 7, 2022 Report Posted June 7, 2022 Brownell's. They make a good one that's right on par with a Geissele Reaction Rod.

NightStalker Posted June 8, 2022 Author Report Posted June 8, 2022 Ended up getting a wheeler at a good price.
Czgunner Posted June 9, 2022 Report Posted June 9, 2022 I've used several. My favorite is the Midwest Industries.
NightStalker Posted June 9, 2022 Author Report Posted June 9, 2022 This is the first action rod I’ve tried, I still use the old military style fixtures for my AR builds but this 308 is to big for it
Albroswift Posted June 9, 2022 Report Posted June 9, 2022 I tried the brownells that works backwards, clamp the barrel wrench in the vise and use a torque wrench on the action rod. works for both small and large frame. I like the idea of being concentric with the torque. Jury is still out about clamping the wrench in the vise and standing frame/ barrel on end. https://www.brownells.com/gunsmith-tools-supplies/rifle-tools/barrel-tools/308-ar-barrel-extension-torque-tools-prod72374.aspx

Not sure I’d like the backwards set up, sounds awkward from what I’m use to
Albroswift Posted June 10, 2022 Report Posted June 10, 2022 Does sound awkward. Used it once worked pretty good. Torque wrench centers on the bore, like that part. $39.00, like that part also. Didn't try a muzzle device yet but be the same idea. Funny thing, link says 308 but I'm sure I used mine on small frame. Have to dig it out and look again.
StarWolf Posted January 29, 2023 Report Posted January 29, 2023 The barrel extensions are not the same size. The ends on the AR-15 sized one is different from the .308 one. At least that's the case for the MI URRs and the GRRs.

That would be nice but who knows
NightStalker Posted January 31, 2023 Author Report Posted January 31, 2023 Geissele makes good stuff for sure 9 hours ago, 98Z5V said: This is still the king...

Knights makes a dual spline version I saw at Midway last evening, $100 and out of stock no backorder: https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1022862662?pid=437619
