Team Helotes
I am putting together a DPMS BCG for my new build. How tight do I tighten the screws before pinging them in place?

Robocop1051
I've always bought my BCG's complete. How do you pin the screws? I assume either a hammer and punch or maybe an arbor press. Pinning seems so permanent, why not weld?

survivalshop
The screws are staked in place . The old method was three punch marks around the screw heads ,evenly spaced . The new method is on the out side of the screw head forcing carrier material against the screw head .There is a hand press out there some where that uses a vice like fixture to do this . I still use some kind of punch. Some use loc tite also , insted of staking .When I looked up that torque setting , I read a note next to it that read , "make sure bolt carrier is supported when staking , a bent carrier can result if not doing so ", what would some one use to stake the key screws , a sledge hammer ?AHH ,but it is an Army manual . 1968 vintage. Matt.Cross
When I got my Young Mfg bolt carrier, they told me that blue loctite and cranking it down as much as I could by hand would be plenty sufficient, they don't stake their carrier keys. I don't know how advisable that is, but they are the manufacturer, and I haven't had any problems so far.

survivalshop
MOACKS. Mother Of All Carrier Key Stakers. Seriously. http://www.m-guns.com/tools.phpThat's the one , I couldn't remember the name . My chisel tip punch works just as good & cheaper ,but that tool is nice.Ya , Young's give some good reasons for not staking them , but I still do it.
