Footnode
So I ordered a few parts about a month ago for an incoming ma-ten, and only recently did I realize the Vltor buffer tube is actually the AR10 version instead of the AR15 version. The problem is that I also ordered Slash's CAR10 buffer made for AR-15 tubes. Looking over the order form I found out it was my fault and not a packing error. DERP <laughs>Do you guys think this could cause any problems?Since the CAR10 buffer recommends a lighter spring (29 coils?), could I just use the original 36 coil spring to negate the different? The Vltor tube is only about 3 quarters of an inch longer than the AR-15 tube. Same dimensions, one is just longer.I realize this could cause FTF/Jams, but id rather not spend any more money unless necessary. <dontknow>
pdc
I wouldn't deviate from what Mega recommends. I went with the AR-10 Vltor tube myself. It works great so far. Andy buying a spring and buffer from Armalite was cheaper too. That reminds me, I need to order some more springs from them and store them away. tlcoy1911
Be careful with what you use togather. You could have BCG slaming into the treaded area of your receiver if the tube is to long for the buffer
survivalshop
Just use an AR10 buffer spring . I'm not an Armilite person ,but I think they use the same spring for both carbine & rifle , some one jump in who knows for sure .The buffers are all the same dia. , as is the ID. of the receiver extensions on AR 15's & AR 10's & DPMS type 308's. Its the OD. of the receiver extensions that come in two different sizes ,commercial & Mil spec. AR 15 springs do not mix well with the 308 's. Toiletcat
Ive heard of people putting a few quarters in the rear of their buffer tubes to prevent bolt overtravel.Seriously though just get the right tube <laughs>

Slash
Please don't use a CAR-10 buffer with the extended buffer tube. Your bolt can over-travel and the carrier key will strike the lower receiver ring. Chaos will ensue.I have milspec carbine buffer tubes in stock if you need one.
