ccwebb
Thanks Fellas!I'm no stranger to unwise investments. Funny how they're often the most fun.I'm coming to the 308 AR world from an M1A background. Great rifle but ergos just aren't as good as the AR, especially when adding optics. Plus the 308 AR has essentially the same manual of arms as my 5.56 AR so...good to go! That said I've got a lot of homework to do!
Matt.Cross
Just beware of the one called "Tom"... He will have you selling your soul for surplus rifles and midget strippers before you can blink.

ccwebb
Ha! I'll keep an eye out for this 'Tom' you speak of... ;)I've been reading up on 308 AR's and quickly realized that with no mil spec there are variations between makes. So I joined here to learn as much about my new obsession as possible...I'm going to love this forum!Well this may as good a thread as any to ask this question...I'm looking for a rifle that out of the box is:• highly reliable• reasonably accurate (not match)• uses the most common, readily available type of mags• forward assist.I considered DPMS but have read that they can have some feeding issues due to roughly finished chambers.I don't mind spending a bit more to get there without going into KAC territory.Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! Matt.Cross
Based on what you've stated, you have a lot of good options. I'd recommend that to get started, you find something like a DPMS that's already together. Shoot it and get it broke in, and then see what direction you'd like to go with a barrel, trigger, and possibly free floating handguard and gas block options. You will undoubtedly be able to do enough customization on your own at that point to feel comfortable with a build, should customizing an off the shelf rifle fail to make you happy. You don't have to pick a DPMS to start with, there are plenty of good brands to choose from too, it's just a suggestion.
