I shoot about 70/30 Brass vs steel. I'm not opposed to shooting steel, but I tend to buy brass and only shoot steel when I come across it. I have not had any issues with steel ammo in my AR15. I have a few hundred 7.62x51 with steel cases that I save for "just in case" ammo. Clean your guns and stay conscious of the ammo condition you are shooting. Replacing parts between 3k to 5k rounds is appropriate for any weapon you depend your life on.

Stay away from Herter's steel-cased .223 Rem ammo - that weakass poop won't cycle the action in an AR.  Might run fine in a bolt, dunno...  <dontknow>

when Just In case comes I will shoot whatever I can get to fit in the mag, till then I shoot brass and copper...

I'm with you on this <thumbsup> If your life is on the line I don't think your going to be to worried about barrel life just your own.
